Deafheaven and Indian Jewelry played Northside Festival

Last Friday Deafheaven and Indian Jewelry co-headlined the Pitchfork/Weird Northside Festival showcase at Saint Vitus Bar in Greenpoint. While knowing well in advance what kind of blistering sonic bliss to expect from Deafheaven, Indian Jewelry’s strobe infused tribaldelia won us over by complete surprise. Den Svarta Fanan plays The Acheron in June

Experimental and avant-garde outfit “Den Svarta Fanan” will be at The Acheron on June 20. This show is a special collaboration of music & words about the Japanese Fukushima nuclear-reactor meltdown & anti-nuclear movement’s response. It will feature Yuko Tonohira (voice), Nonoko Yoshida (alto), Joe Merolla (bass) and Weasel Walter (drums).

Bushwick Open Studios this Weekend

The annual Bushwick Open Studios art exhibit is happening again this weekend. Check out the full schedule here.

On a personal note, a friend talked me into participating myself. 308 Jefferson in Bushwick turns it’s 4-story hallway into a huge art exhibit, with the 4th floor being dedicated to (((unartig))) screenings. Be prepared for a sweltering and non air conditioned sweat fest that starts at noon.
