McCarren Park Pool 2008 Schedule
Since lots of people have been asking about McCarren Park Pool, here's the short answer. Yes, the venue will once again be hosting shows this summer. Sadly, this will be the last summer to enjoy live concerts. [Full story here]. We'll be maintaining the calendar at www.mccarrenpark.com.
Beginning in June, JELLYNYC and Helio will be hosting free Pool Parties on Sundays. Meanwhile, Ticketmaster will be selling shamefully overpriced tickets for the shows they represent as well. Hopefully, Live Nation won't be transforming McCarren Park into patchouli-infested hacky sack land again this year by booking jambands.
Confirmed shows thus far include Wilco, M.I.A. and Hold Steady. There are some pretty cool rumors circulating too. Visit mccarrenpark.com for the full schedule.

think another group altogether once the pool opens. City pools are notoriously disgusting. There is a reason the pool was shut down in the first place (and it's not because the people in the neighborhood were a bunch of racists, either). People were doing things like washing out dirty diapers in the pool! Trust me, no one who actually lives in the neighborhood is going to be able to use the pool once renovated, unless a fee is charged. Look how disgusting McCarren Park is. Think of all the chicken bones everywhere. Think of how disgusting the track is and how people think it's cool to just hang out on it or let their toddlers wander around and eat on it. Think about how people cook out in the park even though it's illegal to do so. Now, put all that in the pool and you can imagine how disgusting it's going to be. Also there will be even more of the criminal element drawn to the neighborhood - they'll come in for a nice day at the pool, trash the park and mug someone on the way home. Oh yeah, it's going to be great.
