im casting 50-60 hipster kids to be in a beer commercial for tooheys extra dry. we are shooting a party scene in a warehouse, think rumblefish meets the warriors meets a clockwork orange. super 16mm. edgy/disaffected youth/high fashion vibes.
shoots next friday night, jan 29th, in greenpoint. groups of 4 or 5 friends preferred. $150 per person.

This is going to be all 19 year-olds from midtown Manhattan who listen to Girl Talk and think they’re Hipsters.

now that’s real hipster speak – kill themselves? They are getting paid 150 dollars for nothing and it might be fun! Of course if you think making money isn’t cool then you’re exactly what people hate about the whole hipster thing anyway.
It’s not really about “making money”, Heather (I fully support the hustle), but really about this: if you consider yourself to be a hipster, you’re instantly… not. Obviously the inverse is not true, but it’s one of the pillars of Brooklyn Law.

As far as I can tell, people don’t want to be called “hipsters” – for the sake of casting its simply practical for the person posting it to say seeking hipsters as a look. It is a look and that’s all it is.
Yeah I guess what I’m trying to say is, if you consider yourself having that “look” in the first place (edgy, disaffected youth) then that’s, well, pretty terrible.
I mean just imagine it. You’re reading the ad on your laptop, gazing into that video camera pointed at yourself, thinking, “Yeah. I’m pretty edgy. Hell, check out these pre-ripped skinny jeans. I’m also pretty disaffected, since Mom and Dad are totally lame and didn’t give me that extra two grand this month to live on.”
Hipsters are horrible, but hipster wannabes are hundreds of times worse in terms of thinking patterns and number.
Do I Care Too Much? Probably, but it’s fucking Monday, so give me a break.
