WE SAY: A small, warm wine bar with delicious cheeses. D.O.C., as you may know, stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata. It's a phrase one often finds on the labels of Italian wines and it means "controlled place name." When one sees D.O.C. on a bottle of wine one's confidence is boosted: it means the wine within comes from a legally defined wine region where producers must watch the quality of their wines lest they face governmental wrath.

From NY Mag: The wine at this rustic Williamsburg enoteca with a Sardinian slant flows like Rheingold at a frat party. Which might explain why the ebullient, mostly Italian crowd is hugging and chain-toasting one another late into the night. For sustenance, try piquant honey-drizzled sheep's-milk cheese paired with a Sardinian red Cannonau served in a two-ounce glass called a marzianetto, or a delicious pressed panino on crusty Sullivan Street ciabatta.
From Paper
"Neatly tucked into a corner near Williamsburg's waterfront, D.O.C. is the antithesis of all the SEAs and Planet Thailands that are becoming too bloody common around Williamsburg. Instead, the owners have created a warm atmosphere with cream-colored walls and wood tables meant to be shared with other customers and a menu consisting mostly of cheese, panini and, of course, delicious Italian wines. Don't be surprised if, after a couple of glasses of Sangiovese, you find yourself talking to the people at the next table about the virtues of stinky cheese -- that's the idea."
From Village Voice
"Offering a quality array of moderately priced Italian wines, D.O.C. relaxes guests with its laid-back, intimate atmosphere. The bar's pastoral decor, including a wooden picnic table, fits well with the Sardinian fare (traditionally eaten by shepherds) of flatbread, cheeses, and porks. A smart place for a third date."
From City Search:
"Dim lighting, rustic wood tables and endearing details, like hand-printed menus held together with wooden spoons, invite intimacy at this cozy Sardinian wine bar. Small groups of friends and romantic couples find comfort in the restaurant's down-to-earth air and bustling pace. It's heaven for bread, cheese and cured-meat lovers. Assorted platters offer a chance to nibble on antipasti and salami; add a fresh salad of arugula, Parmesan and shaved fennel to contrast. Don't miss crostoni topped with chicken liver paté. The tiramisu just might restore your faith in this ubiquitous dessert."
