Voli Interview

So recently I came across this artist that goes by the name of Voli. Some of you may have caught wind of him from his work with artists such as Goyte and J.Cole in the past. But today I have the pleasure of introducing him and world premiering his new video “All The Same” off of his new album The Wall dropping in early 2012. Enjoy! Come check out the world premiere at noon sharp!

Prong played on a boat

The last time I saw Prong, they headlined the Dynamo Festival in the Netherlands in front of 120.000 kids in 1994. Yesterday the band played an intimate Rocks Off show on a boat, cruising around the island of Manhattan. What fun!

Reminder: Our CMJ Showcase Is Tonight

HEADS UP: The FREEwilliamsburg/My Social List un-official CMJ showcase is tonight at 7 PM, with some minor changes.

Unfortunately, Gary War canceled all of their CMJ shows, but never fear, Kristina Tequila was able to grab a worthy replacement; Led Er Est’s Shawn Devin O’Sullivan.  He’ll bring the dark industrial sounds of his side project Vapauteen to XPO 929’s dreary floor-level stage in their place.

I’m not one for the rain, but it’s as if the weather gods made good on a favor they owed the music gods for tonight.  They’ve cast a dark cloud over the city, a stark contrast from the clear and sunny skies we’ve enjoyed for CMJ thus far.

Vapauteen will be supported by a pair of somber and tenebrous post-punk acts, the more cold-wave leaning Black Marble, and your new neighbors, the more garage-leaning Weekend, who I recently sat down for an interview with.

Black Marble JUST released their debut album, A Different Arrangement, which is streaming on Brooklyn Vegan.  Don’t miss this special opportunity to hear it live in an intimate setting. I’m a few listens through and can already say that this is one of my favorite records of the year.

Weekend are hard at work on the follow up to 2010’s excellent LP Sports, and this show finds them smack in the middle of their first tour of Brooklyn as residents. Better hop on this one; they’re already playing bigger stages… like Bowery Ballroom tomorrow.

They’ll be supported by electronic acts Plastic Flowers, Dark Sister, and Yvette, one of our favorite local noise bands.

ANDDDDDDDDDD THERE WILL BE CHEAP DRINKS, namely $1 Rolling Rocks all night, and $4 Rolling Rock/shot combos.

Doors are at 7 PM and tickets (which are just six bucks) are on sale now.  Of course, badgeholders will be granted free access, with limited capacity.

Free Williamsburg and 319 Scholes Present Club Hell: A Satanic Future Rave on October 27th

We’ve had our eyes on one of media arts most up-and-coming spaces for awhile. So when the peeps at 319 Scholes asked if we wanted to help out with their immersive multimedia installation turned Halloween party, was there any question in our mind?

Proving that no one can do Halloween like 319 Scholes, on Saturday, October 27th, Club Hell will feature the music curating skills of UNO records with media artist and electronic musician Fatima Al Qadiri headlining alongside the visuals of THV Ent. — all against the back drop of a turn-of-the-century glass factory turned art space Knockdown Center.

Full Line Up:

Fatima Al Qadiri

Captured live: Backwords interview/live @ Public Assembly

Late night during music festivals everyone starts getting a little sauced/intoxicated. This is where the fun begins. When you add music to the mix and a bunch of pretty hipsters you got yourself a great recipe for a classic Brooklyn night! In this clip I interview Tim Pioppo of Backwords at Public Assembly. Then go into some live footage from their set. Catch them tonight at Legions. Enjoy!
