One Punk Under God

Jay Bakker—the son of Jim and Tammy—is the star of a new documentary series that will be premiering tonight on Sundance. One Punk Under God is riveting and definitely must-see TV. Plus, Jay is a great guy with a very progressive ministry. We’ve had the pleasure of getting to know him, now that he lives in Brooklyn and holds a weekly service in one of our favorite watering holes, Pete’s Candy Store. If we believed in God, we’d be calling upon Jay to do our petitioning. The series will run through January on Wednesdays at 9 pm and its produced by the same people who brought you The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Also, you can download the first episode for free on iTunes.

Another cat giving a really great religous style performance in town is the Reverend Vince Anderson. He actually filled in for Jay two weeks ago at Pete’s. You can catch Reverend Vince every monday night at Black Betty.

I second the nod to Rev. Vince. Check him out, he and his band are fantastic.
I know nothing of this Jay Bakker guy–I don’t have cable, so the Sunce channel is beyond me–but if he knows the Rev, I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, even though I think his perents(Jay’s, not the Rev’s) are the poster people for what’s wrong with religion.

Jay & the Rev are great guys with very cool things going on…
in addition to them, we’re apart of another similar church community that’s been meeting at the Trash Bar on Grand St for the past year.
