WE SAY: A non-touristy staple. It has a maroon pool table, a pinball machine, and a an occasionally used DJ's booth populate the back. It is a largish space, and the air conditioning rocks in the summer. Beers start at $4 or so and the bartenders are always competent and often quite friendly. Small but solid tap selection (Guinness, Brooklyn Beers, etc.) and in general, no b.s. or hassles. Definitely worth visiting and the growing gay scene at The Abbey makes this bar even more appealing whether you are straight, gay, or undecided. Plus the jukebox will pleases fans of early 90's indie.

NY MAG SAYS: In 2003, Jede Brahma (who also owns nearby Art Land) took over a struggling, almost exclusively Latino bar in a rapidly shifting neighborhood and transformed it into an amiably scruffy spot to bridge the gap between longtime residents and younger transplants. Named Balanza (Spanish for "balance"), the orange-bronze space hosts heavy metal battle-of-the-bands contests, djs and burlesque shows for half its clientele and pool league tournaments (the home team's trophies line one wall) and live Latin acts for the other. On a typical night, both sides come together to recline on beat-up couches or dangle bottles of Negra Modelo at the painted-mahogany bar. The jukebox is expansive (Marc Anthony and Lynyrd Skynyrd) while the low-priced Mexican beer reflects the idea that some tastes are universal.

NY MAG SAYS: In order to build his seventh location including outposts in L.A., Vegas, and Austin, owner Paul Devitt acquired the fixtures of a Lancaster, Pennsylvania, beauty salon for $1,500 (including the crucial dryer chairs) and hauled them back here, along with some finds from a local flea market. Devitt describes the feel of this larger space (about 1,500 square feet compared to 900 square feet in the East Village) as "more seventies soul, Super Fly." The prices, funny enough, are more in line with the 1996 ones at Beauty Bar’s original location (think $3 to $5 beers, $5 to $7 mixed drinks), and another difference is that “retro finger foods” such as pigs in a blanket are served. Also: Manicures start at 6 p.m.

NY Mag Review: Alongside the Williamsburg Bridge, Bembe is a world apart from its concrete, industrial environs. Inside, the bi-level lounge feels more like Miami or a steamy, fun-loving Latin American hotspot, with a tropical drinks menu—mojitos, rum punch, a tasty vodka concoction marinated in and served from an actual watermelon—and an airy, island-like décor of exposed brick and blonde wood. (The slightly exotic, accented bartenders, both male and female, lend another degree of authenticity.) But more than anything else, it's the sexy, ethnically-diverse crowd dancing (some expertly, some not) to vibrant Latin music, spun by a DJ but sometimes accompanied by live drummers, that really makes you feel like you're on vacation. Be warned: These booty shakers move with an enthusiasm and determination—sans attitude—that's contagious.

Pumpkin-colored walls and eclectic appointments like an I Dream of Jeannie horseshoe-shaped couch and tapestries add to the cozy environment. The vibe is carried to fruition by an adjacent restaurant that prepares 'nouvelle Middle Eastern' fare. Black Betty attracts all walks of life, making it the perfect spot to soak up booze and Brooklyn-by-way-of-Marrakech bohemia alike."

WE SAY: New bars and venues open constantly in this neighborhood--it almost feels like the community board consists of a solitary robot with a giant rubber "Approved" stamp for liquor license applications. To which I say "Huzzah!" because papa needs his sweet, sweet booze. Anyway, today we take a look at a new music venue in Bushwick called Bodega (1089 Broadway), which is run by those hip souls over at Chiefmag. The space holds 300 people and used to be an actual bodega--one which used to sell crack I am told, which goes great with beef patties and Boar's Head turkey sandwiches. Most bands they host are of the Todd P variety, including Japanther, The Death Set, Ninjasonik, etc. Shows are usually in the $5-$6 range, perfect for the club's young, eight-people-to-a-loft crowd. NY MAG SAYS: Despite the fresh paint and free wi-fi, this pub is in truth a Greenpoint relic. Opened in 1928, the bar weathered most of the last century as J & D's before giving up the ghosts (more than one owner has died on the premises) just after the new millennium. A few years later, the owners of East Village bohemian bar Raven pried off the boards to find a diamond in the rough: To the original high tin ceilings and extra-long, dark wood bar, they've added high-backed wooden booths, a pool table, a jukebox and a majestic 12-beer tap that makes it clear that—neon signs and reasonable prices notwithstanding—this is not a dive. When rock bands aren't throwing after-parties, bemused retirees who still call the joint by its former name make neighborly conversation with the latest 24-year-old graphic designer who thinks he knows better. The bar's owner, Harold David Kramer, is himself a slice of NYC history, since he's the grandson of the owners of the Thunderbolt, the beloved, vine-covered Coney Island rollercoaster that was torn down in 2000.

CITY SEARCH SAYS: The Charleston is a tackily appealing, dimly lit room. The ancient bar stretches down the side, and is usually manned by Benny, the proprietor for uncounted decades. A room in the back is cozy, with semicircular booths and soft red lighting. Music from Sinatra's day through the '70s is covered on a jukebox whose seriously old speakers make everything sound a little bit better for being a little bit worse. Benny owns the pizza kitchen next door as well, in case you need something with your beer. Even as Bedford Avenue has become the new Champs-Elysees, the Charleston still holds onto an interesting mix of hip kids and some of the neighborhood's old guard, by which we mean, like, 70-year-old Polish guys. A stage in the back room also plays home to local bands, who have made the Charleston something of a hip venue for up-and-coming art rockers.

NY MAG SAYS: At his day job as a sculptor, owner John Clement renders sinuous shapes in rough industrial materials, but the design touches in his railroad barroom are non-ostentatious: Just a few antlers and antique beer cans adorn the slate-grey walls. A possibly overly generous happy hour special encourages drinkers to be serious about their craft, which they practice at the sidewalk seats during the summer, at the people-watching-perfect window perches, or at the bar where unharried attendants custom cater drinks such as a peanut-butter and jelly shot (Stoli raspberry and Frangelico) and dole out beers from the esoteric and often-changing varieties on tap. Bargain-hunters choose sides between two long-running specials: The Patriot is a PBR can and a shot of Jim Beam while the Federale pairs Tecate with a Sauza shot.

The crème de la crème of Greenpoint's young, thriving Polish population packs the enormous dance floor amidst elaborately choreographed lightshows, neon faux-stained glass windows, and gilt and red velvet everything. Hilton-twin-lookalike cocktail waitresses shimmy to the beat, toting translucent trays full of vodka drinks and bottles of Zywiec. NY MAG SAYS: Over a zebra-striped dance floor, luminous red disks dangle like space mushrooms. Nearby, giant, curving pillars loom up like brontosaurus ribs from behind one of three Plexiglas bars. Clearly this is a place which can summarily prove that Manhattan Avenue--not just the namesake borough--has its decadent, futuristic pleasure domes. Granted, many of the stiletto-heeled girls quaffing mojitos, watching videos imbedded in their tables, and bouncing to the throb of house music are speaking Polish. Yet unlike its nearby rival Club Europa (permanently entrenched by Euro-cheese), Club Exit also caters to a new and different wave of immigrants: those forced north by Williamsburg's rising rents. On Friday nights, outside promoters such as Todd P are inviting noise rock acts and scroungy scamps to experience the slamming sound system and otherworldly decor.

The industrial double doors, concrete floor, and raised loading dock entrance were left untouched by the co-owner, who uses the high-end chocolate in martinis such as the spicy Screaming Mozart, a combination of chili-infused vodka and hot cocoa. In the front room, after-work regulars line the chic metal bar that glows with red candles or gather around one of the polished black zinc tables lit up with embedded light strips. The best seat in the house is a table behind the DJ booth—they spin every Friday and Saturday—that's warmed by a fake fireplace and watched over by a lone piece of kitsch, a porcelain good luck cat. The atmospheric back room provides more seating between turns at the dart board or at the pool table that basks under an enormous and ornate round skylight

L MAG SAYS: Last Friday I ate and drank at Cornichon, a new wine bar/cafe/small plates restaurant on Grand Street in Williamsburg. What they sell is terrific--lovingly presented cheese and meat plates, cheap bottles of good French wines--but the decor made it seem as if they had rushed to open a week before they finished decorating, and then just decided against finishing. The front and back are pretty attractive--lots of pale, neutral greens and blonde wood--but the spacious area in the back (where my friends and I stayed well into the night, and were always the only people there) felt like a spare afterthought, with naked wooden tables, benches, empty dark green walls, and that's it. Right angles and right angles and unset tables. The food was so carefully prepared--the crudite salad arranged with wedges of boiled egg, ruby cherry tomato halves, and slivers of avocado, drizzled delicately with some kind of rich, opaque dressing--that it's mysterious why more consideration hasn't yet gone into making the place more comfortable. But the owners (all French) were sweet and eager to please (they gave us free Champagne and encouraged us to sign the mailing list) that if they softened some of the pointy, lonely edges, I'd happily go back. Especially in the summer, when their lovely back patio opens for warm-weather wine. Like white zinfandel.

NY MAG SAYS: Like a homesteader who finally landed a house on Main Street, the owner of Williamsburg's almost impossibly out-of-the way dive Rockstar Bar has set up a second joint just two blocks from the Bedford Avenue subway stop. Given the prime location, you’d think that this cozy, red-and-brown candy-striped room would teem with the young and fashionable. But Cyn, like its predecessor Rain Lounge, is a chasm in the middle of the swirling hipness that surrounds. Aside from the replacement of the former tenant's hip-hop soundtrack with an internet jukebox and DJ's spinning rock, little has changed. Amidst the dim red lighting and the modest crowds, you come here not because you want to join the see-and-be-seen carnival outside, but because you want to escape it with a $2 Pabst in the spacious back garden

(Sorry, they don't accept Campus Cash.) It’s a great place for prospective market researchers to go on a trend-spotting safari—many experts believe that the vintage-boots-over-jeans thing was born here. With cozy booths and a wide, horseshoe-shaped bar, Daddy’s is nevertheless spacious enough to comfortably support rival cliques...and an Elvis pinball machine. The beer and the liquor selections are limited but for those who overindulge in hard drinking, Daddy's is kind enough to provide hot/tofu dogs to absorb any excess booze.

NY MAG SAYS: Out of the tradition of DIY basement shows and illegal loft parties comes Death By Audio, a utilitarian two-room hall neighboring the Diamond Sugar Refinery on a low-traffic, industrial block in Williamsburg. Community performance spaces pop up (and disappear) constantly, and Death By Audio, a recording studio and gear factory by day, feels barely more established since the setup is deliberately minimal, and transient: a low-level stage flanked by large-scale pieces from a rotating cast of local artists; and a secondary room, often utilized as a dance hall (equipped with a projector for ambient screenings of dystopian seventies flicks and other trippy fare). Lineups of obscure noise-rock dudes or experimental electro German drone-pop come together anywhere between three or four days a week or once a month. Ubiquitous Todd P. often pulls the strings.

CITY SEARCH SAYS: The owners of this Greenpoint bar are pushing the doctrine of "session beers," that is, beer that one can drink multiples of and still win at the shuffleboard table. So, strong ales like the dark bottled Oerbier from Belguim are on the menu alongside lighter tastes like the Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted from Scotland. Beer fans--especially of U.S., Belgium, German and English brews--can make friends at the bar, bring their own to the table seating, or shoot Quiots (NYC-sized horseshoes) in the backyard garden. Why the glittery interior and Van Halen on the juke box? The owners have a penchant for "Diamond" David Lee Roth. Sometimes the bar holds "vintage" tastings, which means that you can taste a 1998 version of a beer alongside its 2006 counterpart.

WE SAY: A small, warm wine bar with delicious cheeses. D.O.C., as you may know, stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata. It's a phrase one often finds on the labels of Italian wines and it means "controlled place name." When one sees D.O.C. on a bottle of wine one's confidence is boosted: it means the wine within comes from a legally defined wine region where producers must watch the quality of their wines lest they face governmental wrath.

NY MAG SAYS: Before becoming the East River Bar in early 2004, this venerable space was an illicit Latino speakeasy, and before that, an underground biker bar. Its first incarnation, though, was as a paint factory, and the giant room retains a great industrial feel, with beautiful pressed-tin ceilings and weathered floorboards. Instead of accentuating such things, though, the owners have opted to camp it up, marring the antique ceiling with a disco ball and shoving a cowboy-themed mirror behind the bar. The result is a comfortable but generic dive, complete with the standard handful of beers on tap, the standard dartboard and pool table, and the standard smell of Murphy's Oil Soap. Some of the barflies are about as stylish and appealing as the broken-down furniture, most of which looks like it was just dredged out of the bars namesake estuary. If the weather's nice, East River Bar justifies its existence by grilling BYOBBQ on the patio. These meaty treats compete with the beefy fumes emanating from nearby Peter Luger's.

WE SAY: Since July 1999, many in the Greenpoint/Williamsburg area have adopted Enid's as a home away from home. From young hipsters to Polish Seniors, laptop junkies to dogs, this spacious bar takes all and is never too crowded. From 5pm -4am, seven days a week, Enid's serves up the sauce with great atmosphere and no pretense-- and at half price during happy hour (5-7). Boasting eight taps, eleven bottled beers, wine, standard liquors, and of course The Harrison-- Enid's house special, loaded with tequila and juices packed into a hefty pint glass-- Enid's leaves no one thirsty. (Unless you drink Coors Light.) Dinner is served nightly, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm Enid's is packed for brunch, offering hearty, home-style plates with a southern twist and weekly pancake specials. DJs spin toward the end of the week, Mondays and Tuesdays host movie nights, and Sunday evenings wind down with Degrassi High up on the screen. A great juke box, Ms Pacman/Galaga, and a photobooth should keep you busy otherwise. So eat brunch, put a couple back, hit the photobooth and send a saucy pic home to mama.

GOTHAMIST SAYS: The first bowling alley to open in Brooklyn in (we can't even believe this) nearly 50 years is about to open up! The Gutter is new...but the feeling old. Brought to you by two of the same people who brought you Barcade, expect a similar vibe. There's a Schlitz globe spinning over the shoe counter, vintage bowling items adorning the bar, old lamps throughout, and even some TVs with rabbit ear antennas.

You won't find flashy flatscreens displaying your scores and advertisements hanging above the lanes. The scoring machines are straight out of the past, and the only advertisements are on the pin clearing machine. Those ads are likely for establishments in a town far far away, however -- as the equipment was all purchased from an old bowling alley in the midwest.

THRILLIST SAYS: The most notable throwback's the price: $6 games ($7 on weekends) and $4 shoes -- which everyone will steal, forcing Gutter to reticently inaugurate this cash-cow of ill repute: "Taking Care of Business Tuesdays (Now With Lasers!)".

GOTHAMIST SAYS: New York City's urban rustic trend keeps on trucking with the newest addition to Greenpoint’s ever-expanding nightlife scene, The Habitat. Housed in an old convenience store and built with lumber salvaged from as far away as Maine, the bar and restaurant will let Brooklynites savor back porch ambiance without having to breathe the air from the nearby sewage treatment plant. The kitchen is located behind what looks to be the exterior wall of a house, and a raised deck seems destined for late-night bluegrass jams. Chef Ashley Engmann, former manager at Park South and cook at Lotus, [prepares] mostly-American small plate menu, though her specialty is said to be her empanadas. A pecan mandarin salad, a twice baked potato, cheeseburgers, sandwiches and other late night snacks are also planned. The yellow pine bar, salvaged from an old mechanic shop, is irreverently topped with cement in the center, and 12 beers, mostly microbrews, will be on tap, as well as wine and spirits.

The largely unpretentious artists of Williamsburg's Italian section are sweet on the place's regional microbrews, among them a well-rounded local selection from the Brooklyn, Six Points and Ommegang breweries. In addition to the 20-seat bar and a number of group tables inside, the back patio stays open all night. Brooklyn beers, which normally go for $4 (a buck less than other pints here), are $3 each from 4pm to 8pm daily. Though beer is the focus, single malts, Irish coffee and hot toddies are a winter signature. Eight wines are served by the glass.

GOTHAMIST SAYS: The aptly titled and recently opened Hope Lounge (it's on Hope Street), might might seem a little too tranquil at first. The enormous red walls are sporadically graced with signs and Indian statues, but if there is a theme, it’s not readily apparent. Right now, it is huge, clean, and spare, which accentuates the high ceilings and abundant seating. With so much space they have enough room to house a regular schedule of live acts, most starting around 9 or 10, in the usual jazz-bluegrass-D.J. vein. You know, something for everyone. he long list of musical acts may tempt you to frequent the hopping night scene, but for the thrifty we’d highly suggest the long happy hour. From 3 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, all drinks are $2 off, which makes thinking of what deal you want especially fun. Sure you could discount that Corona, but aim high and you’ll be rewarded. Specifically, order a glass of Chimay, the populist Trappist beer. It would normally run you $8, which is a find by most Manhattan standards. We’ve seen some places charge more than $12. But during happy hour it is only $6, and they have both the Chimay Rouge and Bleue. The latter of which is about 9% alcohol, twice that of normal beer. So be careful. While you’re lounging on one of the red couches in the huge space thinking about all that money you’re saving, keep tabs on the number of bottles you’re plowing through. Our one left us quickly buzzed, and two will probably get you ready for the evening entertainment. After that, we here at Gothamist release responsibility and just kindly suggest you get some food in your stomach. They have a full menu.

SHECKY'S SAYS: Tired of waiting three hours for that text that reveals you finally scored a table at Milk and Honey? Now that even the most snobbish city dweller knows that Brooklyn has more to offer than dive bars and seedy one night stands, why not head to Williamsburg for your fancy cocktail fix? You'll be kickin' it with a more sophisticated set (i.e., actual cool people) that prefers the Last Word (gin, maraschino, chartreuse, and lime, $9) to a watered down whiskey. NY MAG SAYS: At last: an Irish-like pub for people who generally hate Irish-like pubs, Iona's sprightly young staff (and their accents) couldn't be more appealing; they want you to pick your favorite wooden bench and stay a while. Inside this former candy store things are dim and spare, and don't expect to see gimmicky leprechaun figures or posters bearing limericks. Instead, you'll hear drum-and-bass mixes or classic rock--and not too loud, either. A little back alcove is perfect for late-night snogging, and the fact that the bar's not filled with lecherous old Irishmen pawing every female in sight is a blessing. That tradition is being kept alive instead by the neighborhood hipster boys.

VILLAGE VOICE SAYS: Best Bar In Brooklyn For Great Whisk(e)ys At Reasonable Prices - Kings County
Tourists: They are the bane of New Yorkers' existence, clogging the sidewalks and subways, babbling at top volume about some Broadway behemoth no true city dweller (native or longtime transplant) would ever want to see. But not all visitors to our fair island are so oblivious to what makes New York truly fab. Recently a music industry pal visiting from London wanted to meet up in a "real New York bar" as he'd grown weary of the usual Manhattan hipster showplaces. So I took him to Kings County, the pride of bright young Bushwick. Tucked away behind a door of artfully rusted metal, this tiny, gorgeous neighborhood bar offers a connoisseur's selection of Scotch and Irish imports, high-end domestic bourbons ($5- $7 a shot), as well as a great selection of beers (Chimay Blue, Bud, and Guinness). Add to this a tasty mixed crowd of attractive locals, a respectable jukebox, and Chops--the tattooed and bewhiskered biker-esque artist-proprietor who designed and built his bar as an oasis of love and culture in the post-industrial wasteland of East Nowhere—and you're home free.

The owners play an unobtrusive mix of Pavement, Gorillaz, and Bowie off their iPods, and there's a glassed-in, elevated smoking lounge out back for a quiet cigarette and a Laphroaig on the rocks. It's a candlelit oasis where you can talk Foucault without ever being asked if he played Bowery Ballroom last week.

NY MAG SAYS: It's no surprise Jeff Wells, the overseer of this long, narrow brick-walled room, is a veteran beer supplier and aficionado: He keeps 10 brews on tap and 100 in bottles -- most of them in coolers for takeout, should you be inspired to tote away a Scottish pale ale like Bitter & Twisted; a tart, cherry-flavored Belgian beer like Liefmans Kriek; or a smooth, nutty dark ale like Rogue HazelNut Brown Nectar. The scarcity of tables near the wide-open front windows means most imbibers gather around the long bar, made from the wood of bowling lanes once housed in a Queens Elks lodge. GOTHAMIST SAYS: A couple blocks from the Grand Avenue L station, Lock Inn is recognizable for not being an auto body shop or construction company- that and the oversized wrought iron key on the door. Inside, the keys are all over the place, hanging on the exposed brick wall, most notably near the chastity belt above the menu. The bar is comfortable and the tables built into the walls have Scrabble and chess boards encouraging people to linger, and when we visited there was a small child and a dog at the tables in addition to construction workers and students. In the back there is a good jukebox and a pool table, opposite pretty memorable bathrooms lined with crossword puzzles and lit by refurbished Jack Daniels bottles. Under the AC a heavy door leads to a large garden with tables, grape vines and, weather permitting, barbeque, a welcome addition to the bar snacks of barbeque potato chips, orange cheese doodles and microwave popcorn. Weekdays from 4-8, the happy hour gives patrons $2 house "just beer" (read: Bud Lite), $1 off every other beer making the most expensive choice $4. The bar has the usual suspects and other choices like Blackthorne cider in line with owner Lisa Buono's Anglophile aesthetic (in the U.K. the bar's name is a term for an after-hours location). Converted from a scooter shop, it is surprisingly easy to get comfortable at the bar and settle in.

Lost & Found shares co-owners with nearby Capone’s and Alligator Lounge, but in lieu of the free pizza that made those bars such hits there are greasy bar snacks for sale like hot dogs. In addition to a pool table and several arcade games located on the first balcony, two antique but mostly functional Skee-Ball machines compensate for the standard-issue selection of beers on tap; D.J.s spinning from a perch on the uppermost balcony make the generic array of albums in the jukebox a matter of indifference.

The Cat acts like a very hip neighborhood community center, hosting everything from a weekly chess tournament to a Goth dance night. The events, listed on its website, are as free-form as the clientele. Stop by midday and enjoy the eclectic setting and homey touches: Flying angels hanging from the ceiling and servings of beans or stew from the crock pot.

NY MAG SAYS: Those familiar with the stereotypical Williamsburg bar-goer will be shocked upon crossing the bouncer-guarded threshold of this oddball basement karaoke lounge. Instead of waifish, college-aged rockers ironically impersonating Axl Rose, older, leather-jacketed Goodfellas extras, perhaps attracted by the low-key atmosphere and Brooklyn prices, belt earnest renditions of their favorite Sinatra and Frankie Valli tunes, their courage lubricated by vaguely Polynesian cocktails such as a banana daiquiri that tastes uncannily like a Runt candy. Among the 1,000 songs lies plenty of non-grandpa fare, too, but don't expect a kitschy birthday party spot: While the comfy pleather banquettes and long backlit bar are vaguely glam, the neon track lighting and polka-dotted pillars add a seedy veneer that isn't quite bad enough to be good.

NY MAG SAYS: The preserved "Shocks & Struts" sign outside this classy Greenpoint joint has become a neighborhood beacon. Narrower and darker than Enid's (across the street), this former auto shop feels more like a refuge for Greenpointers who find an extensive beer list (including 16 on draft) more impressive than a full evening of listening to Badly Drawn Boy's oeuvre. The back den of booths contains a Foosball table, a side room features impressive canvasses from local artists, and the gorgeous, amoeba-shaped copper bar in the center hosts old men of dubious sanity staring at post-collegiate girls deep into meditations on spirituality. Matchless needs more time to cement its identity, but an increase in bookings of local bands could call into question locals' allegiance to the bar on the opposite corner. What's more, the owner has already gotten in a street fight with high-schoolers on PCP, which in this neighborhood counts as an initiation ritual.

It has the unique distinction of being the first gay bar in Williamsburg (Fun is the other) creating a much needed space for the gay contingent of the neighborhood's arty/hipster set. BROOKLYN PAPER SAYS: On a recent Monday night, Williamsburg's newest sports bar was packed. Everyone in Mulholland's had one thing in common: a thirst for free beer. Free beer may, in fact, be the only explanation for beefy fraternity types in football jerseys and the neighborhood's trademarked bespectacled hipster to be mingling; when I returned the following Wednesday, the bar had lost the grandeur of its opening and was nearly empty. Far from the energetic nightspots that Billyburg is known for, Mulholland's felt more like a bar in a strip mall. But Sean Mulholland, who owns the watering hole along with his brother Bill, insisted that the neighborhood's chic, young residents are really "closet sports fans." The Mulholland brothers spent years working in bars, clubs and restaurants -- most recently Eugene, a glossy lounge in Manhattan -- and had been looking to buy their own spot for the past two years. Although they initially looked at Manhattan's Lower East Side, Williamsburg's cheaper rents and less commercial vibe won them over. "We just fell in love with the neighborhood," said Sean. "It's like a small town -- everyone's really sweet. It's almost like there's a Midwest feel, which we think is awesome!" Local residents might quibble with his assertion that they're akin to Midwesterners, but the Grand Street corridor is quickly becoming more high-end, and therefore more open to a wider variety of nightlife options. NY MAG SAYS: Bowery Presents, the bookers behind Webster Hall and Bowery Ballroom, have expanded their indie empire again with the rebirth and renaming of the former Northsix. The fancy face-lift stretches the space from two to three levels (with bars to match), adds balcony seating, and reshapes the interior via a curved wall for optimized acoustics. With the removal of the steel columns, sightlines were also markedly improved. And as if the cosmetic modifications weren't enough, the inaugural lineup put the previous incarnation's schedule to shame; Top notch indie acts and veteran critical faves look sure to pack the house while a gamut of great, on-the-verge bands should solidify the rep on the street.

NEW YORK MAG SAYS: With its smattering of tapas, meze, and kebabs, My Moon's menu leans on Mediterranean cuisine with a Turkish slant. But the food's not the draw at this festive, 250-seat neighborhood haunt, where architecture takes pride of place. Set in a converted factory, My Moon retains the original space's sky-high ceilings and exposed-wood beams, then tucks its booths into authentic boilers that solidify its organic, industrial chic. Aside from a few contrived embellishments, like indoor trees, trickling fountains, and whirring Casablanca ceiling fans, it works. The restaurant also lends its exposed-brick walls to rotating art exhibits. Late night, the party moves into an adjacent D.J.-outfitted lounge adjacent to the main room. In season, the spacious, outdoor dining deck is quite an enticement all its own. Extras: Turkish pastrami and Mediterranean kebabs spiff up traditional breakfast and brunch fare at My Moon, which also rents its lounge for gatherings of up to 40. NY PRESS SAYS: There is a smattering of tapas joints amid the ever-expanding dining landscape of Williamsburg, and most of them feel about as authentic as the infamous "loft-style" luxury apartment buildings that have been popping up in the neighborhood even more rapidly than restaurants. That changed three months ago, when Nita Nita, a tapas bar actually worth venturing into, opened its doors. Plate-glass storefront windows and a yawning set of doors reveal a candlelit interior with warm tones and clean lines that don't try too hard. Nita Nita's menu is Spanish-inspired and eclectic and the recipe list, like the decor, is pared-down. And with a short but appealing selection of wine, food and cocktails, patrons feel like they've stepped into the local bar they've always looked for, but classier, and with a delicate buttery scent calling to them from the kitchen. The cozy interior of Nita Nita was the perfect spot for dinner one rainy summer night since the place never feels too crowded, but there are always just enough people chatting with owner Samantha Di Stefano, or petting the part-time resident dog for you to feel welcome....An alcove behind the kitchen offers more seating, a well-stocked jukebox and a door to the back garden, which, while we visited, was being steadily drummed by rain. Although Nita Nita's mixed drink specials ($10 each), including the Tequila Mockingbird and Ginger Rummy, are the most innovative part of the menu, an insidious hangover prevented me from diving into the cocktail options. However, compelled by my duty as a responsible journalist, I returned the following night to try the Barton Pear, an insanely good combination of Grey Goose Lapoire, fresh pineapple and orange juice, seven up and a few other ingredients I failed to note as the drink went to work on my short-term memory. We started with an appetizer special of brie on a toasted baguette alongside a roasted leek soup ($10). The soup smelled great, but turned out to be somewhat bland, though inoffensive, sprinkled with refreshing parsley to give it a little kick. The bread was fresh and flaky, and the brie warm—the perfect addition. Next, we ordered the sauteed greens and shaved parm ($5) next, and got exactly what you'd want from this simple dish. Chopped collards were cooked in butter just long enough to take the edge off the bitter vegetable, release its flavor and keep a crisp freshness intact. Unfortunately, the Mojo potatoes ($5) were disappointing, drenched as they were in a peppery red sauce, but oddly lacking in spice. A salad of cranberries, sliced almonds and feta dressing over pedestrian mixed greens ($6 special, price varies) is a fresh and satisfying, if not massively original, flavor combination. My friend had the Mojo chicken ($7) next: three drumsticks nestled together with a cucumber dipping sauce on a white porcelain plate. The meat was tender, and fell off the bone easily, with a slight spiciness nicely complemented by the cool cucumber. Meanwhile, I inhaled the Cheese Board ($12), a delightfully stinky mix including a sharp aged Gouda that I could taste in the back of my mouth, complimented by apple slices and quince paste. The bar pizza ($6) is a light, cheesy take on Turkish-style pitza, with fresh mozzarella and just enough sauce drizzled over a nicely crisp flatbread. We finished off our meal by sharing a chocolate chip cookie ($2)--after such girl-centric conversation we chose to further the stereotype by daintily considering our figures. The dessert was phenomenal. Though it tasted like almost pure sugar, its gooeyness and melt-in-your mouth perfection was like some long-forgotten childhood memory.

VILLAGE VOICE SAYS: On a near-desolate street in north Williamsburg, a noncultural renaissance has begun. Till recently, the signs of gentrification on this block consisted of a cheese shop, a hookah bar, and a Mexican fast food restaurant opposite graffitied trailers and abandoned lots. But when Oulu (170 North 4th Street, Brooklyn) opened a month ago, hipsters finally entered their promised land and became old school. The lounge, named for the northern Finnish city, introduces us to what the owners call "Williamsburg 2.0," a neighborhood of creative professionals, dwellers of the future luxury condos sprouting up along North 4th Street. The crumbling landscape may once have been dangerous for some, charming for others; to the new kids on the block, it's their Manifest Destiny. Oulu's name and elements of its design were inspired by the sixth largest city in Finland--a place the owners, married couple Ande Bordages and Anthony Pace, have never been. Pace dreamed of honeymooning off the beaten path and discovered Oulu in his research. But he and Bordages used their trip money to open their own version in Brooklyn instead. The West Village-based couple describes Williamsburg 2.0 in terms of pioneers and settlers. "Pioneers get shot," said Pace, "but settlers get land." Based on Pace's idea of a "super-modern river cottage," the airy lounge gets its woodsiness from smooth, tree-trunk-length benches and curved wall-mounted tables, and its greenery from the delightful "vertical garden" of succulents mounted upon the façade. A blown-up photograph of a serene forest lake and cabin adorns the wall nearest the bar, transporting patrons--graphic designers, architects, and other well-off freelancers--to peaceful, far-away environs with nary a wireless connection. The deeply considered natural elements complement the bare, dim bulbs, concrete floor, and the massive glass garage door that gives insiders a view of the remains of 4th Street's wilderness. The relationship to the city of Oulu ends with the physical space. The owners are adamant their inspiration not be a theme that can become mired in kitsch (in contrast to those hipsters who came to Williamsburg 1.0 embracing kitsch). There is just one Finnish beer (Sinebrychoff, $6), and while some cocktails have Nordic names, they are local creations by the thoughtful bar staff. At $9 each, standouts include the Victorian Cocktail, a concoction of gin, Earl Grey tea, and apple juice, and the Frostbite, a curious combination of pineapple juice and mint in a vodka martini. Wines ($7 a glass) and domestic beers (from $5) round out the menu. Plans for a "Sunday Bloody Mary Sunday" liquid brunch are in the works. On a midweek night, the crowd at Oulu was thin, the indie rock and lounge music low enough to let the patrons talk about design or art or $500,000 studios over a drink. Saturdays feature DJs playing rock, indie, and "esoterica," drawing growing numbers of the new locals--those brave, intrepid colonists who have come to tame wild, wild Williamsburg.

NY MAG SAYS: Ever wonder where the headbangers from Heavy Metal Parking Lot are now hanging out? You’ll find a few of them drinking cheap domestics at the giant horseshoe bar of this tavern—family-owned since 1933. Live bands no longer play here as they did for a spell, but Pantera and Nugent are still on the jukebox and somehow the resultant soundtrack doesn’t clash with the well-worn Tudor setting with its castle-like wooden door opening onto an airy front room of electric candelabras, stained-glass windows, and stucco ceilings crossed by wooden beams. The back room, once catering to diners but now used exclusively for private parties, takes it up a notch via velvet curtains, banquet tables, floral paintings, and a non-functioning fireplace; starchy meat and potatoes dishes solidify the rustic feel. Of course, no one comes to admire the architecture, but to catch up on neighborhood gossip, play Galaga, and turn it up, dude.

Housed in a former 40s soda parlor with a "dicey" back room, Pete’s bears all the scars of its pockmarked past. NY MAG SAYS: "In any other location, the industrial-sized, pine-planked Redd's would be hopping on a Friday night, its plush couches and lantern-lit patio filled with groups of drinkers. Apparently it takes a little more of a gimmick—like Barcade's trove of vintage video games or Royal Oak's college-age sleaze—to earn the attention of Williamsburg bar-goers. But what Redd's lacks in novelty it makes up for in comfort: A stack of wax-paper bags waits to be filled with gratis popcorn, and the classic-rock jukebox, spiked with Sonic Youth and Elvis Costello, treads on pleasantly familiar ground. In the winter, bartenders heat up toddies and apple cider on hot plates. Next to a red, illuminated Esso gas pump, a makeshift stage hosts the occasional jazz band or singer-songwriter, and the bar has an accommodating booking policy toward eager acts. Of course, the lack of a crowd affords an opportunity, too: Curl up with a few friends and a pint of Summer Blue Point, and lounge like you own the place."

CITY SEARCH SAYS: Despite the fact that it's located right under the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, a long mahogany bar, wainscot wood paneling, wooden slat blinds, sconce lighting, old-fashioned cash registers, gold brocade wallpaper, and a soundtrack of mostly pre-1969 American classics provide a romantic backdrop. It's a pleasant alternative to the otherwise uber-cool Williamsburg bar scene. The $9 specialty cocktails, served up by friendly mixologists, are reasonably priced and extremely tasty. High-back bar stools make for a more comfortable drinking experience. The Richardson has a great selection of wines, liquors and frothy German and American beers on tap. Although the marble-painted stucco columns that separate the long angular bar are designed to create a more intimate vibe, the space still feels a bit too large. Grilled sandwiches and other light fare is served between the hours of 1pm and 2am daily.

NY MAG SAYS: Once an industrial space, this high-ceilinged room now feels more like a social club, with its creamy wainscoting, low lighting, and small tables clustered around a central bar. By day, the neighborhood freelance brigade settles in with laptops and books; at night, twentysomethings slide into the benches to share stories and plates of slightly old-fashioned comfort food. (People-watching is an indoor sport here, since the restaurant is several steps above ground level and there aren’t any large windows facing the street.) Some menu choices are simple to the point of tedium, like the cucumber-vinaigrette salad. A better bet is the tangy, crisply topped macaroni and cheese. (Spring for the optional bacon and the oozing dish gets crowned with richly marbled strips.) The bratwursts--both traditional and vegetarian--also hit the mark, with plump, juicy sausages and sauerkraut overflowing the buns. The namesake teas are here in force, with dozens of brews including mate, greens, and bracing British blacks. These come in large glass beer mugs, so watch out for that heat conductivity.

CITY SEARCH SAYS: Follow the pink neon light to find Rose, the first live music venue to land on Williamsburg's Grand Street stretch. The owner has personalized the space with familial touches--his grandmother's patterened chintz and sepia-toned wallpaper, shipped from Europe, dresses up a dark wood room filled with the usual booths. The mostly admission-free performances pull from the world over--see Latin jazz, tango and Afro-beat shows, and sometimes a set from a local DJ.

NY MAG SAYS: Big, round, shiny tables line the walls at Savalas, echoing the shapes of the owner cousins' bald pates. (The name is a nod to the celebrity they most resemble.) Also round and shiny are the new wave and indie rock records spun by an impressive roster of DJs with the help of a cutting-edge sound system. Groovy tiled walls, hand blown-glass emitting red light, and plenty of open floor space make this smallish room feel like a miniature club: In the early evening, it can feel a bit too petite, but late at night, the cheery, not-aggressively-hip crowd most certainly gets down, at which point an awning-protected front porch provides refuge. At the bar, vodkas flavored with seasonal ingredients along with the occasional experimental touch are an enticing alternative to the solid selection of tap beer, except when the infusions are ill-conceived: Oreo-infused martini, anyone?

GOTHAMIST SAYS: The beautifully lit storefront bar comes from a longtime New Yorker and bartender Matt Webber (most recently of The Cutting Room). Because Webber isn't Chris Noth, he hasn't brought beautiful blondes behind the bar (yet) and is doing everything himself, from fresh juices to choosing the art (hint: look carefully at the provenance of the reclining nude near the front door). "Why a piano bar, though?" we asked. Because, he said, he wanted something that hipsters wouldn't be into. Okay. While his candor is refreshing, on one side of us was a cute, skinny guy showing off his star tattoo and on another a girl who looked like a Scarlett Johansson circa her mullet fascination. We wonder what these cute kids could be called disparagingly instead of hipsters. Soft Spot is close to the Bedford L train stop but unlike many of the bars and restaurants that price drinks like they are really still in Manhattan, the cocktails here top out around $7. With fresh pomegranate juice and orange slices, the pomegranate margarita was a good choice, especially for sipping in the beautiful back garden, and strong and our friend opted for a house special, the Soft Peach. The bar was offering two options- one for $6 or 2 for $10, clearly working on a similar principle of the 4-8pm happy hour (2 for 1 on all beer, most $4). And the Soft Peach, with Absolute Peach, Triple Sec and a "secret" lemon lime sour mix does go down easy, so much that we wonder if the 2 for $10 should be changed to give us a twenty and we'll give you a pitcher, though you won't be able to walk far when it's empty. Our friend thought the special tasted like "like homemade peach ice cream but not sweet" but it just tasted like summer to us. The place can serve a good drink under good lighting and employs a good piano player (though billing him a starving artist and actually having the tip jar foisted upon everyone at the bar is a little much). Check it out while there is still prime garden drinking time and enjoy the drinks, however they were conceived.

ABOUT SOUNDFIX: Sound Fix has officially reopened its beloved lounge and music space, the site of many memorable shows over the years, including Beirut, Will Oldham, the Hold Steady, The National, the Mountain Goats, Jens Lekman, Art Brut and many other great bands and artists.... Monday night parties featuring midnight sales on Tuesday's big new releases will become a unique and regular affair, and a music trivia night will be a weekly happening, with prizes like gift certificates to the record store and exclusive music giveaways... The Sound Fix Lounge has been given a complete makeover, top to bottom, with a new fully stocked bar, elevated stage, high-quality sound system, ambiance lighting, polished furniture and lavish decor. Plans for this improved space include not only live music events but also readings, theater, film screenings, game nights, comedy, private parties and more. For years, the Sound Fix record shop has worked in collaboration with the neighboring Fix Café. Earlier this year, Sound Fix bought out the café and has been working on uniting the two spaces like never before. Now it is truly one venue, a record store attached to a comfortable, spacious lounge that serves coffee and waffles (our specialty) during the day and offers a full bar at night, offering $2 PBRs around the clock and competitive prices on well and top-shelf liquor.

L MAGAZINE SAYS: "South 4th Bar and Café is not a trans-borough destination bar. It may not even be the kind of place where you'd want to have a birthday party or special occasion, even if you lived next door -- it is, however, a nearly perfect spot to spend time by yourself... An inconspicuous corner bar on a quiet block, South 4th doubles as an early morning coffee place, ideal for playing hangover hooky from work (especially when it's a hangover you earned at the very same barstool, only eight hours previous); as with everything else about South 4th, the coffee is not flashy, but is very good. And that’s just it about this place -- unlike numerous other bars that have opened in Williamsburg in the last five years, South 4th doesn’t expect anything from its clientele, it doesn’t have a hook. You don’t have to be particularly fashionable, you don’t need to be knowledgeable about music or beer or wine -- you can just relax and go about your business. In this respect, South 4th is a lot like a French café, serving the needs of its locals from seven in the morning all the way to last call in the wee hours. As for the details, they are easy to recount: a surprisingly good selection of beers on tap includes Belgian standout Three Philosphers (a dark, fruity pleasure), O’Hara’s Stout, Duck Ale, and, curiously, Molson Canadian.

WE SAY: If you’re lucky enough to be seated in one of the dark mahogany booths, scavenged by Spike Hill co-owner, Tom Schmitz, you’ll find the perfect refuge from the packs swelling outside on Bedford Avenue. The bar in the front offers twelve rotating draft beers and a healthy selection of scotch. Inexpensive dishes range from traditional pub fare like Fish & Chips to neo-American comfort dishes like Blue Point Oyster Po’ Boys with chipotle lime mayonnaise.

While the Thursday night open-mike musician set up his microphone, appetites were whet with a Kielbasa starter -- the one hat-tip to the neighborhoods’ previous settlers. The Buffalo Wings were average and the Oyster Po' Boy was more fry than oyster. You're best served if you think of the joint as a watering hole where carnivores and pescetarians can nurse a hangover or take a preventative approach to drinking by laying down a greasy base. while imbibing.

When the check arrived there was a whistle of shock and delight. Though not officially on the menu, the majority of the table had ordered the Spike Hill Burger. The dangerously low price of $2.75 per burger was responsible for the impossibly cheap bill.

Fridays throughout the summer, Spike Hill is offering $1 Blue Point oysters and Little Neck Clams between 5-8 PM.

CITY GUIDE SAYS:"A few subway stops east of the big Bedford Ave. scene in Williamsburg, you'll find this boxy hangout, happily flying below the radar. Named after that pesky rouge ring many a wine glass has left behind, Stain is drenched in the wine color palette, with maroon walls and dark pink and red plush couches strewn about. Wine selections chosen from a surprisingly short list of regional vintages are served in stemless glassware. A small stage graces the back of the room, the old lamp and chair make it look like a set piece waiting for some action. And it does get action, in the form of weekly open mic nights, live music including jazz, and the occasional costume contest. The garden space out back looks like the rare New York backyard: no landscaping, just a few chairs and the occasional random piece of art in the unruly yard."

NY TIMES SAYS: Formerly a Polish dance hall, Studio B is now home to people who want to look Shrimptonesque -- or at the very least, retro... Studio B has a lot of features that are local rarities, among them a brightly illuminated sign, large bathrooms, and a V.I.P. room with leather couches. Nice, clean leather couches. And unlike its neighbors, Studio B comes with a night life pedigree: the D.J. Justine D. is the creative director, and Todd P., a well-regarded indie music promoter, will book some acts. The proprietors also own the Delancey on the Lower East Side and Studio A, a hipster rock nightclub in downtown Miami...."It's like the worst imitation of the 80's," said Bert Kietzerow, 39, a hairstylist who lives in Williamsburg. Mostly, though, the retro vibe fits. "It's not slick or fancy, it's cheesy," said Leslie Hermelin, 27, a music publicist. It's also enormous (9,500 square feet). At 1 a.m., when the Belgian D.J.'s Soulwax took the stage, the club was jammed, the dance floor a sea of pumping fists and flashing camera phones. Even Mr. Kietzerow succumbed to the beat and the fog. "That smoke machine is so lame," Ms. Hermelin said, "it's cool."

Moody strains of disco house tunes lure fashion students inside to show off their hemlines, while tattooed bar-boys in hot pants do Red Stripe honors. A hand-carved saloon-style bar and outdoor smoking deck caked in graffiti (both relics from former tenant, the late dive Capone's) give the feel of a well-worn neighborhood hangout, but Sugarland's agenda is more ambitious: its art performances and celebrity DJs are drawing downtown luminaries and club kids from across the pond.

NY MAG SAYS: "A visit to this out-of-the-way Greenpoint dive can go two ways. Scenario one: you step through clusters of bands smoking in front of their beat-up tour vans just to get to the door and squeeze through a crowd of messy-haired college radio DJs and girls in slouchy boots to get to the fluorescent-lit bar. After stopping by the grim bathroom to stuff a handful of toilet paper in your ears you push through the saloon-style swinging doors into a stageless back room where, under a pulsating lightshow apparently stolen from a middle school dance, you’ll come face-to-glistening-face with some thundering rock outfit. Scenario two: A man with a deeply creased face will slowly pull his gaze away from the television set and, out of politeness to the only other person in the bar, invite you to a game of pool. Scenemaking rock promoter Todd P.--who started booking some of Brooklyn's best underground shows a few times a week at this three-decade-old bar--is the difference. They also have a great backyard which is open during the warmer months. It tends to get a bit crowded when the garden is closed in the winter.

CITY SEARCH SAYS: This dive bar, named after the departed painter and the owner's now-defunct rock band, is the sort of place where $2 cans of PBR are the drink du jour and the day's sports game flickers on a projector screen. Metal tables decorated with sunflowers line the exposed brick wall, while Polaroids of regulars--a crowd of hipsters and local Joes--dot the opposite orange wall. Anything goes at Wednesday's open mic and on the weekends' live music stage.

CITY SEARCH SAYS: The sweet smell of cigar smoke lures patrons down a desolate industrial stretch and into a sophisticated change of scenery. Amid deep burgundy hues, exposed brick walls and dark wood cases, gentlemanly aficionados and novices alike burn down the lounge's own line of hand-rolled and aged cigars, which are prominently displayed around the bar. Between conversations from plush velvet sofas and barstools, clients can also quaff bottled beers, wines and vintage ports.

WE SAY: A sizable, nifty Mexican restaurant with a small bar up front whose visitors can be seen spilling out onto the sidewalk through the open storefront. This is one of the burgs older restaurants and has the best frozen margaritas in Williamsburg. The food is strangely inconsistent, ranging from fabulous to mediocre. (Bonita is much tastier) We recommend the quesadillas and the specials. Thats said, Vera Cruz is pretty darn good compared to most Mexican places in this city and the margaritas and yummy salsa make it all worthwhile.

NY MAG SAYS: "An integral part of the city's music scene, Warsaw (located inside the Polish National Home, in Williamsburg) has played host to outré newcomers (Le Tigre, the New Pornographers), as well as still-relevant favorites (Patti Smith). It's a discerning balance that most clubs--with their unsubstantial underground acts or museum-worthy oldies bands--fail to achieve. Warsaw's high ceilings, good sight lines, and clear sound make the venue one of the city's premier nightlife destinations--in any borough."

VILLAGE VOICE SAYS: Wreck Room is a newer addition to Bushwick, situated conveniently across the street from neighborhood favorite Life Café. A steady roster of great DJs, kindly-priced beers, pool tables and the Playboy pinball machine are the pulls here, but what really distinguishes Wreck Room is the décor: tail lights from four or five cars hang from the wall as decoration, and the "booths" are actually four car seats lined up around table, with Lincoln sar lettering mounted on the wall above.

CITY SEARCH SAYS: This spacious bar has all the neighborhood-hangout amenities (pool table, darts, 12 beers on tap) with tasteful touches that make it extra-inviting. Owner Ari Zablozki brought in the mahogany bar from upstate and signed on lighting designer and pal Sean Gulette (the actor from "Pi") to set off the room with subtle, half-lampshade sconces and study-like table fixtures. Zablozki, who shares an easy rapport with his customers, also comes through with low drink prices.

NY MAG SAYS: Only a few blocks from the art-school monoculture of Bedford Avenue, Zebulon Cafe Concert is a dark, glittering, entirely different world—an authentically bohemian boite better suited to the Boulevard St. Germaine. Under dim streetlamp-style globes, a casual, congenial, international crowd snacks on crisp panini and avocat vinaigrette while toasting at tables with a glass of Lillet or one of the reasonable reds from the Tarif des Consommations. The small, L-shaped room's décor includes an antique tin ceiling and dark mirror behind the bar, set off by old LP covers and posters of Miles, Monk, and Mingus—complementing the main event, nightly jazz or world music on the undersized stage. Owned by two Gallic music lovers who spin vinyl rarities from their own collection between sets, Zebulon never charges a cover or a minimum for a serious roster of artists that has included saxophonist Ravi Coltrane and cornetist Graham Haynes, plus salsa, zydeco and Afro-Brazilian musicians. Instead, a tip basket winds its way across the tiny, packed dance floor as revelers finish their rounds and decide to stay for the late set.

CITY SEARCH SAYS: Saffron-colored walls, arched windows, textured tiling, comfy booths and a relaxed, convivial buzz set the tone in both the bar and small dining room. Service knows what to recommend and the dishes arrive at the perfect pace. Though the spot takes its name from a popular Spanish cartoon, Chef Diego Gonzales's cooking is serious. Just when you think you've found a favorite, a new dish arrives to wow your palate: light and moist egg-potato combo of tortilla Espanola or crispy, melty ham and bechamel croquettes, or potato chunks in an intensely layered romesco sauce. Seafood comes off just as well, with a smoky blend of garlic, white wine, pepper and parsley lending a stewy depth to shrimp, and paprika brightening tender chunks of octopus. No dessert is offered; all the better, however, to finish off your Albarino with the first-rate platter of Spanish cheeses.
