Fancy Wine Bar The Counting Room Opens

Sound Fix Records has a new neighbor: The Counting Room-an upscale multilevel wine bar that has taken over part of the former seltzer factory at 44 Berry Street.
The Counting Room offers a selection of wines from The Old World. The wines are decently priced at $8-$11 dollars a glass, half bottles which range from $16-$25, and full bottles from $25-$45. Instead of 2 and 4-top tables, long picnic benches are scattered throughout the industrial, airy space. Several retractable garage doors line the upstairs and when opened it almost feels like you’re drinking outside.

The Counting Room is named after an inscribed salvaged schoolhouse door the owners found in Upstate New York. See if you can spot the door on the lower level, which is our favorite part of the bar. Downstairs is dimly lit and more of a cocktail lounge than the street level, it’s the perfect place to throw a birthday party with ample space for large groups of people, and dancing if you’re so inclined.
Our favorite cocktails are the Reverend Horton Heat #2 which contains Smoked Lemon infused Maker’s Mark Bourbon, Maple Syrup and Seasonal Fruit ($11) and the Gourmet Popcorn which contains Corn infused Luksusowa Vodka, Salt and Butter infused Dry Vermouth and Combier Orange ($11). Spirits, beer, appertifs & digestives are also served.
Small plates of food are also offered to compliment the wine. Our favorites are the French Onion Soup ($10), Assorted Meat Board ($16), and Grilled Cheese Sandwich ($12). Warm Chocolate Chip Cookies with Milk Punch ($7) and White Trash Créme Brûlee ($7) are also served for those with a sweet tooth. On the opening weekend a full Brunch menu was offered, however moving forward only the regular menu will be available on the weekends with the addition of two to three featured Brunch items.
The Counting Room, 44 Berry Street, at North 11th Street, Williamsburg (718-599-1860 or thecountingroombk.com).

Again with these hipster-yuppie shitheads and “brunch.” As an experiment, I think I’m going to grow a bear and wander around 7th or Bedford Aves all day just going “brunch brunch brunch WINE brunch brunch brunch ORGANIC brunch brunch brunch BROOKLYN brunch brunch brunch”–I bet you I’ll have 50 new best friends by the end of the day.
So fucking sick of this shit. This is exactly the sort of ‘news’ that occurs in Park Slope every single day. I mean, how many of these cookie-cutter places do these people need in their toilet neighborhoods? But as we all know, when you’re dealing with an infinite amount of free leisure time and suburban parents’ money, you can never have enough time to spend them at.

  2. GioNYC says:

Why would they charge so much on the food? The place is not in Manhattan. It’s Brooklyn. What’s with the PARK Ave. price menu?? Geeeez. “SEA” on N6 has better food and its cheaper!!!

    • Peter Smith says:

seriously? Sea has better food? only bridge and tunnel’s think Sea has good [not even better] food.

  3. Roland Trafton says:

Good review, though I don’t know about this author.
