Listen to the new White Stripes, "Get Behind Me Satan"

getbehindmesatan.jpg

Somehow the new White Stripes record hasn't been leaked yet. In lieu of MP3's, Scenestars.net has provided a stream of the full record, "Get Behind Me Satan." This is a very different, more mellow, more sparse White Stipes almost completely devoid of Jimmy Page riffs. (Though "Red Rain" — one of the album's highlights — does sound like a Led Zeppelin III outtake). The good news is most of the record is more inspired than the cheesy Lenny Kravitz-sounding single "Blue Orchid." Start with "Little Ghost," a carefree bluegrass-inspired hoedown. "As Ugly as I Seem" is a lovely confessional on accoustic guitar, accompanied by Meg on bongos. Upon first listen, "Get Behind Me Satan" sounds like the proverbial "transitional" record. Most notably, many tracks are piano-driven, a break with their tradional guitar-heavy sound. Vibes, banjos, and xylophones are added to the mix on several tracks. Regardless of your opinion of their new sound, one question will linger; what's up with the Zoro costume, Jack? [The record is due to be released June 6]

WHITE STRIPES
I WENT TO THE CONCERTS AND I DID'T GET TO SEE THEM.
I WAS LOCKED IN THE RESTROOM FOR 25 MINUTES AND DIDN'T SEE THEM MUCH.

curly people... talkin bout people
just try to listen and play and pretend hmm?
but i guess thats the price of making someone smile just once. next time they be expectin. if it doesn't come, then they buzz around.
doesn't matter in the end though i guess.

I love the white stripes. This album is very diffrent from their other albums, but i still adore them. i love jack white's voice and i like how they are trying diffrent things.

i'll be buying this cd right away.

i like "doorbell" esp.

the white stripes are amazing... that's all that needs to be said.

It has already been leaked. Blue Orchid does suck, but the album grows song by song. I felt somehow disapointed over the first 3 songs, but when I was like in track 6, I realised I was actually enjoying it. It's a good album, kinda different though.
The mediocrity of "Elephant"? Whoever says that, only fears popularity. My fav is still Stijl, but everybody liked Elephant at first, only to hate it when it got over exposed.
And Meg is hot. Really hot.

The Stripes give me massive diarheea on Dobsons face, head, and neck.

meg looks hot and they finally got to a delta blues look

meg looks hot in this photo - doesn't happen in every shot, you know.

is that johnny depp with meg? i miss him.

pretty cool album i really like "my doorbell" ranks somewhere in between the mediocrity of elephant and the brillance of wbc and de stilj

i don't like blue orchid.... at all

It's good to see them doing something different. I agree that Blue Orchid, the single, is cheesy but the rest of the record sounds great. It has a lonely contemplative feel to it. No stand-out songs, but a good album-as-a-whole release. I listened to it back to back three times and liked it better with each listen.
