Faltering Economy Hits New Pei King on Bushwick Avenue
I saw New Pei King, the Chinese restaurant at the corner of Powers and Bushwick Avenue get robbed last night. After parking my car somewhere in the triangle between Bushwick, Metropolitan, and Grand Ave., I was walking back towards my apartment on Ainslie when I saw a shady dude sneaking around the storefront of the restaurant. Then, suddenly, he jumped in, grabbed a HUGE bag of food sitting there for pickup/delivery, and took off on one of the delivery guy's bikes. He tore off down Bushwick Avenue headed south, passed a cop car, and disappeared around the corner.
I tried alerting the workers of New Pei King that there was a cop a block away, but the language barrier prevented that bit of crisis communication. Instead, they hopped on some reserve bikes, slammed the metal gate storefront shut, and took off in hot pursuit. I say we just blame Lehman Brothers and get on with it. Prepare yourselves, Chinese delivery aficionados of Williamsburg and Bushwick, the subprime mortgage crisis is slowly nibbling away at your egg rolls, and there just isn't enough duck sauce in Brooklyn to douse the fire.

I used to love getting delivery from there even though they were 2 blocks from my place. how shameful!
