Spotted: Maggie Stevenson
This week's Spotted feature works seven days a week, balancing her work as a young entrepreneur and a shop gal on your neighborhood block.
Name: Maggie Stevenson
Profession: Shop Girl at Cat Bird and Jewelery Maker
Describe Your Personal Style:
Maggie's Style. Its like um, Urban Thia? Like a little bit of Yoga meets a little bit of Brooklyn.
How long have you been living in New York?
I am originally from here but recently moved back from Eugene Oregon where I was going to school.
I figured there were more career opportunities here, or else I would have never left that beautiful state.
You mentioned you make jewelry, is that a main interest?
Jewelry making is what pays my bills. I went to school for Metal Smithing. My dad wanted me to be an engineer because I was so good at science and math and thought for sure I would have more luck in that field, but now he is eating his words because I have become so successful at what I do.
So do you sell your jewelry here at Cat Bird?
Yes, Monday through Friday I am in my shop making jewelry then on the weekends I work the desk here at the store and try to sell it. I have my own line called Metal Magg and I am a contributor for the Cat Bird line along with the Jezebel line.
What is one of your more memorable achievements?
Getting my line out there was a big accomplishment for me. The unique thing about my line of jewelry is that I hand form each piece individually which is very time consuming and laborious. Most jewelry these days are made from a cast mold but all of mine are unique filled with Maggie love.
