WE SAY: Puts the "old" in old school Italian food.

From Village Voice
"Eggplant rollatine is a bellwether for Neapolitan cooking-- it's so simple, yet difficult to get exactly right. The ricotta filling must be scintillatingly fresh, the thin-sliced eggplant successfully evacuated of its bitter juices, and the tomato sauce must sparkle, yet not overwhelm the other delicate flavors. No place does this dish quite like FROST, an obscure and self-effacing Williamsburg old-timer that looks like a military bunker. Don't hesitate-- push your way inside."
From NY Mag
When Frost opened in 1959, customers had to eat their calamari on the stoop. Today, third-generation loyalists hunker down on caramel-leather banquettes in the formal late-seventies dining room, where low stucco ceilings and softly-lit sconces on burgundy walls inspire cross-table conversation. On a menu where seafood reigns supreme, traditionalists will delight in baked clam appetizers, a super-buttery shrimp scampi, and a seafood marinara brimming with lobster tail meat, tender calamari, plump mussels and not-for-the-squeamish scungilli. Moving away from the sea, the Southern-Italian entrées continue to follow the old adage, "Molto e molto." ("More is more.") Plates are heaped with slabs of chicken and medallions of veal then smothered in a bright, zingy red sauce or Marsala. Don't scoff at the lack of subtlety; sop it up with your bread and be prepared to join that hour-long weekend wait only partly explained by the time it takes the regulars to kiss the waiters hello.

Comments

I don't think they want hipsters there, but the food is top notch. Try the veal marsala, or any of the fresh, homemade pastas. Wine selection could be a little broader.

Will never eat here again. Found a hair in my shrimp parm! Eww Gross!
I also vomited that night from their "special peppers"!
Beware it could cause permanent harm to you.
