Boycotting Northside

northside.JPG

Cyclists in Williamsburg are calling for a boycott of Northside Car Service after a hit and run last week at the corner of North 7th and Kent. Gowanus Lounge has the boycott email, which basically lays out the story...

Yesterday there was another bicycle accident on Kent and North 7th in Williamsburg. A hit and run. The cyclist was going straight and a Northside Car Service made an irrationally fast turn and almost hit the cyclist. The cyclist, with little time to react, had to slam on the brakes, flipped completely over the handlebars, and landed under the hood of the car. The car drove off. The cyclists was taken to the hospital with a broken elbow and collarbone - and, thankfully, no worse injuries than that.

So, who else can you use? Well, there's Metroline (718-388-1800), Java (718-383-5600), Mobile (718-383-8300), Bushwick (718-386-5002), and Song (718-821-4444) to name a few. Any others I'm missing, and/or anyone familiar with Northside care to make a statement? Contact me.

Lori I agree with you....Boycott the Jews.

I have to agree with Max about one-sided reporting. I had the light and was crossing the street with a baby carriage and dog and a cyclist ran the light and almost ran over my dog. The only ones who are worse are the Hasids in mini-vans

What the hell does "the cyclist was going straight" mean?

As a cyclist, pedestrian, and driver in Williamsburg I can promise you that cyclist are by far the worst offenders of basic traffic rules.

Cyclists frequently go the wrong way in bike lanes (EVEN THOUGH there are now bike lanes on Berry AND Wythe), run through stop signs, and generally disregard all rules dictated by law.

This is one-sided reporting and y'all know it. Which lane was the biker in? Was he/she going north or south? What is an "irrationally fast" turn anyway?

C'mon.

there's 'new brooklyn' too. 718.388.2828

Thank you so much for this list; I would have been at a loss otherwise if Northside shut their doors.

Mobile & Metroline have always worked out for me.

I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner. I can't count how many times I've been riding around and been almost slammed by Northside cars veering into random side streets, without signaling or showing any consideration for cyclist. I actually back off when I see them on the streets because of their erratic driving.
