If atmosphere is important to you, be sure to stop by Royal Oak. From brass fixtures, to red wallpaper, to leather booths, the setting is classic and intimate. Royal Oak is spacious and a great place to unwind. It’s owned by the same people who run Sweet-Ups. There are dozens of beers on tap, ranging from German to Belgium. Plus, Royal Oak is never touristy, a problem that is becoming more annoying in Brooklyn.

The White Stripes put Detroit back on the map, and shortly thereafter someone decided to name a Williamsburg bar after a hip, gay neighborhood in the Motor City — Royal Oak. The expansive venue has plenty of corners for making out, and sporadic dancing breaks out when DJs follow Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” with hits by Kiss and Missy Elliott. Satisfy a sweet tooth with the delectable drink, Blackberry Ramble, but if you want to get drunk, go for something stronger. Then get back to dancing.
