NY MAG SAYS: The name means "holy water" in Italian. But secular types shouldn't read too much into that-any worshiping at Mario La Manno's laid-back, candlelit trattoria is for his rustic Italian cooking-thin-crust pizzas, simple pastas, and entrees like a red-wine-and garlic-sauced pork tenderloin. And the holiest water on the premises comes in a bottle with a Calabria label.

FANTASTIC! Went this past weekend with a group of 8 people. Shared appetizers, fruit & cheese plate, and ordered a variety of entrees from pasta, pizza to lamb & chicken - EVERYTHING was fabulous! GREAT Food & Great Service!! Very reasonable & HUGE portions! I highly recommend!

I wanted this place to be good and had high hopes. The older Italian gentleman who sat us was lively and charming. The decor was cute and romantic. The food, well the food just plain sucked.

The service was very poor as we had to ask for everything from napkins to water, I don't think our waiter was the sharpest tool in the shed but to have to ask for water two times in order to get some was a little fustrating.

That I could have lived with. The food was just very run of the mill, very UNauthentic. I had chicken catcatorie while my boyfriend had fish. The chicken came in a weird brown sauce (which this dish usually does not come in)and the fish came with a very very pitifull side of 3 small pieces of plain brocolli. Both were under seasoned and really to high priced for the quality.

I would not suggest this place at all which I feel unfortunate. You're better off with a pizza delivery.

I had a wonderful meal here tonight. The atmosphere was perfect and the service friendly but very professional. The special penne with salmon, raisins, and pine nuts in a tarragon sauce with fresh mint was phenomenal. Lamb was juicy, flavorful and cooked perfectly (and big chops!). My friend's filet mignon in cognac & peppercorns was luscious. WONDERFUL!

Went here last night, the food was most decidedly subpar, ingredients didn't seem fresh and at least one thing we tried was terrible, not just mediocre like the rest. Wine was also bad. Service was pretty bad. The only reason I can think of why this place is still open is the garden area is somehow tricking people into thinking they're getting a good meal. Or maybe the pizzas are good, didn't try that but don't plan on returning to find out.

This restaurant looks great but goes downhill from there. The service is deplorable, the food unmentionable, I have been dissapointed evey time.

I went here last week and was pretty excited about it reading all other's reviews. However, I was extremely disappointed. I don't feel as though anything here is fresh which makes all the dishes below average. Also, after telling our server twice we were not ready to order she insisted on leaning over our table and offering recommendations until we picked something. Is the decor nice? Of course, but not even the beautiful garden can distract from the unimpressive food.

Excellent restaurant. The pizza is yummy, the entrees are great and well priced and their wine list is divine. I love sitting under a canopy of grapes on a hot summer day. They don't rush you out the door--my husband and I lingered for three hours one sultry night. Highly recommended.

Possibly the best part about this place is the service. They are warm and friendly, and always remember you. Plus - they are family. Father and son, husband and wife. It's always nice to be in a family-run establishment.

Next: the food. I like the pizzas: especially the verdona: margherita pizza with pesto.

My favorite item there -- seems to pop up on the menu inconsistently: Crepe with pesto and Parmesan cheese. mm mm good. Wish I had one right now!

Lastly: the environment. The indoors in nice, but the outdoor garden is VERY nice. You can sit in the sun, or under the shade of the vine covered canopy.

My husband an I came here early on a beautiful Sunday day, we sat outside and shared a bottle of wine and the fruit and cheese plate. The wine was great and they have resonable mark-up on their wine list...not too expensive with a good value. The atmosphere is great (if the weather is good) but the fruit and cheese is obviously not their specialty. We only have one type of cheese and even then it was 4 small slices. we will go back and have some more wines and maybe a pizza. the service was good.

One of my favorite things about this place is how quiet it is indoors. maybe it's just because I'm not 21 any more, but I find a lot of the Wburg restaurants are a few decibels too loud to tolerate.
And then there's the food, of course. I've never had a bad meal or bad service here. And yes, the tiramisu is wonderfully fresh and good.

I love that place! ...and finally a waiter! not a busboy! his name is Masilliano, make sure that he's there, you'll get a great service.
Food A+++++, Try the special mozarela!!

It's great in the summer, but beware of the indoor seating! Scary stuff. The waitstaff was outstanding, but I miss Nicole Kidman who used to work there! Try the montepulciano by the glass. It's not bad at all and they give you a huge glass full!

I have eaten here on 10 occasions and have never had an issue with the type of service described above. On the contrary, the service has been great and the food as well. It sounds like a disgruntled former employee is posting the negative comments listed above. I will be eating there tonight!

these reviews surprise me...i've always had good experiences at acqua santa, and have never found the serves to be rude(especially the sweet, young italian guy, who is pretty easy on the eyes as well).

it's one of my favorite spots in williamsburgh, especially for a bottle of wine and some pizza on the piazza!

Easily one of the coolest, most convenient, and most comfortable dining spots in all of NYC. The waiters, hostesses, and owner/manager are always very friendly, the house wine is excellent and not too expensive, and the food is great. The specials are usually outstanding. The prices are moderate. The atmosphere is laid-back but rustic/hip. Sure, every once in a while you'll get a bad meal or bad salt shaker or mediocre glass of wine or the pretty waitress will forget about you for a while, but that's all part of the charm -- small flaws that remind you that 95% of the time you're going to have some of the best food and wine of your life, surrounded by a cool, artsy international crowd, with no need for a reservation, and no need for stress. Besides, if you politely ask the waitress what's actually good and what's bad on any particular night, they'll always give you the honest inside scoop, which lowers the risk factor and increases the yum factor. Hit it!

Totally not worth the attitude, servers unnecessarily bitchy- food was poorly prepared, and totally unrefined. Salad gritty, pizza -- too thick, sauce lacking flavor-- need I say more

This place used to be decent, maybe even good a couple of years ago... Get your **** together.

Truly mediocre.

the owner or manager or whatever this disgusting man is totally harrased me and my girlfriend when we ate there a while ago. he gave us some free drinks and i guess felt entitled to bother us for the duration of our meal. then he promptly yelled at one of the servers in such a manner that i was trully uncomfortable. i dont know if there will be a next time but i will sit in the back..

WOW. i went to this restaurant the other day and was so dissapointed. my hostess had no idea what she was doing and when i asked her for some water she told me thats not her job. but guess what? it never came! my waiter was nice but obviousely totally new and didnt know what he was doing. where are the old servers and service?! the pizza was good, but i like to be treated right when i come to a restaurant. i will not come back but will definately get delivery!

The outside space is really nice when good wether.
The food however is not great at all.
Best is to order wine (carafe white is not bad at all) and a pizza... but only for a mid afternoon snack (they open before 5pm).
take it for what it is: a coool outdoor space for leasure, not for dinner....

i went here on friday night and was surprised that it wasn't busy. anyway, my first impression was that it was cozy and cute, with a romantic and funky atmosphere. the hostess was rude, which i got over, and seated us outside as requested, but not without sighing and practically complaining while doing so...when we were seated, she took forever to come back and take our order. finally, the food came- the pizza was impressive, thin and tasted really fresh. we also ordered a gnocci dish, which had incredible sauce, except the gnocci itself tasted uncooked. gross. it took her 35 minutes to come back and refill our drinks, which was extremely irritating. someone else posted that each table gets a lot of individual attention, which i totally disagree with. that was the opposite of my experience. the food was so-so, however, and i would go back again for the atmosphere or to have a bottle of wine with friends, but don't expect too much from the "pretty face" of this place, it just doesn't deliver in my opinion.

I've only been here twice, first time was unmemmorable. We ate here last week. My pasta with lamb ragu was good, but the pasta with marinara that my husband ordered was awful. Completely bland. I had to share mine with him because neither of us could stand what he ordered.

The garden is nice, but I'm not going back.

my boyfriend and i had a really mediocre meal here. we happened upon the place in heading out on an impromptu date, but the appearance of acqua santa was deceiving. we ate under the trellis outside, a mistake because while the trellis was so overgrown that it looked like there was an actual ceiling over us, rain soon began dripping through the trellis and into our food.

the rain in the food wasn't an entirely bad thing, though, since the food was so damn bland anyway. the pizza my boyfriend ordered tasted exactly the same as the pasta i ordered; i think they used an identical too-sweet tomato sauce for both. on both, too, the seafood was really rubbery and tasted worse than frozen. pretty disappointing all in all. the dishes we ordered were standard dishes we've ordered with fine results in other restaurants -- dishes that really are hard to screw up -- but here they were bad enough that we still felt gypped of $30 when we left.

danny, you are the tool...you sound like a frat boy as well.

brick oven pizza is the best italian food here.

wonderful place! reminds you of a beautiful backyard in italy!

thats a great review of the place theresa....tool.
this place blows.food & service suck. avoid.

I LIVED AT 556 DRIGGS AVENUE WAS BORN THERE AND RAISED THERE, SAM SAUSA OWNED THE HERO STORE WHERE YOUR RESTAURANT IS NOW, I LIVED THERE UNTIL I WAS MARRIED ON THE TOP FLOOR FACING DRIGGS AVENUE. NOW IT IS A RESTAURANT. I WILL VISIT THERE SOON I FEEL HISTORY OF THE OLD NEIGHBORHOOD IS GONE, WHAT WONDERFUL MEMORIES I HAVE OF GROWING UP THERE! I LIVE ON LONG ISLAND BUT WOULD GIVE ANYTHING FOR BROOKLYN TO BE WHAT IT USED, BUT ALL AND ALL I WISH YOU LUCK. WOW WHAT A CHANGE.

I love this place! Great food and a nice, cozy, not to brightly lit, atmosphere. Service was friendly but be prepared to wait--each table gets a lot of attention which is part of the charm. Go only if planning for a nice meal out and enjoy the less-than-rushed pace. The food was fresh, delicious, and hard to chose with so many options. Probably the best tiramisu I have ever had (and I order it almost every time I see it on a menu). Most certainly recommend for a group of friends or a perfect date!
