From Village Voice
"Drinkers in Williamsburg are lucky these days, thanks to the Lucky Cat. The year-old bar/performance space serves Warsteiner and its evil stout twin, Dunkel, on tap, and a ridiculous array of beers, from the obvious (Corona and Guinness) to the obscure (super-cheap Bohemia and Paulaner, a wheat beer in the bottle). It also serves vegan snacks. Not only does the Cat have an outdoor garden area (yay, smoking!), it has a shallow moat running through it. The only thing funnier than watching some drunk take a header into it is reading the owner's blog entry about the incident the next day."

Why do people keep mentioning Trash as a "real" place? I was outside there on their opening night and watched a lady with a clipboard show the rented Harley riders where to park their hogs. One parked across the street and she ran over all pissy and told the guy to move it in front of the venue. Luxx was cool, but the owners kicked out the founder, tried to open a gay club (Toyboxx) which bombed and then re-invented themsleves as a "rock" venue. If you think they are the real Willyburg, you're part of the problem! RIP Stinger

Dude, every time I've been in this place there are hot naked girls breathing fire or dancing on speakers or posing for "art students" --even in the middle of a saturday afternoon! The best part is, the guys who are there are usually gay, so the chances of us straight guys hooking up with one of the naked girls is pretty good.
Once, this drummer played with her top off and she had the best set of tits I ever saw! Then, I realized it was a dude, but thats okay.

This Avery chick is a dumbass. No place in NYC has a "built in crowd" to see bands. That's for one horse towns in Idaho, clearly where she must come from.
Any place that is described as "hard to find," is a place I like to go to...so as not to encounter idiots like her who probably also spent the better part of a year searching for "that place on Grand called 'Bar'"?

I've never seen more than a handful of people in this place. Very hard to find this place. A friends band played here and there was no crowd at all. The owner bitched that the band didn't have a following. Obviously this place has no following. Trash across the street has a BUILT IN crowd to see any band. If you have to rely on a band to bring you customers then you are really in the wrong business. Like I said it was hard to find this place too. No clear signage and I live a few blocks away. Beer prices were average, sound ok, stage tiny and about a foot off the ground. I would only recommend this place to a couple who are looking for an uncrowded quiet place to drink.

The Lucky Cat is a classic bar/venue/restaurant in the European tradition, and a great place to see talented, up and coming independent music acts of all genres. However, if you happen to be a trend following, dumb as a brick, trust funded hipster tool looking for the next supposedly "cool" thing that some collection of advertisements masquerading as a "magazine" told you to consume, don't even bother checking the place out, as it is the very antithesis of everything your human plague represents.

I heard that that black-banged bartender chick used to be a Hell's Angel. And that she did John Doe. Or maybe Lux Interior, I forget, but someone H-O-T who apparently still writes her 50000 emails a day, which she deletes. I think she prefers girls. I also heard that she knows Madonna!!! Coincidence?

This place is so wacky. I got a blowjob in the bathroon while Ethel Merman blasted in the front. As I climaxed I sceam "Everything is coming up roses!!!"
But seriously, they got great bands and it's away from all of those annoying hipsters. It's a chill place for real people to hang.
Keep it real!

This is my favourite bar in the area; whether crowded or nearly empty I always feel at home. On any given evening, one could find an assortment of musical endeavors wailing away here into the night or DJs playing various styles of music. There is always something new to discover or something comforting to hang onto at the Lucky Cat.
The drinks are strong and the staff takes no S**t, but that does not mean they are rude or unwelcoming. Social interaction is a give and take situation. If you give off a certain "vibe" chances are you'll be experiencing the repercussive effects of it either immediately or down the road when you least expect it.
The Lucky Cat is nothing short of chill, if that's what you want it to be.
Oh and from what I understand the recent renovations are nearly complete and soon another
favourite spot will be evolving.. so check it out.

This is not a bar where anyone looking for a happening scene goes. A big space with nothing really going on. I've been there twice to see bands and there was never more than 10-15 people at a time. I didn't see a sound system just some pig nose amps, no monitors, no soundboard. Comparable to being in someones basement studio. The actual bar is a makeshift bar and really high. You can barely see the bartenders and the two or three seats at the bar seem to be occupied by the staffs friends nursing a beer. The rest of the place has old couches that they probably found on the street or bought at the salvation army. It took me at least 5 minutes to get my gin and tonic in a place that was pretty dead. If you are looking for at least some eye candy from the staff and patrons this isn't the place. It's more like a clubhouse for drifters than a scene. The place has a gloomy and unwelcoming vibe, really boring if there isn't a band on. The only good thing I can say is that at least the bathroom was somewhat clean. I won't be going back even to see a friends band.

I don't know what Ricky's (see other review) problem was. Sounds like the "everything sucks when you suck" thing. I was there last night from about 9PM until 4AM and I disagree with Ricky.
1. The place was packed - no idea of the headcount, but it was hard to move in the back. Good male:female ratio, too, but Ricky probably wasn't concerned about that.
2. The bartender was easily among the friendliest despite the crowding and impatient patrons. She will move on if you don't know what you want.
3. The sound was fine. Don't know what else to say there. A guy made adjustments for the bands as asked and I didn't hear any complaints other than "loud".
4. Didn't observe any moat. Maybe it's been removed due to Ricky's scathing review of the bar's interior design.
Nice staff, decent drink prices, good crowd - I'll be going back.

This place blows and it's always dead. The sound system sucks and the pile of wood they call a stage is about a foot high and three feet deep. The Jeneane Garafolo wannabee bartender always has a bitchy tude and that so called moat that some dumbass reviewed above is more like a puddle. Just walk across the street and hit Clems or Trash for examples of real Billyburg bars .
