Lawrence LaDouceur: The Bedford Ranter

God bless Russel Fong. We’ve been wanting to interview this dude for months but were frankly a little terrified. If you’ve ever visited Williamsburg, you’ve undoubtedly seen/heard him. His name is Lawrence LaDouceur, aka The Bedford Ranter.

  1. 11211 says:

    watched whole thing
    good job all around

  2. ROCK STARchitect says:

    Well done

  3. ROCK STARchitect says:

Can we get a Lawrence LaDouceur foldable?

  4. cenk says:

Having a sympathetic take on this guy seems a little silly and irresponsible. His rants are clearly anti-semitic and xenophobic. I’ve actually tried talking to this guy, but instead of having a conversation he tends to just rant his one sided nonsense then walk away when he gets flustered. Should have scrutinized his belief system more instead of letting him again rant more and document it. Interesting to see how he lives though.

  5. Vanessa says:

I saw him get in a fight one night, he got this guy so worked up that the dude attacked him. It was crazy!! After being hit in the face Lawrence just started laughing in the other guys face saying “is that all ya got?”…it was pretty disturbing and probably one of the most bizarre things I have witnessed in a long time.

  6. jesse says:

so slightly on topic, can we please get an interview of the guy who drives around in his subaru shouting sinatra at the top of his lungs all day every day?? anyone know his deal? we have had a few theories at work about it.

  7. 11211 says:

ya i’ve seen the guy who sings from his car
has the oldies station on and sings along rather loud and drives around the neighborhood

  8. waka says:

OMG IT’S SKELETOR! That dude used to yell at me atleast once a week last summer. He used to piss me off so hard while I was waiting for the bus on Bed & N7th

  9. rachel says:

Um UN:art:IG, are you retarded?? Lawrence is a fucking lunatic schizo!!! Why would you think that reasoning with him would be a good idea? You should have your head examined.

    • annoyed!!! says:

Wow you use some pretty offensive words and honestly I lived in a town that Lawrence “Larry” resided and he happens to be a person with true feelings and yes when Ignorant people taunt him he will react and he diserves to be treated the same as you would like to be treated!

  10. un:ART:ig says:

    dear miss rachel,
yes I am probably retarded, even though I don’t see how that relates to my comment which was simply “excellent job”. if you can’t express criticism in a civilized manner, then I am tempted to feel a wee bit sorry for you.

  11. olivia says:

i honestly think this was beautiful. i have compassion for this man. I don’t know why, but this video…wow. Now, I know why I always have.

  12. resident alien says:

way to go easy on a child intimidating antisemite

  13. Craig LaDouceur says:

Can I get a hold of the raw footage??? Lawrence LaDouceur is my father.

  14. Steve LaDouceur says:

My father is a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, How anyone could want to examine his belief system is beyond me, there isn’t one. He is an example of the health care problems with the nation. People who truly need help never get it. I would also be obliged if I could get the raw footage.

  15. M. K. LaDouceur says:

Please send contact information on Lawrence LaDouceur to me, his sister @ mkladouceur@yahoo.com. His sisters and I have been trying to locate him to let him know his mother passed. An address of phone number would be helpful. He is a diagnosed schizophrenic who, when off meds, is totally irrational.
    Thank you.

  16. larryfan says:

Woot, crazy larry is the man!!! This guy can be a real riot when he’s on his meds and high. Otherwise he’s just a dangerous psycho who, if provoked enough, will hurt someone. He never should be on the street.
He should be locked up along with his retard raping youngest son!!!

  17. Jeremy says:

Lawrence is a legend in Butte. Here he was left alone for the most part and tolerated. He was picked on by drunks and bullies here, and I am sure he gets the same treatment there. He’s a decent guy if you sit down and listen to him. Don’t try to get explanations, don’t try to understand, just listen and eventually you will understand what it is he is trying to say. And don’t be afraid of him, he’s a gentle giant who only reacts in anger when truly provoked or threatened.
Smoke a bowl with him and he’s even calmer and easier to understand. Might want to just give him some to smoke, sharing a pipe isn’t a bright idea. (precautions) I used to enjoy talking to him and i often gave him many rides around town when he would let me.
And for the LaDouceurs, I’ve been keep tabs on your father/ brother. he’s at:
    Glenwood Hotel
    339 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11211
    nr. Rodney St.
    718-387-7858
I cant find the room # i had for him but if you contact the hostel they will probably help you out.

  18. Elizabeth says:

I grew up in Butte and remember “Crazy Larry” roaming around yelling stuff. I don’t ever remember people saying negative things about him, but they may have. He was just like the weird Uncle you got to deal with at Thanksgiving and would run into once in a while at the store.
Thanks for doing this documentary. I enjoyed it very much.

  19. Gary says:

I love to think how perfect everyones life is that had ignorant comments on here about Larry. Once again people forget the rule about try living in someone elses shoes for once. Its easy to pick on and make fun of people and how much they pissed you off when you dont have a single idea of what that person has gone thru. Larry is from my hometown and know him and his kids very well. Him and my dad were friends, and like most people that age had to deal with some very difficult times that most on this page with never have to deal with and thanks to our government and all the cuts makes it harder for most who really need the help to get it. So if someone bothers you or you dont wanna talk to them, then dont. Before you post a douchebag comment, why dont you think what has happened to this guy in his life and think that could be your dad, brother or son cuz he is those things to someone.

    • Darcy says:

Gary, I think you have said it all in a beautiful way. I, too, remember Larry from Butte. I don’t remember him ever hurting anyone. Had he received the care he needed he may well be living a productive and happy life today.

  20. Hana says:

Sympathetic to the man who threatened to smite my mother with an axe in her business(we were lucky an FBI agent happened to be in the store to stop him before he followed through)? It’s interesting to be sympathic until someone the man nearly kills your parent then it isn’t so interesting anymore.

  21. lois says:

This is one guy who needs to be in a mental hospital and not just on meds. It is obvious that he does not take his medicine and its just a matter of time before he really hurts someone.
