Mesa Coyoacan Open

Coyoacan.jpg

Tonight marks the official opening of Mesa Coyoacan, a traditional Mexican restaurant from chef Ivan Garcia, original menu designer for Barrio Chino and most recently chef de cuisine at Mercadito. There’s nothing avant-garde about the menu, most of which will seem familiar at first glance--his “grandma’s recipes,” as Garcia put it, down to house-made tortillas--albeit with modern touches such as Berkshire pork in the carnitas tacos and grass fed beef for the carne asada. Look for tacos (3 for $9), a sampling of ceviches, sopas, and tamales, as well as entrees, including enchiladas de mole, pork-and-fruit-stuffed poblanos topped with walnut sauce and pomegranate seeds, and spiced lamb in chile ancho, chile guajillo, and avocado leaves steamed in a banana leaf, none over $15. Those price points and the warm interior (Chino-style wood tables for up to 14; salvaged 1940s wallpaper; and actual family photos hovering over the dining space like a glowering abuelita) you can expect Coyoacan to finally turn the former Pampa Grill space in Graham Ave’s “Fish Tank” building into the destination those architects clearly meant it to be.

Beer and wine only for now, including red and white sangria. Brunch due next week. Full menu here.

This place is amazingly good - everything we had was delicious and priced right. We've only ordered for take out and they were really nice so I'm not surprised the service is good.

I just moved over onto Graham ave and I'm so excited that Mesa Coyoacan have opened. Fantastically good authentic Mexican, great waitstaff. And they are only 3 blocks from my new digs. Everything was great, I'll be a regular fixture at the bar for sure.

We went last night and it was all that and more...the salsas were perfect, the tacos de carnitas were crazy good. My husband got the steak enchiladas verdes and the salsa was an amazing creamy/spicy mix. The Michelada could be a tad spicier. Try the churros or plátanos for dessert. The wait staff was friendly and attentive even though they were packed - and only 1 week after opening. We live 1 block away and never set foot in Pampa because the menu was uninspired and the prices were too high - plus the cooks were always hanging outside smoking cigs since they never had customers. A HUGE improvement.

I went to Mesa Coyoacan last Monday and I felt in love with the restaurant's food, desing and the service. I do recommend it to go with all your fiends.... there is a huge table to share it ... Love that table!

intresting i might go check this place out.
ive only eaten l,a mexican food twice, but its mostly tex mex related. nyc has a style of it's own which i enjoy but ive seen alot of tex-mex places opening here as of late, but if youre looking for authentic mexican food you should check out places in queens especially corona and astoria and some places in bk.ive never eaten a veggie burrito to be honest ;-).but i love beef burritos ,highly recomended to everyone especially to us gym rats who are looking for a meal snack to help bulk up ;-)

stumbled across this place during their public opening. awesome food. great atmosphere. not your typical burrito and taco joint. very few vegetarian options, but the grilled cactus and mushroom tacos were unbelievable.

Great Mexican food in LA is an old wives tale. NYC has more good Mexican than LA.

My roomate and I were just admiring the crenelations from our rooftop a few blocks away.

Is this a multiple story venue?

good mexican in the hood?
what are you talking about there are alot of authentic mexican places here, as for the l.a food, you cant compare the same mexican food from l.a and ny because both sides have their own unique style of mexican food.

REDIK!!! My wife and I stumbled in here a few nights ago to try it out, and much to our suprise it was a free tasting (we had a few pitchers of the Sangria [thw white sangria with peaches and pears in UNREAL], and some delicious food for zero dollars and zero cents) so we tipped the gorgeous wait staff and came back the next night to get the real experience. The food is literally out of this world. The decor is comfortable and the people are awesome. ****** (six stars)

I went to Mesa this Saturday and I was really surprised that the food was the most authentic Mexican food in Brooklyn .... I've lived in L.A for many years ... and I had not found a restaurant .... with such good environment, desing and and what is the most important the food.

I tried this place last night. It's DELICIOUS!!! I can't wait to go back. The food reminds me of Crema on E17th Street, but for half the price!

OMGOMGOMG

does this mean we have GOOD mexican in the hood? Does it deliver ??? PLEASE SAY YES

So sick of settling for Taco Chulo
PRAYING this delivers as Bonita and La Superior don't to our hood (lorimer/grahm) stops
