Pastor Roger Byrd: Quite Possibly the Dumbest Man Alive

From WSPA.com
Pastor Roger Byrd of Jonesville Church of God put the sign up which reads "Obama Osama humm are they brothers?" Pastor Byrd says the sign is not meant to be racial or political but rather to make people think. "His name is so close to Osama I have a feeling he might be Islamic therefore he doesn't recognize Christ," Pastor Byrd said. Jonesville Church of God does not have any African American members.

This man is not speaking the words of a Christian. He is a hate-filled, redneck idiot who has been taught to hate his entire life. What's sad is that he feels his hatred is connected to his relationship with God. Hogwash! He's nothing more than a glorified Klan member in my book. He probably has the hood hanging in his closet! He should be forced to resign his position and people like this really give Christianity a bad name. Christ would NOT condone his words or actions!

You know what? Criticizing Roger Byrd isn't "hate speech", it's truth speech. I'm from Tennessee, the buckle of the Bible Belt. Clowns like Freebyrd (sorry, I couldn't resist)have congregations that believe any clueless, history-and-geography-free ramblings that issue forth from their pitiful, backwoods preacher's mouth. Am I hateful? Maybe so. I'm just sick of these goons telling everybody their "truths" when they have no fucking knowledge about the world outside their little church and their little "commun'ty".

1) This guy clearly embodies the small-minded bigotry of white, evangelical Christianity, or what I like to call, Christ-insanity. He is clearly resorting to cheap smears and innuendo to sway voters. Separation of church and state doesn't mean pastors must refrain from political discourse, but, given the (questionable) amount of trust their congregations place in them, they should exercise greater responsiblity and be truthful. Byrd was deceitful. He knows damned well that Obama is a Christian, although even if he were a Muslim, why would that matter? Osama and the other nut jobs have killed more fellow Muslims than non-Muslims anyway. There is nothing bad about Muslims - just the nutty ones, like Pat Roberts. Oh sure, he SAYS he's a Christian, but like another poster wrote about Obama, why should we believe him? Maybe Bush is secretly practicing Islam too? These right-wing Christians all seem to have willfully submitted to having their brains removed. Why does faith to them seem to mean completely throwing away your God-given ability to use your brain to reason and question? They eat the crap spewed at them by anyone who claims to be a person of God. And what happens? The shepherds send them off to slaughter...

Where is the public outrage, where is the 24/7 coverage in the media?
Apparently, as long as a pastor is white and radical right he can say anything and get away with it.

I agree that this sign should not have been put up at a church, but you people keep putting him down for "hate speech" and then proceed to blast this man with hate speech of your own, so who is the hypocrite? Hate speech is hate speech...and if it is wrong for one, then it's wrong for another. Also, I believe this pastor did NOT mean anything racist by this. How come when someone is "half white, half black" they are claimed as "black" by the black community? Obama is HALF WHITE so maybe some black guy somewhere who is not supporting Obama should be called racist because Obama is "white". LOL LOL LOLSkin color is only skin color. Just listen to Obama talk about saving the world. Is he the messiah? I think he thinks so....

Wow Joel
Looks like someone besides this pastor doesn't understand the concept of Judge not least yea be judged.
You want to hate - fine - but be sincere and watch the hypocracy there.

James, it is very appropriate to apply this behavior to many pastors in this country. I have been a Christian since for over 25 years and have seen and heard some vile, racists, homophobic, biggotted remarks and "teachings" come from the mouths of so-called Christian pastors. If this doesn't apply to other pastors, then how come in the last few years we have seen so many of them look ridiculous with their comments and ignorant, Bible-toting ways?

I, for one, believe that Pastor Byrd has a valid point with the question he poses: is Sen. Obama, in truth, a practicing Muslim while hiding behind his Christian Church roots in Chicago?
His ties with Communists, as a younger man, added to his Islamic roots and his association with Islamic family members while basically denying the grandmother who was responsible for his 'care' through high school and into college... engenders "Red Flags" as to his true allegiance.

Remember the brouhaha made over comments by Rev. Wright when some thought he was endorsing Obama?
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/03/12/obamas-controversial-pastor-puts-church-in-hot-water/
There were screams from the right that he violated federal law by mixing politics with religion and thus should lose his tax exempt status. I guess we'll be seeing a similar furor from the right over Rev. Byrd's actions, and calls for the rescinding of his church's exemption any day now... aaaannyy day.

Yes, the very sad part about this whole thing is that his congregation will definitely back their pastor. They will indeed wonder to themselves whether or not this complete coincidence holds water in the new context it has been shown. They will assume that, because of this happenstance, Barack Obama is a Muslim. From there their tiny little brains will then move on to thoughts of terrorism. From there they will assume that if Barack Obama gets elected he will set up al-Qaeda safe-havens in a grand, elaborate scheme to infringe our personal freedoms. Good God!! Thank the Lord that Pastor Byrd had the foresight to snuff out this diabolical plot, and the fortitude to bring the evidence to, now, national attention despite being ridiculed by bleeding heart liberals who are all destined for the lake of fire!! HALLELUJAH!! This (and other such religious zealidiots) reminds me of the placid island of ignorance H.P. Lovecraft wrote about. It is a rather blissful place.

It made me think alright. I think the hypocrite racist Pastor Byrd needs an attitude adjustment. If his "flock" has any balls they would run him out of town on the next rail.
Posted by: BillyRay | April 22, 2008 01:20 PM
I'm not sure it's racism but probably anti-muslim or against foreigners. Discrimination nonetheless. I guess this guy finally got the rumor that was spread a couple months back about Obama being a secret muslim. It's related to the Farakhan/anti-semitic business not race.

This pastor is quite ignorant, but Bush is still the dumbest man alive in my book.

Did the talking snake tell him to put that sign up?
Posted by: Gene campbell | April 22, 2008 12:17 PM
what COLOR is this church - white or black?
I just want to know so that I can hate the congregation appropriately, both for their racism and their OBVIOUS stupidity.
Posted by: Don O'Treply | April 22, 2008 11:36 AM
Is this Hillary and McCain's brother. What an idiot ans what a sad, stupid congregation. HATE IS ALIVE AND WELL IN THE US OF A.
Posted by: Avorrio | April 22, 2008 11:18 AM
even more proof that south carolina is hands-down the most racist state. it should not only be expelled from the union and boycotted but some how economically driven right back to the stone age. they can have ann coulter (who spills her filth about obama nightly on fox news) and michelle malkin. i swear, they were all made for each other.
Posted by: james | April 22, 2008 11:15 AM
Please don't judge all pastors based on this idiot! He not only shows his ignorance but risks losing the church's tax exempt status by doing this.
He obviously has a thinking disorder because of his assumption that Sen. Obama may be a Muslim because his name CHOSEN BY HIS PARENTS is close to another. If my name were Benedict it wouldn't make me the pope!
What an idiot, but again, don't think all pastors are like this.
Posted by: Jim | April 22, 2008 06:53 AM
What's worse than this idiot hack showing that sign is that people actually believe it. If you ask me, its a pretext for racism. I wonder how many of his congregation have lost a family member in Iraq. They're Rubes!!

Posted by: jay | April 22, 2008 12:16 AM
good point, but why should we even be "implying" that he's Muslim. Why does it matter if he is? Separation of Church and State, anyone? Anyone? It's unacceptable any way you cut it.

This is a sad example of ignorant hate speech and should be protested until it is removed.Senator Obama is an United States Senator. Implying he is Muslim is one thing, but suggesting he is the brother of a terrorist who killed more that 3000 innocent Americans is another thing altogether. It is unacceptable. How do we contact this church?
