We had Easter dinner and nobody was happy with the food. For that price it would've been better to cook at home a better meal. I am disappointed as also the service wasn't good and they fucked up the bill too. A friend orderd a plate with mushroomsouce and she got pesto sauce...so far for following the menu.

Overall, Great Food, average service, avoid on very busy nights, skip the Bar. We liked this place, so we went there for New Years Eve at $75 Price fixed. We were seated right away. We started the meal with no napkins, and with tea spoons for the soup. The soup was weak in flavor, the main courses and deserts were great. Our Waitress promptly handled any problem, and was very attentive and friendly. We went out happy and smoked outside, when I realized I forgot something inside. I run in with my lighted cigarette to pick it up, and had an agitated barman running after me telling me rather laud that there is no smoking in the restaurant. He was right of course, but I thought he was a bit rude for New Years Eve. He could have offered to bring my stuff out, or take my cigarette. It was average for New Years Eve dinner and price, but for regular night out, they have good food and average service.

My husband and I were lured into FADA by their live jazz music while strolling around the neighborhood, ever since our first visit, we became regulars there. Their calamari w/potato is supreme, the lamb dishes are well cooked, oh gosh, not to mention the live jazz music every saturday, 2 weeks ago they were playing Django, and that just totally blew us away. We never have any problems with their service.

huzzas to pascal and co. for bringing the warmth of marseille to driggs avenue. pommes frites in a paper cone served in a tiny anodized aluminum bucket is a perfect example of their attention to detail in tandem with the casual attitude that bespeaks a sophistication with no need to fuss, or to prove.
a lovely place for supper, or for brunch, or for lunch, or for late night jazz.

I found FADA using city search, and I have to say it was one of the best finds. Everything about the restaurant was perfect. The meal was absolutely incredible, and very reasonably priced. The service was very good, fast, and enthusiastic. The atmostphere was perfect for a nice, romantic evening. It has already become one of my favorite restaurants, and the tuna tartar is the best I've ever had, my wife loved her Monkfish and the lamb is to die for. Desserts are a must.

Wonderful food at great prices. The staff are great - just like they are in France (for people who have actually been and don't just write reviews like they know). Definately try this place the only think you might be disappointed by is the proximity of the tables to each other (again very french). Bon appetite.

Hmm...it's hard to recommend Fada except for their lovely brunch, as another poster said, in the garden. I had eggs benedict and they were perfect, my boyfriend had a perfectly cooked quiche and our bloody marys were pretty good- slightly above average though served in a wimpy wine glass loaded with ice. Our poor waitress I believe had the entire restaurant to herself so service was terrible.
We returned later in the week for dinner. We started with the world's most garlic-laden gazpacho in existence. I love the flavor of gazpacho but it was so strong I couldn't taste my dinner! Maybe it explains why my pinot noir was forgettable as well. The menu was quite small and uninspiring. Perhaps my ignorance of how things are done in Marseille? We're big fans of Robin Du Bois, Patois and Bar Tabac in Carrol Gardens so we've been spoiled with a diverse menu and excellent food. The entrees we ordered tasted as ho-hum as the menu looked.
At least their brunch is noteworthy. Sorry but beyond eggs and the traditional staples, Fada is not a stand-out.

On our first look at the menu, things seemed pretty pricey (for us youngsters), but definately well priced for the neighborhood. We ordered mussels,steak and a chicken dish among 5 of us, but were very satisfied with the food and the portions. We were stuffed! To top it off, we had desserts and again, were very satisfied!

Brunch is excellent, especially if you eat in the garden. The quiche and oeufs Fada are especially good. I've never had a bad experience like the other reviewers - even when we had the waitress who faked a french accent - and I've been going for at least two years. On the downside, the coffee cups are too small and they only take American Express.

I love this place. I have only had a few things on the menu, but only because they have been so good that I haven't felt the need to stray. The foie gras is tops, the mussles in marinieres sauce are delicious, and the steak is grand. Not to mentin the fries! And I love that they have hoegaarden on tap. It's a lovely little place that can often get crowded, so I recommend going at an off hour

I was there on a date. My date could not stop raving about the food, she was very impressed and so was I. We had a very nice waitress who helped us pick the wine and did not try and point us in the direction of the most expensive bottle in the house. We found the place to be very romantic and as close to perfect as a small bistro could possibly get. I cant wait to come back in the spring when the back garden opens.

This place is great! The staff was very attentive and my food excellent - try the warm goat cheese salad! I went there on a Friday night and the crowd was energetic but friendly and the music awesome!! We end up staying all night to hang out! I definetely recommend

We avoided Fada for a long time after being consistently disappointed with service and quality; but recently decided to give them another try. The menu has changed for the better and the quality has improved significantly. The lamb dish is lovely and steak frites consistently on target. Brunch dishes such as the french toast and croque madame are fantastic; however, we never seem to have enough room on the table for everything because they are so small. I still think the wine list needs improvement, or maybe how they are storing it or glassware? Never tastes right. Anyway, they are moving in the right direction, but I still prefer Tournesol in LIC for french.

My boyfriend and I ate here for the first time on Saturday. the atmosphere and hostess were lovely and welcoming. We are both familiar with Marseille-style french food (although I am a little puzzled why that makes someone a better judge--people like what they like, attacking them as ignorant based on taste is, well, ignorant.)
Anyway, the food was fine. His steak was really good, but the mushroom flan, although commendable for adventurousness, was slimy and kind of chunky. My salade nicoise was poorly dressed and the tuna was inconsistently grilled.
All said, I think that fada has a lot of the components of a lovely restaurant, but the food does not live up to the quality of the space. I think (hope!) that it will improve.

This place is absolutely terrible. It is a disgrace to the neighborhood that it still is open. The problem is not that 20 something hipsters cannot tell good food and like to complain, the problem is that they keep going to the place and keep it open.

The only mistake fada's owner made was to choose Williamsburg as a place to open a restaurant...food is terrific, atmosphere is amazing, but a lot of the little 20 year old hipsters prefer paying for the cheap frozen falafels a few blocks further...
They're pathetic, I see them act when I'm there, all drunk and full of themselves, I just hope that the area will grow, for Fada to just have the nice customers they deserve.

Visited Fada last Friday night for the first time The vibe was laid-back, service/food was pretty good, and the live music was awesome. Would definitely go back just to hang out and listen to the bands.

I've been a regular at Fada for the past two years, and i'm sorry to read some of these reviews about my favorite restaurant in Williamsburg. I heard everything: from the overpriced menu to the taste of the food, the rudness of the staff, etc. I believe people don't know how to eat anymore without being bitchy. They want to feel at home and so customers just act so, and are indeed rude most of the time to the people who provide them a service. They forget that we are all human beings. Of course no single mistake is allowed regarding the crazy money you will spend on a steak and fries, assuming that it would be charged about $7 more in the city where the hostess tells you that you will have to leave within an hour because they have reservations.
To me, Fada is a great place that doesn't only try, but actually does improve, and puts will, conscience and love in their work. Yes, sometimes the service is "comme-ci, comme-ca" (so-so). But they managed to be a bar, a place playing live music 3 nights a week, and a romantic restaurant. If williamsburg hipsters want to bitch about a restaurant, why don't they write their bad reviews about some places that are really lacking service and spirit, and start to realize that drunk posts DO harm good places; and that some people other that their shitty friends might be interested in giving it a try.
And to advertise: I inquired about their upcoming events, and i'll let you know that Fada will celebrate the "BEAUJAULAIS NOUVEAU" around November 17th, and will have its 3rd anniversary later that week. Followed, of course, by a traditional Thanksgiving dinner-party cooked by their French chef Phillipe.
I had so much fun last year, and at last week Halloween party that yes, i will be there!

The four of us have been food-enthusiasts for the past 20 puls years and we had just come out of Galapagos's video featuring of the rock band, Dirty Lenin... So we were definitely in a good mood as we entered Fada to the beat of live jazz.
The atmosphere was terrific and the decor reminiscent of what a Greenwich Village restaurant looked like before it became a tourist trap: faux finished plaster walls, vintage faded French posters, smoky mirror and a painted tin roof. We sat down and were offered 2 baskets of French bread with some olive-caper spread and 2 large bottles of tap water. The waitress was very polite and accomodating. My wife and my frined ordered a glass of wine each: Pinot Noir-like, acoording to the description from our waitress - but both were disappointed by the flat almost non-recognizable taste. My wife didn't finish hers at all. I had Gaspacho -extremely spicy (but then, I like it that way)! My friend ordered escargo which was so SALTY that it had to be taken back. The replacement sea-food salad however, was EXCELLENT. His steak au pouvre was satisfying, my blackened swordfish was, again, really spicy -but the rice calmed it down to a tolerable experience of mastication. Alas there was no mahi-mahi left for my wife and the substitute monk-fish was apparently very good because she took half of it home for the next day. My wife's friend ordered a safe seared chicken salad that hit the right spot for her... unfortunately the desert coffe came in a very large and very hot cup without handles (perhaps de rigour in Marseilles - but somewhat cumbersome here in the states) that prevented her from fully enjoying it. We then did something that we almost never do -we decided to forego desert since none of us were tempted by anything on the desert menu. A cute blonde in a dark jacket with a French accent came around to every table and asked if we would like to contrubute some money for the musicians. My friend and I both put some money into the jar. Soon afterwards, the jazz musicians left and were replaced by some very loud arabic/spanish type of CD-music with a splash of Gwen Stefani's "If I were A Rich Man"... The music eventually became too repetitious, too loud and too annoying... but then I suppose it was getting late and it may have been the restaurant's way to provide the appropriate hint that it was closing time.
After we paid the relatively modest check, I passed by the kitchen window and asked the person inside with the chef's hat if the food was Morocco-influenced (being so spicy and all). He was friendly and spoke mainly Spanish, as did the waiters and was not very direct in answering my question... Oh well. Overall, I would recommend the place as an experience -not really sure if I'd go back for a second helping though.

Wow. I'm so sorry to hear about your poor expierences. Every time my husband and I have gone we've enjoyed the wine, the food and the service.
We love the onion soup the wine and tapas special ,the steak frites and the cheese plate. We also loved the trout amandine.
We aren't overly impressed with thier breakfast, they use unsmoked bacon, but aside from that, Fada rocks! For what it's worth. you should give them another time.

After reading some of these reviews, I am certain that these people who attended were already-drunk-pretentious-20 something-hipsters. It is key to understand that the Fada is influenced by the fine cuisine of Marseille. I, myself have lived in France and I know what excellent cuisine is...the Fada has a succulent lamb dish and my favorite special: a bottle of red or white wine with your choice of 3 tapas....I prefer the fried olives, calamari and zucchini....the live music is always enlightening from jazz to bluegrass...highly recommended....

Fada is another one of those Williamsburg places that will survive despite offering nothing interesting or imaginative. The service is terrible and I have never liked anything I've ordered there--though the french onion soup is palatable. Please help us raise standards of restaurants here in the neighborhood by CARING about what we do!!!!!!!!

Good place for drinks, wine and cheese plate, or brunch (esp. french toast and croque madame). Otherwise, you are better off going to LIC to Tournesol. Have never been satisfied with a dinner here, with the exception of steak frites. Wine list was subpar and never seems to change. Jazz nights are pretty cool.

it's important to remember that this french restaurant is Marseille style and not Parisian style. the south do things a bit differently. their mussells rock.

Yesterday afternoon, my boyfriend and I were at Les Halles having a drink and weren't hungry at the time so we returned home to Brooklyn. However, this sparked a craving for French food later in the evening that led to a trip to Fada. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. It got off to a bad start with the bread. The waitress didn't bring any until after our appetizers arrived and then we still had to had to ask for it (with a plateful of escargot and a bowl of soup bread should have been standard anyway even if she had forgotten to bring it before). Then, once that small piece of subpar french bread was gone she never offered to bring anymore. By this time, having already had to remind her to bring our drinks and refill water, it was too tiresome to trouble with asking for more. The French onion soup was too sweet; the escargot were pretty tasty though we would have preferred a more traditional garlic and butter preparation. We shared a steak frites that had okay flavor but was mealy and cooked way past medium. The fries were good. It would have been nice if the steak came with some sort of sauce (if you want sauce, you have to pay $2 extra). We couldn't help thinking that since we weren't ordering alcohol the waitress just decided to ignore us in favor of higher-ticket tables. She could have at least offered a refill of our soft drink. It was so frustrating to spend $50 on a meal and leave feeling as if, in addition eating to mediocre food, we had been offered poor service. And, of course, we tipped anyway.
