There's a fantastic new Sushi place in Greenpoint!!! You might have tried it before and been unimpressed, but that was because it was under different ownership up until Dec 3, 2005. Now, I can attest - it's really excellent, authentic Japanese food and sushi. The chef used to work in some of the fanciest Sushi places in Manhattan and knows his stuff. The people there are so unassuming that it worries me they might not stay affloat from the lack of aggressive business tactics, it's obvious.
The only shit that seems to float to the service around this fucking area(98% of the time, at least) are the overpriced, snobby joints with ass hole, spoiled brat, contemptful customer service. Or the pure shit holes that serve spicey gruel for 20 dollars a plate. Or, third option: the disgusting food factories like Planet Thai and the Sea(barf!). Those lame-o places might as well shit their food out of a giant playdo machine!
So, enjoy the homestyle Japanese food while you can! They're too nice, the prices are too cheap, and the food is prepared with too much love for them to stay affloat for long! Not to be confused with the lackluster imitation Japanese place that was there originally! Notice they've repainted the front to green!

I ate at Lodge last night, and although it was raining and the patio was closed it was totally adorable and cozy. It's got this cool vibe, you can kinda just retreat on stormy nights... and when I've been before on nice nights it's all open air and refreshing, it totally doesn't feel like industrial williamsburg!
We got the jumbo shrimp to start, which were awesome, and the turkey meatloaf and veggie plate, both delicious and perfect for this rapidly-cooling weather. I've also gotten the burger (which is damn good) and the avocado salad (really tangy lemon dressing with sweet roasted corn... awesome mix!). The food's very reasonably priced, plus cheap beer-- $2 NOT just at happy hour! Definitely can't go wrong. Plus, it's just so pretty... totally brightens Havemeyer St. Very glad they're here!
