From Village Voice
"Located on the eastern verge of Williamsburg, this Italian old-timer showcases seafood, veal, and pasta in abundant portions, although less predictable choices abound: a cold appetizer special one evening featured delicious zucchini-blossom pancakes, buffalo mozzarella, and breaded and fried cauliflower that was light, not sodden. Other favorites include potato gnocchi in a delicate meat sauce, and stracciatella, a rich Roman soup with masses of spinach and scrambled eggs. Arrogant and suburban. Food sub-par.
Go to Frost- especially now that it's been renovated- looks much better for better food and better people.

We tried this place for the first time a few weeks ago. The food was average, and the manager insulted more than one employee on the floor in front of customers. Nice one, Ace. We won't be back.

really great if you like being treated like a cheap jew for ordering basic pasta items for dinner on wine lovers night. i recommend asking for the check right after you order. unless of course you like being ignored at the end of the meal when you just wanna get home to have diarrhea.

The time I went, they were out of virtuallly everything we tried to order. Maybe that stuff would have been good, but what we were left with was only mediocre, especially for the price. Also I find the room a little tacky--which would be ok if it had fabulous food, but . . .!

I have always been satisfied with the food & service at this wonderful neighborhood restaurant until this past Mother's Day (5/13/07). They were running out of their specials too early in the day. They obviously didn't plan ahead for the number of people that might order, i.e. Chilean Sea Bass was cut so thin that I'm certain they were trying to stretch. I would rather they admitted to being out and I would have reselected. Disappointing to say the least!!!

The food stinks, the service is awful and the menu is over-priced. Go to Frost or Bamonte's for good italian food!!!

My family and I went there after living in brooklyn for years, for the first time. We had a great time, not to mention a great meal. The waiter was great and service was terrific. I would recommend Cono's to everyone. As a matter of fact my friend is going this week.

I was amazed by my most recent meal there! I started getting interested in wine a few months back, and I started going there because I'd heard that they had an incredible wine list and that any bottle of wine is half-price every Tuesday. A couple weeks ago they were hosting a $60 prix fixe 5-course wine dinner there, with people there to tell you about the different wines. By the time the chocolate layer cake came around I was so full I was wishing I had multiple stomachs like a cow, but I put away most of my slice anyway. That night I tried octopus for the first time (in the seafood salad) and although I was scared of the appearance at first it was shockingly delicious. OH, I'd also never had Riondo Prosecco before, but that's basically all I want to drink now. I TOTALLY recommend Cono's.

If "authentic" means calamari salad that tastes like it was scooped out of a 50 gallon drum and marinara sauce that was prepared in the mid-70's then this place is "da real deal". Old-time neighboorhood mooks can complain till their gold chains rust about "these skinny white punks ruinin' the neighboorhood" but if they had the taste to go try a place that actually cares about food preparation (like Aurora) they'd realize that hipsters even make better Italian food than their Grandma.
