Two Door Tavern, a new comfort food spot/”all-American tavern,” has finally opened in Williamsburg. The decor was all sourced from salvage yards in the Tri-State area and beyond, and the owners describe the looks as “blue collar.” So that means that it has the now ever-present reclaimed wood from a barn in Pennsylvania, plus steel from the George Washington Bridge, metal plates from an airport carrier, windows from an old Army base, chicken wire from the old Philadelphia Ship Yards, a still from a moonshine plant in Tennessee, and two huge doors from a mansion in Connecticut. The menu offers pretty classic tavern staples like buffalo tenders, spinach and artichoke dip, soft pretzels, fish and chips, braised short ribs, and penne a la vodka. Kind of like a classier version of the 99. They also have $18 Sunday dinner specials including fried chicken, lobster mac ‘n’ cheese, and lasagna. Plus, craft beers! Two Door Tavern is open for lunch, brunch, dinner, and late night.

When Greenpoint’s beloved restaurant du jour Queen’s Hideaway shuttered last fall, it was a major blow to the hood’s most-adventurous diners—the restaurant was known for crafting a daily menu, playing off the seasons and the chef’s legendary mood swings. Chanterelle vet Michael Sullivan aims to bring his own strong personality to the handsome space, but more with his Italian-rooted cooking than “Top Chefian” meltdowns. The trattoria serves five types of brick oven pizza, including truffled cheese with onions and the signature pie of bacon and pepperoni. A pork loin wrapped in bacon is an early favorite, as well as a chocolate terrine dessert with pistachio crème anglise. Sullivan plans to install greenhouse, growing herbs and produce on-site.
