Williamsburg’s Bedford Ave Gets Its Own Kinda Creepy Webcam: Styleblaster

From the Styleblaster website:

Since the early 2000s, Williamsburg has been a neighborhood popular with a new cultural elite, the heirs of the artists and hipsters who in years past were attracted by its location, one subway stop from Manhattan.

Now in 2012, the neighborhood is poised on the cusp of a new change as the repercussions of recent zoning changes, combined with inland condo construction, have literally paved the way for a new breed of stylish and sassy individuals. A place for the fashionable to be seen, Williamsburg’s stretch of Bedford Avenue is often described as a modern Haight-Ashbury, a cultural mecca for the Millenial generation.

To answer the changing times, we introduce Styleblaster, a realtime account of what people in Williamsburg are wearing. Unlike a typical streetstyle blog, Styleblaster documents all — the visiting fashion plates, the hipsters and have-nots, the native Polish and Italian proud who have for years called this neighborhood home. And above all — the dapper salarymen and businesswomen who stand to inherit the area.

Situated a block from the hellmouth of the Bedford “L” subway train, our camera aims down the street, capturing Williamsburg on the hoof. Moments after a person enters into the frame, the camera snaps, sending its image onto our blog. For the online fashion browser, a boon: the blog updates in realtime, showcasing each new image as quick as it can be appraised. Online viewers can watch a live feed, peruse a recent history of images, or compare shots over the days and weeks as FW-2012 blossoms into SS-2013.

We’re not sure what’s going on here.

The Most Blogged About Shows This Week

Kanye West

It’s refreshing (and relaxing) to talk about something other than CMJ for a change.  Not that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy myself during the all-out clusterfuck of a festival that is the “Music Marathon,” but the weight of tracking hundreds of shows, attending them, and consuming all the free booze that’s flowing over a few days borders on burdensome at some points.  I know.  Serious, SERIOUS #hipsterproblems.

I digress.  The beauty of New York City is that we’re not waiting all year to see bands.  We’re not Manchester, Tennessee or Indio, California.  Shit, we’re not even Austin, Texas (no offense.)  We ALWAYS have stuff going on.  And that’s why I’m here, no?

Where to Celebrate Halloween In New York 2012

Halloween in New York 2012

The Satanic Future Rave at Club Hell

UPDATED!!

Of course, you all want to go to The Satanic Future Rave at Club Hell on Saturday, but here are some other Halloween choices:

Rubulad frolic at The First Church of Satan: Disco of the Damned
Saturday, October 27

Your fiendish Rubulad producers invite the most craven characters of the underworld – and YOU! – to frolic at The First Church of Satan.

As always, there will be live – or should we say undead? – musical performances by 60′s French pop ensemble Les Sans Culottes, “vocal cartoonist” and “sound acrobat” Zeroboy, gypsy punk darlings Amour Obscur and a selection of Secret Scary Guests from New Orleans. The dance floor will be re-animated by your demonic DJs $mall ¢hange, Shakey and Voodoo Reagonomics.

Further heart-stopping shenanigans include G Scopitronic’s Non-Stop Monster Film Fest and Norm Francoeur’s Dark Circus of Woe, Horrible Art and Hellishly Hot F***ing Tamales, New York City’s most frightening cast of costumed patrons and additional awful surprises too numerous to enumerate. Need we tell you that you should dress damned to hell for having evil fun, you miserable sinners?! Seriously. Bring it. Because this, of all weekends, requires more than just a shocking pair of slacks.

The festivities take place at the First Church of Satan
626 Bushwick Ave.
Take the J, M, Z to the Myrtle Ave. stop and walk one block north to Bushwick Ave. on Jefferson St.

Doors at 9.
Shows begin at 9:30.
Party like a dead rock star till 4am.
10 brains before 10 or way late; otherwise 20 brains.

Unicorn Meat NYC presents Illuminate – Halloween Festival of Light & Music
Saturday, October 27

In a secluded part of Brooklyn, detached from the rest of the world, there lies a hidden street you have never been down. You’ve never even noticed it. If you dare to venture down, you will find the cultural oasis of your dreams. As you walk through the dark, you wonder if you’re headed the right way. You stop to listen. You don’t hear anything. It’s eerily quiet. You walk a little further. You still can’t hear it but for some reason you can feel it. You’re participating in a sacred ritual that many before you have experienced, yet none in a place quite like this .

At the end of the road is a gate protecting an expansive land of sound and color from everyday grime and grit. Inside lies a door leading to a concrete forest of glowing marvels. For a special moment in time, separate yourself from the rest of the world, and walk directly into the light.

Music by: RJD2, FreQ Nasty, Random Rab and many more. 21 and over

Will You Eat At The Woods’ New Restaurant?

via Landhaus blog

When I think of The Woods, the place to go in south Williamsburg when you want one of those kinds of nights, I don’t really think of fancy “farm to sandwich” cuisine. That may soon change; according to Eater, Brooklyn Flea favorite Landaus has announced that they’re opening a full restaurant inside The Woods. The restaurant – that’s right, not just a food cart – will take the place of the taco cart that’s been operating out of the backyard since 2009.

Landhaus at The Woods, as it will be called, will have a full kitchen and menu items like “wood-grilled heritage pork chops, grass fed cheeseburgers, lobster rolls, and roasted mushroom sandwiches with cheddar cheese sauce.” There will be a party for the restaurant’s opening this Sunday, October 28th from 2-6pm.

Loveskills live @ Union Pool

First time every seeing or hearing about Loveskills. They’re like electronic/dubstep. The drummer is a beast and the singer/guy on the keys is just unbelievable. Don’t take my word for it look for yourself. Enjoy!

Antica Pesa Now Open In The Enormous Space Formerly Known As Planet Thai

We can’t wait to try it. Let us know how it is in comments.

Francesco and Simone Panella, who own Antica Pesa in the Trastevere district of Rome, are trying their hand at New York. They see Williamburg, Brooklyn, as comparable to Trastevere, which is also artsy and across a river from the central city. Their menu is dominated by Roman classics, including spaghetti cacio e pepe, spaghetti carbonara and roast lamb, paired with a strictly Italian wine list. (Opens Friday): 115 Berry Street (North Seventh Street), Williamsburg, Brooklyn, (347) 763-2635.

Captured live: Seasick Mama @ Union Pool

I caught Seasick Mama’s set at Union Pool on 10/18/2012 during the CMJ showcase. What a great front woman! I was definitely entertained. She sings really good, her band is on point, and I’m sure being really hot doesn’t hurt either. Next time she comes to NYC you should definitely try to catch her set you won’t be disappointed. Enjoy!
