NY MAG SAYS: Those familiar with the stereotypical Williamsburg bar-goer will be shocked upon crossing the bouncer-guarded threshold of this oddball basement karaoke lounge. Instead of waifish, college-aged rockers ironically impersonating Axl Rose, older, leather-jacketed Goodfellas extras, perhaps attracted by the low-key atmosphere and Brooklyn prices, belt earnest renditions of their favorite Sinatra and Frankie Valli tunes, their courage lubricated by vaguely Polynesian cocktails such as a banana daiquiri that tastes uncannily like a Runt candy. Among the 1,000 songs lies plenty of non-grandpa fare, too, but don't expect a kitschy birthday party spot: While the comfy pleather banquettes and long backlit bar are vaguely glam, the neon track lighting and polka-dotted pillars add a seedy veneer that isn't quite bad enough to be good.

From Shecky's
"Tucked away in the basement of a Peruvian/Vietnamese restaurant, LuLu Lounge is currently Williamsburg's only regular karaoke venue. Thursday through Saturday nights, you can find a good mix of local hipsters and reverse Bridge and Tunnel types (Manhattanites) crooning along to over 10,000 songs against a backdrop of four large-screen TVs. A scaled-down version of the full menu available upstairs keeps wannabe Britneys and Justins from getting too tipsy at the moderately priced bar, and the "proper attire required" sign posted at the bottom of the stairs leading into the lounge keeps the wannabe Sids and Nancys out altogether. If you're a tone-deaf introvert, or just more of a spectator, try the live comedy on Monday nights instead ($6 cover includes a free drink at the bar)."

Horrible place. Waited hours to hear our songs, and spent those hours watching the staff and the same people sing over and over. A party of 10 buying lots of drinks deserves better. Plus, someone STOLE my friend's bday gift. Lame-o & mad ghetto. I would never go back or recommend.

Their song selections are so up to date... and i like the idea of singing without a stage...

Everytime i've been there i've had a blast... it can get kind of crowded at times get there early to get a spot at the bar or lounge...

Lu Lu Lounge is a great place to go. Everyone is friendly and you can sing your heart out and you wont feel embarrassed because people actually cheer you on when you suck in a good way lol.
I had my birthday party there and lu lu lounge never lets me down

Not only did we wait hours for songs that never came up, we saw the number for one come up on the screen only to be erased and replaced with someone else's. Boo.

I had a greatt time when i went with my co-workers. The environment is so relaxing i loved it. I'm going again after work this Friday with my co-workers.

Lulu lounge is okay if you are part of the staff because they do not give you an opportunity to sing I had to wait almost five hours before I sang and I was there since 9pm and the same people were singing song after song which I found very unfair and of course the staff sing song after song they do not give other people and opportunity to sing I will never go there againn it is horrible.

I loved the place..the people were very friendly. It was my first time singing and every one made me feel like a rock star.

Buy some drinks and get free karaoke? Why not? I wouldn't make this my regular spot... bathrooms are shit, stairs beg for a lawsuit, but its the best when you get the urge to sing random songs in front of total strangers. Recommended.

I agree, LULU lounge isnt a bad spot, but the only purpose it serves is for Karoake and nothing more, being a regular like I used to be made me realize that I needed to go to other places, sure the people are friendly and they have lots of songs, but its a typical Karaoke lounge nothing more nothing less.,

The Lu Lu lounge is not a bad karaoke place, but it wears on you if you become a regular customer because there are not special events but just people karaoking.

The worst thing about the lounge is that you have to go down a darkened set of stairs to get to the lounge. If you fall, make sure that you have someone to pick you up because the bouncers there won't touch you or assist you. These stairs are poorly lit and several customers have already fallen down and gotten hurt. Surprisingly, the lounge does not see fit to remedy the situation by following proper city ordinace. They should put a light beacon to shine on the stairs.

They have a large section of songs.I usually don't sing till I've had a drink. Then I can't stop. The people I have meet there seem to have just as good time as i do.Even the people who work there sing as along as they work.
