WE SAYS: The comfort food younger brother of Dumont. The Dumonts have best burgers in the hood. They have yummy Mac n' Cheese for vegetarians too. See more reviews after the jump

L MAGAZINE SAYS:

The much-touted Williamsburg restaurant DuMont, after five years of service off the Lorimer L stop, has attempted to stuff its sophisticated polish into a smaller spinoff on Bedford Avenue’s southside, with rather disappointing results.

Upon walking in, one is struck by the size of the place, wondering, (as casually well-dressed locals elbow one another in an attempt to get a better hold of their admittedly delectable looking burgers), if there is not a more commodious place just around the back or something. Sadly, there is not. But fear not, a conceptually highfashion hostess is waiting to plop you down on an uncomfortably minimalist stool. Once seated you will become aware that, with the exception of the limited view from a cafeteria-style island in the center of the tiny room, there is no place to get a good look at your fellow patrons, which, as any barhopper knows, is essential for a satisfying experience. If, however, you do make the effort to swivel away from the wall, you’ll discover that the decor is nowhere near as noteworthy as the original DuMont. It’s sort of spare Japanese meets Texas ranch house, and, although it sounds daring on paper, is in actuality a bit dull.

Never a better time to order a drink. But what kind? Unless you’re sitting at the bar in full view of the spirits on offer, you must wait for your waitress, who is currently far too busy making her way through crowded aisles with various plates of food and cocktails. Having said that, they do offer a reasonably wide variety of liquor (suitable for any cocktail you can think of, as long as you know what that is), four beers on tap and six or seven bottled, as well as a few wine choices.

For a late afternoon drink with a friend, DuMont Burger is as good as anything else you'll find in the immediate vicinity. But for my money, I’d sooner walk to the original DuMont than make do with its ersatz counterpart.

NEW YORK MAG SAYS:

Like most successful enterprises, Williamsburg's DuMont has evolved from its humble roots, supplementing its basic comfort-food menu with ambitious specials. There are those customers, though, who can't see past the joint's justly-famous burger and "DuMac & Cheese," to the occasional vexation of its co-chefs. It's for those throwbacks—and the hordes of Bedford Avenue barhoppers—that owner Colin Devlin has opened DuMont Burger, a 30-seat spinoff with a full bar and simple menu of burgers, sandwiches, salads, and desserts—plus delivery and takeout.

NYC.COM SAYS

A small and neatly appointed temple to the hamburger, DuMont Burger (spin of nearby Dumont) offers a full bar, beer on tap and a high-quality, lean beef burger served on a brioche-like bun. It is de-licious and de-luxe in here. Step into a cheerful space where the brick has been meticulously cared for and accented with smooth wood and stone work, soft lighting and an interesting mix of music in the background. Friendly staff make you feel right at home as you belly up to the bar.

Notes on De-luxe: Like the "deluxe" burger many of us here in New York know so well, the DuMont burger does come with lettuce pickles, onions and tomatoes. But don’t expect the wilted and tasteless to appear on your plate. The burgers are served with two types of pickles; bread-and-butter and dill, both crisp, with that home-canned feel. The lettuce is green bib, the onions sweet purple and the tomato red beefsteak. If it is cheese you are looking for, try the blue or the gruyere (or mix them together on the same burger – it is delicious). You can choose fries or a salad, but try the fries, served with a sprinkling of fresh parsley and a crisp, fresh potato taste. They will not disappoint.

Other offerings: The menu sports a mac-n-cheese, which is made with radiatore pasta (the cork-screw type), a veggie burger, a chicken sandwich and a fish sandwich. Onion rings are also available.

Desserts: Apple crumble and Giant Chocolate Chip cookie top the list. If you can’t manage the Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie right away, get it to go. It’s a great late night treat to share.

Special notes: The full bar has several varieties of Stoli vodka, a ruby port, and some specialty liqueurs. On tap are Jever, Yeungling, and Lagunitas. Best to go alone or with a friend who is not overly concerned about personal space. The thirty-odd stools are packed around the bar and the narrow tables. The much-appreciated, trapezoidal bathroom features slate stonework and stainless steel, along with real hot water.

NY DAILY NEWS SAYS

A full bar and a short menu: There's a formula for success. It's what you get at DuMont Burger, a new café on Bedford St. in Williamsburg that's owned by the same folks as DuMont, a local favorite for ambitious comfort food, including excellent burgers.

These burgers are the stars of their new publike space, where customers perch on stools at a polished wood bar, a central island or a ledge that circles the wood-paneled room. You check the blackboard over the bar to see what you want to eat or drink (it lists wines by the glass) and order it from the waitress who brings the napkin-wrapped cutlery.

Of course you'll have a burger, a fat 8-ounce patty served on a brioche roll with or without cheddar, Gruyère or blue cheese. With it, you get lettuce, tomatoes, red onions and bread-and-butter pickles ($9.50 with salad or fries.) When we ordered ours medium rare, it arrived rosy red in the center, but the meat was so juicy that we ate it all anyway.

Those who find 8 ounces overwhelming can have a $7 miniburger. "Will it be enough?" asked my friend, expecting a White Castle or Slider. It was plenty - the size of most diner burgers, in fact - and came with the same condiments as its big brother. Red-meat avoiders can get the grilled chicken sandwich, which is usually a pretty dry affair but here is given Latin pizzazz with jalapeños, salsa and avocado slices ($9). Oddly, my favorite sandwich in this temple of red meat was the fried fish, a crunchy filet of skate on a roll slathered with tartar sauce ($10).

Whatever you order, have either the crisp fries showered with sea salt and parsley ($4) or the over-the-top DuMac & Cheese ($10), made with radiatore pasta, bacon and a luscious mix of (I assume) all the bits and pieces of cheese in the kitchen.

Yes Hip on the surface but straight up vacant beneath.
Well, this was not only pretty dull food as far as the "famous" burgers go (I can do 10 times better at home) ...but on the night I was there I watched an UTTER COW on the service staff treat every customer like a piece of SHITE... this was the first time EVER Ive refused to give any tip AT ALL!! The UTTER COW then yelled at me "IS THAT IT!!!!" I simply stared at her in disbelief...and walked out.
The interior is one of those places that is designed for the 'eyes' to look at and not for people to 'use'; visually endearing but stupidly narrow wall mounted shelves with not enough knee room beneath to enable people to eat comfortably; handsome but stupidly heavy and patheticly uncomfortable stools.
I saw no positives to comment on... or to warrant me ever returning.

yes the burgers are great, but they surprisingly serve great fish too. LOVE the salmon special w/ the mango salsa! wish they could add it to their regular menu.

Reading the reviews I was a little skeptical but decided to give it a try, and it was really good! The service was friendly and attentive, and I didn't feel rushed at all. I actually like a small menu and an abbreviated beer selection- it was simple and tasty. And yes it is a bit pricy- but what do you want this is Williamsburg. The people watching from the sidewalk seating was definitely my favorite part though!!

best burger in the city...go to mcdonalds haters

This place really does have the BEST BURGERS!!! My boyfriend never finishes anything and inhaled this burger. Must try the MAC N CHEESE, too rich to eat by yourself, I recommend sharing it with someone.

In case you didn't figure it out, it's a bar with burgers and food, not a restaurant.

Yeah, may be a bit overpriced but it's a good burger (burger snobs just love to complain "burger's too big", "burger's too small", "oh no, my burger has flavor"). If marinated meat brings back flashbacks of your mother's bad meatloaf then this is not the place for you.

And who are these veggies going to a burger joint? If you want a good veggie burger (if one even really exists) then go grab a falafel. Veggie burgers at burger joints are just to satisfy the veggie friend who happens to follow the group when they want to hit the burger joint.

Oh, and just because you don't live in Williamsburg doesn't mean you're not a hipster too (I know you dude).

umm....loved it. my boyfriend and i went there sat. afternoon for lunch. got the seat at the bar next to the open window (nice). Mac n cheese was the best! We also shared the crab cake sandwich.loved it!! bloody marys and beers. We really enjoyed ourselves and will be back.

The worst Veggie burger I've had in my life, dry dry nasty dry and absolutely zero taste plus it cost way tooooo much. You can get a Falafel for 3 bucks and they taste way better plus it's what you're getting, or you can pay Dumont to make you a flat no taste falafel for $12 with cheese and tax.
I just want to know why a burger cost the same when you kill the cow? Hello cow is dead!
NOT going back, Relish has a better burger, better veggie burger for the same price. Plus take out take forever, WORST PLACE TO TAKE OUT:0-

We ate there today and I really feel like the burger tasted like gross meatloaf. If you want meatloaf go buy a burger here.. if you want a burger go somewhere else.

decent burger. big deal. uptight rules, staff, a drag to be in...bigger deal

they've got some love affair with the front seat. My friend (with cancer) was to meet us, so I wanted the window seat so my girlfriend, myself, my friend, and son could sit together, and so they could spot us. 2 other tables in the entire front portion of the restaurant were occupied and they wouldn't let us have the window seat so my two friends (one with cancer)could spot us. A bunch of uptight drips. skip this place, by all means.

decent burgers, but delivery takes 45 min on average

i just wanted a burger. thought i'd read how dumont makes it, before i order. didn't think it would turn out to be a full-fledged rant about hipsters and what they eat. man! does anyone have a life in this neighborhood? or are you guys looking for dates on here?

These are good quotes from this page:

"The burgers are to big to actually enjoy."
Excuse me? What? Huh?

"Eat some real freakin' food already, people."

Pardon?

HA!

Wow, you Williamsburg hipsters would rave about anything if you could eat it, huh?

Dumont -- All hype. Decent burger. Nothing special. Mac n Cheese is nothing but Mac n Cheese soup with some crunch on the top.

Eat some real freakin' food already, people. Stop settling for so much crap on rye.

great burgers, mac & cheese and onion rings. i just wish they had dill pickles not bread and butter...

maybe the alcohol was so attractive, all of you forgot about food quality. where it isnt gross, it definately isnt something to enjoy. i seriously feel like a gun is being pointed at my head to eat this food, look at the facts, ur hungry and paid ALOT of money for the food and its not even worth it

the burgers are kind of too big to actually enjoy. their fries are ok, its gonna be a pain in the ass to finish them though. the onion rings, taste like crullers.

The Veggie burger is sooooo gooood! I am a huge fan!
Cute place, great service (the waitress was nice, professional, accurate, even though she was super busy).

I have done take out once and sitting inside once. both pretty good. i'm not a huge fan of Dumont proper so i was a bit skeptical. My BF and i went the other night and sat at the bar. we got the mini burgers (7bux and with fries!). for us it was the perf size, the fries were delish and the pickles were sweet and yummy. they had a few Austrian wine options which i wasnt familiar with and the bartender was nice, knowledgable and let me try a couple before i bought a glass. The only thing worth mentioning was that the burgs were slightly overcooked to what we asked for and i'm sorry but those buns arent right either. they are crusty rolls! the kind that stab you when you bite down. i think they should revisit the choice in buns. otherwise though, pretty solid and i will go back.

So sorry Bruce, the burgers are $10.30 after tax, and they come with cheese and fries or salad. They're also awesome, and by the way, Peter Luger's is spelled with an "e".

Bah 11 dollar burgers. You are all suckers. That aint no kobe beef pattie. Wheres the fois gois or even truffle. That burger would warrant $15.

So getting this delivered to ya and after tax is around $15.

And like the person before said Peter Lugar burgers are the best round here!

Just what this block of bedford needed. A cozy, comfortable joint where you can belly up to the bar for a post-drink work...or slip into a quiet corner for some luscious mac/cheese...or a "hit the spot" burger. Everyone who works there is awesome...sweet, professional and attentive. And I love that most every person who walks into the restaurant is greeted with a smile and hello...even on a super packed night. You rock, Dumont Burger.

I give the place props fgor the hours but for a place with such a limited menu you would think they'd get it right. The burger came burnt with a dinky tomato that looked like it belonged at McDonalds. I sent it back and they sent it back with uncooked fries. it was a let down.

to all you dorky foodies, the burgers were ok but THEY WERE TOO SMALL FOR THE BUNS! c'mon, when is that cool? THERE IS NOTHING BEHIND THE HYPE.

The burgers are good. All the sides are also good. But, still, the best burgers in the burg at at Peter Luger's, a five minute walk from DB and only a hair more expensive when you get them with fries. Nobody can touch their beef.

While the burger and fries are equally as good as those at Dumont, I found the mac 'n' cheese to be a step down. It may be the identical recipe, but it tasted better at Dumont. I still stand by Park Luncheonette's burger as the best in the nabe. Bonus points for their late night hours.

The Best Burgers in the Burg.

"They have yummy Mac n' Cheese for vegetarians too."

hahahaha

No one vegetarians love it, it has bacon in it.

Delicious, good beers as well.

DuMont Burger is an outstanding effort to annex the already much loved DuMont. Burger was excellent! The brioche bun is the icing...simply a sublime roll with a subtle underlying buttery-sweetness indicative of REAL brioche, not some egg-bun knock off. A great compliment to the fresh, juicy perfectly cooked burger meat. Fries were better than any I've had at the DuMont proper. Only one hang up, the Bibb salad was terribly over dressed, which caused untimely wilting. Staff is friendly, and service is quick and effecient given the 20 clowns in a Volkswagon-style seating arrangement. The wines leave something to be desired, which is unfortunate b/c Williamsburg is ready for some serious wines. Overall, really well done!

These pussies won't deliver if it's cold out. Like 40 degrees.........
