NYC's Cool New Backyard Farms: Growing More Than Just Produce

Urban NYC farmers have set their eyes on a new prize: transforming privately owned backyards into lush, fruitful farmlands.
By signing up to share your yard with a urban farmer, you can eat fresh from your own personal farm during the harvest months, and even sell produce to your neighbors – growing a community built around fresh local food. The best part is, you don’t even have to lift a finger, BK Farmyards does all the farming for you…

whoa. i was wondering what they were doing next door. seriously, you can see my backyard thru the fence.

  2. Kit says:

This kind of thing is so good for Brooklyn and all of New York City. Many experts (none of whom I will link to because I can’t remember who they are) believe that NYC is so far behind the rest of the nation & world that in the event of major upheaval in agricultural models, we would be, well, dead in the water–unable to produce enough food for ourselves by large measure. It’s going to be a lot more Cormac McCarthy than Michael Pollan when that happens! (Yikes.)

  3. Come celebrate local food with us at the COMPOUND Brooklyn this Saturday, August 22nd, 3pm-midnight.
Live music, DJs, dance troupe, local food, auctioning gift certificates for local restaurants like Franny’s, Get Fresh Table & Market, Ici, etc
    Pass the word on!

You can be sure that your landscape, vegetation, and family are all safe, thanks to Stacey’s organic approach to farming.
Can you imagine finding out this was next door to you, and they were using pesticides & other chemicals to promote the crops’ growth???
    Nightmare.
