So yeah, he might be all hip and cool now, but when I knew Jona Bechtolt in high school, he had frosted tips, braces, and played in a power-pop band (full disclosure: I had purple hair, braces, and wrote naughty words in magic marker on my arms). Anyway, Jona has grown up quite nicely, and in addition to doing the crazy laptop-noise project YACHT, he’s also one-half of the Blow. “Paper Television” was one of my favorite records of last year, and they manage to make poppy girl vocals and synth beats equal way more than the sum of their parts.
