The Church has been concerned with the second coming of Christ since before He was even crucified; in His famous Sermon on the Mount, the disciples asked Jesus about His return and He gave one of His most famous discourses found in the Bible. In this very famous discourse, Jesus relays much of what is going to happen in what is known as the “End Times.” This end time encompasses a time of trouble, known as The Great Tribulation or the Time of Jacobs Suffering, in which the Anti-Christ--a human world leader--will rule for a period of seven years. The climax of this Time of Tribulation is an event which has often been talked about and portrayed in Hollywood films, the Battle of Armageddon--a period in which Jesus will return with the armies of Heaven to battle the evil forces of this world.

Most , although not all, modern Christian Churches teach these core end times doctrine principles, and most biblical scholars agree that the above mentioned view is easily supported by scripture. There is, however, one event which is described biblically, but unfortunately, is not quite as clear cut in its interpretive placement of end times events. This event is commonly known as the Rapture--although the word itself is not found in scripture but rather was coined from a word found in the Latin Gospel, Rapturo, meaning, “to catch up.” The Rapture is biblically depicted in several passages including Matt 24:31, 1 Cor 15:51-53, and 1 Thess 4:15-18; it is described as the taking away of the Christian Church, both living (at the time of the Rapture) as well as the dead who have fallen asleep in Christ, this includes the Old Testament Saints. This event is unique in its nature, it is the first resurrection, where all faithful Christians will be given their glorified heavenly bodies, perfect in shape and form. Although this event is of enormous importance to the Church, it is important to make the distinction between the Second Coming--the appearance of Christ at the Battle of Armageddon--and the Rapture, which are in fact two very different and distinct events.

Because of its somewhat undetermined placement within the scope of end times events the Rapture has become a somewhat controversial topic within the Church. The common view, or at least most widely taught view, within the Church is the “Pre-Tribulation View,” a view that asserts that all faithful Christians will be taken away prior to the troubles that will come upon the world during the seven year period of Great Tribulation, which is described in Daniel 9:27. Unfortunately, this view is lacking in scriptural support and has been relying on tradition, coupled with the confusion of many teachers and believers concerning the Book of Revelation, for its place of prominence within the Christian community. We, here at Disciples United, believe that a more accurate biblical view is a misunderstood theory that has caused widespread controversy, and even anger, among many Christians.

What's the big deal you may be asking, it seems like this is a relatively minor point for Christians to be squabbling over, in light of all the other battles that are on the horizon. This is in fact what many “pre-trib,” rapturist say when the point is brought up, it’s not a point of salvation right? But here in lies the problem, for it may in fact be a point of salvation. As any Christian knows, there is nothing that you can do to earn salvation, it is through faith and the grace of God alone; it is important to note however, that there is something that you can do to lose your salvation and that is the active rejection of the Christian faith. Certainly it makes logical sense that God will not sentence someone to heaven if they do not want to be there, someone who throws away the precious free gift of God in favor of the world will certainly not receive salvation. Why or how could this happen? Well, Jesus talks in some detail about this very point in the Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew 24:9-13 he describes an event during the Great Tribulation which many biblical scholars refer to as the Great Apostasy of the Church.

Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because of your allegiance to me. And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. And many false prophets will appear and will lead many people astray. Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. But those that endure to the end will be saved. Matt 24:9-13

Well this certainly can’t happen, because the events that Jesus describes here clearly take place within the Great Tribulation period, but the Church should not be here… so who is he talking to? Some have suggested that he is speaking to the Jewish men and women who will be living through this period; it is clear however that Jesus is addressing the disciples at the time, so why would he make this obscure reference to the Hebrews and not the Church without specifically mentioning it? Well there is an alternative theory, which is called the Pre-Wrath view, and it suggests that the Church will live through the vast majority of the Great Tribulation period, a time which will be unprecedented for its immense persecution of the followers of Christ. If this is the case, and we as the Church are living in the end times period as is described biblically (see the End-Times Prophecy Article to find out more), then the Church may very well be in for a very rude surprise that may cause many to “turn away from me and betray and hate each other.” If this is the case, than it is certainly time for the Church to mobilize and move away from the complacent peacetime mind set that has permeated the American Christian lifestyle.

But is there Scriptural evidence to support this Pre-Wrath View? Absolutely there is, and as we go through the Word of God you will see the the evidence seems to be in overwhelming support of this unpopular, and widely controversial view point. Please refer to the Chart below, and familiarize yourself with some of the key events and key verses prior to moving forward in this study as it will help orientate you with the big picture.

Before we delve into the Pre-Trib, Pre-Wrath discussion, it is important to understand the Scriptural basis for a Tribulation period at all. Most Christian do expect a literal seven year period, but to lay the structural ground work upon which the Pre-Wrath view will be built, we will start at the bottom and work toward the precipice; by first outlining the seven year period in a synopsis, you will clearly be able to understand the case for Pre-Wrath as each new piece of supporting evidence is added. To start this project, we must first turn to a man from the past, the founder of the Reformation, Martin Luther. He was instrumental in laying down the correct hermeneutics methodology for viewing scriptures. In this hermeneutics processes we must first view all scripture at face value, and we must interpret scripture with a literal exegesis, or explanation. It is key to remember that this method needs to be applied to all scripture, and this includes prophecy; when we apply this process, we recognize that there are often figurative symbols embedded within the literal storyline of prophecy. Many Christians leaders have made an error in this area, and it is that they have taken to the practice of viewing all prophecy in a symbolic or figurative fashion, this robs much prophecy of the common sense interpretation.

This seven year period will start with a peace treaty as is described in Daniel Chapter 9:27, “He (the Anti-Christ) will make a treaty with the people (Israel) for a period of one set of seven (a literal seven years), but after half this time, he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. Then as a climax to all his terrible deeds, he will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration, until the end that has been decreed is poured out on this defiler.” As this verse suggests, there will be a peace treaty that is signed between Israel and the surrounding Arab nations, this peace treaty will be brokered by the international powers that will directly, or indirectly, be associated with the Beast, or Anti-Christ. This peace treaty will involve Israel giving away a large portion of land in return of an internationally guaranteed peace, the Hebrews will receive a portion of the Temple Mount on which they will rebuild the Temple, completely unobstructed by the Muslim community.

At 1230 days into the Tribulation period (Daniel 12:11) the Temple Sacrifices will be forcibly halted by this person that is biblically described as the Beast. He will enter the Temple, falsely declare himself to be God on earth and will demand worship from all tribes and nations; this is the abomination of desolation which is described in Daniel. At the end of this seven year period, Jesus (Yeshua, His Hebrew name) will return to defeat the Anti-Christ and his world system, and will start His earthly reign.

Now that we understand what exactly the Tribulation Period is composed of, its time to start building the case for the Pre-Wrath view. The first place that we need to turn is to Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 24, let's read an excerpt starting in verse 29 -31.

29 Immediately after tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from the heaven, and the powers of the heaven shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shell see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of the other to the other. Matthew 24:29-31

The second part of this statement, verse 31, clearly identifies the rapture of the Church using the same terminology as is found in other Rapture verses, 1 Cor 15:51-52, and 1 Thess 4:16-17.

51 “Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed. 52 In a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." 1 Cor 15:51-52

16 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." 1 Thess 4:16-17

It becomes fairly obvious, and commonsensical, that Matthew 24:31 is a reference to the rapture of the Church; it is also very obvious that this event occurs after this bizarre event in the heavens, and the sign of the coming of the Son of man. So what exactly is this bizarre sign in the heavens, and what shall be the sign of the Coming of the Son of man? Well, we are given some clarification in the Book of Revelation Chapter 6, make sure that you pay special attention to the wording and order; it will also help if you refer back to Matthew 24:29-31 to help gain a little clarity.

12 And I beheld when he (Jesus) had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13 And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, even as a fig tree casts her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. Rev 6:12-14; Compare this to Matthew 24:29

15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and the rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? Rev 6:15-17; Compare this to Matthew 24:30

When you reflect and compare these two passages, it becomes plain that the events that are described here are in fact the same event, an event which is magnificent in nature and unique in its character. We know that the rapture, as is described in Matthew 24:31, takes place after this sign in the heavens, which Revelation makes clear is the sixth seal; the sixth seal as you see in the timeline above, takes place well into the Tribulation period. The next question that we must ask to help substantiate this claim, is whether or not the Book of Revelation seems to support this Pre-Wrath view. We will turn to Revelation Chapter 7:9, 13-16, which takes place immediately after the sixth seal but before the seventh seal, which is found in Rev 8:1.

9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;… 13 And one of the elders answered, saying to me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? And whence came they? 14 And I said to him, Sir, you know. And he said to me, These are they which came out of the great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sits on the throne shall dwell among them. 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. Rev 7:9, 13-16

Revelation gives us a very clear and concise picture of events, the seals are certainly part of the Great Tribulation, the Sixth seal represents the sign in the heavens and the sign of the Coming of the Son of Man. The rapture takes place immediately after this event, which is clear because suddenly a multitude that John--the author of the Book of Revelation--had not seen before is now in front of the throne of God, and one of the Elders even tells us that “These are they which came out of the great tribulation.” This of course not only falls in line with the timeline that is given in Matthew, but meets the correct hermeneutics interpretation that was discussed earlier.

Since it is obvious that the rapture occurs at the sixth seal, and is equally as obvious that the seals are contained within the Tribulation Period, it is the natural conclusion that the Church will undergo a large portion of this very difficult period of persecution; as Jesus says, "For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be" Matt 24:21. So what then is the Pre-Wrath view of the Rapture? The Church has commonly misinterpreted the seals as being part of God’s judgment, this is an incorrect assumption, which has caused much confusion throughout the Christian community. The seals represent a removing of the Spirit of God; it represents the period in which the world and the Church will be given over to the Anti-Christ for a time in which he will be given power to persecute those that follow after Christ. The wrath as is suggested in Revelation 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? Happens after the seals, and is in relation to the Trumpet and Vial Judgments… not the seals.

This is not all the evidence that exists, nor does the material above cover all the reasons behind the Pre-Trib View point, but it does provide you with enough information to seek the rest of the answers for yourself. This is important and may be the difference between physical and spiritual life and death; it mattered an immense amount to our Lord and thus should matter to us… after all, this is the great hope of the Church. It is crucial for you to consider these points in a prayerful manner, look at the evidence and search for answers of your own; do not take what anyone says, minister or other wise, solely on your faith in them. Go back to the Word and see what God has to say. Check out www.DisciplesUnited.org to find out more.

If you believe and you take the time to read your own bible you will soon see it is the "resurrection" we will all taking part in. The escape doctrine of the "rapture" is false and is leading many into a fasle hope. When things go wrong and the earth begins to shake and moon goes black what will those who have set their hearts on a rapture, and escape to heaven, be thinking? Hum, maybe they will be shouting, "where is the promise of His coming, where?" This will be the voices of the "scoffers" as they see they have not gone to heaven. Wise up and get your heart set on our Savior, YaHshua, and strengthen your mind and your spirit, by His words, for the times ahead. listen friends, there is coming a Great Quake, a worldwide event that will shake this earth to its very foundations, and this is going to happen before our Lord returns. Read you bible, see for yourself. Read Matthew 24, then read Revelation 6:12-17 and match them up and you will see the truth. Prepare yourself, that you might stand in that day. I pray someone's eyes will be opened to escape this end-time delusion.

Ah What? I think Christians in general over exadurate and miss interpret the bible thus prob why we get comments like these or people like this.

I think ppl need to wake up and read the Bible with Logic in mind and not blind faith. Not saying it is fake just saying ppl preach blindly without opening there eyes to see.

Its really Annoying.

PS who is to say YOU are going to be taken away?
Only God knows for he gave you to his Son to take away.

Escape this messed-up world? You're responsible for it! God didn't send any plague nor war nor hunger. We did. It no one's fault but ours. You didn't come here to escape, you came to fix it, suffering or not, evolving into a higher being. God, if he/she or something like it exists (it makes no difference), has nothing to do with it.

Be responsible. Be tolerant. Be giving. Don't be stupid. Don't be racist. Religions only caused harm. We're all the same. Leave God aside.

God i really Love you with all my heart. And i'm too excited to see you face to face.

Believers all over the world who love the Lord with all their hearts will go in the rapture. That means Christians in the U.S. who have not had to suffer much persecution for our faith, and Christians in other countries who have had to suffer martyrdom, will both get to go. It's about God's plan for all believers; although Israel is and always will be the focus of it.
Rapture, then 7-year tribulation, then the second coming of Christ.
Then the 1000-year millenium where Jesus rules from Jerusalem. That's a very simple outline.

Be ready for His coming...you don't want to be here with the Antichrist in power! It'll be like if Hitler managed to succeed and take over the entire world and destroy the food supply to kill as many people as possible; and the only way to survive is if you worship him to get clearance for food stamps.
not to mention the plagues that God sends as punishment for not turning to Him instead!

I hope I'm not here very shortly. There is nothing I want more in life than to escape this messed-up world and go to heaven where everything is perfect. =)

DUDE! seriously this picture made my day!

ok... I did not know your post was more of a spin on just the foolishness I was asking about... (I did not come to the pic via your site, but via google)
