This place is disgusting. It has caused so many problems for this once quiet neighborhood. Their food sucks!! The manager acts nice to keep the few lowlife customers he gets. Otherwise he promotes the loud, drunken, degenerates that wake up the block all night long on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The cops were sent their more often than the projects! Close this hole down! There windows were already smashed once...maybe they need a second time around to get the hint...GET OUT!!!

Went here for free beer Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised by the food. Catfish poppers and the chicken tenders are where it's at -- chili bbq sauce is spicy and sweet and a little chocolatey. The sweet potato fries are excellent. Suffice it to say, they know how to fry. I'll probably skip the Crab Rangoon and the fried tomatoes when I go back, but I certainly will go back.

I was there on June 27, and they were open for business, both the bar and the kitchen. Catfish poppers as delicious as ever. Rumors of Lazy Catfish's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Is it true that the lazy catfish is closing as that posts says on the 30th? Did anyone else hear this?

Lazy Catfish is no more, folks. Fairly certain it was the creepy, faux-mafioso building owner and his coke-head son & friends who did it in too. The food was fantastic but the "regulars" insisted on smoking indoors, snorting in plain view, and loudly proclaiming just how "Italian-thug" they are. Sad that nice, hard working people with a good product can't set up shop and hope to stay in business when scum-bag building owners like this run the neighborhood. Really sad.

i love this place. The catfish poppers are GREAT! Fried chicken is also good. Most the stuff fon the menu taste good. But I'm not crazy about their biscuits. And I dont think I will be trying the fried tomatoes. All in all, its a good place to eat and a good place to grab a drink with friends.

This place is horrible.I had the BBQ chicken and chicken wings as takeout. The BBQ chicken wasn't even cooked with the sauce. It was nasty. the chicken wings still had feathers stuck on them. I will never go back there.

$7 for catfish poppers and a beer is a pretty damn good deal. mm.

super sweet staff and consistently good experiences with both food and drinks. can't stop craving catfish poppers, which has redefined comfort food for me! my friends and i've hosted parties & get-togethers there -- great times.

I've only had the delivery, which takes forever, and they don't take cards either. I've found the sauteed spinach and green beans to be consistently yummalicious. I usually get the cobb salad, and when it's good it's the best i've ever had, seriously, my eyes roll back in my head good, but when it's bad it's soo dissapointing(burnt chicken and unripened avocado), such a hit or miss. Plus they are ridiculously chincy with the balsamic vinegar, last time they didn't even give me any, which is so crappy after waiting an hour. When they do it right it really is marvelous, but woah can they screw things up.

With all these mixed reviews, I just had to try this place out. The food was pretty good, not the best I've ever had, but the staff there go out of their way to make you comfy. The bar atmosphere is great. And I see a comment on a drink having too much alcohol? WOW! thats a first. But all in all, I think the place is great. I am a regular now..... Love the place.

This place sucks! Being from the South, I have overlooked their inconsistency since I like the stuff on their menu. Last time we went there, everything on the menu we asked about our waiter caveated with:
"Yeah if we're making that tonight it's pretty good."
3 things we were interested in on the main menu (no specials that night) weren't being made for some reason. The corn on the cob was cold, the green beans tasted funny and my grilled shrimp was burnt to a crisp. The peach cobbler was so mushy and soggy it was almost inedible. The martini my girlfriend ordered was nothing but vodka.

Prices keep going up, rib portions got smaller, delivery takes a very long time. BBQ chiken too, just has bbq sauce poured on top.. many better places in the area

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey's Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.

I love this place. They have the BEST brunch in Williamsburg. It is always so tasty and it comes with 3 alcoholic beverages for $13. Best deal in NYC. The owner is so friendly and goes out of his way to recognize every patron. When our TV broke, he let us come and watch the Sopranos there. Love this place.

Dumont Burger it ain't. I made the mistake of ordering the burger, which was (as described above), simply awful. I actually sent it back and cancelled my order, which is something I've never, ever done before. Inexplicably, some others at the table ended up with very delicious dishes, like the roasted vegetable wrap, catfish poppers, and crab cream cheese puffs. The calamari in particular was not at all too heavy, and cooked perfectly. The staff, while constantly running around like crazy people, were really kind and considerate, and gave the birthday girl a couple of free shots. I guess just stick to certain menu items.

Ordered from there on Valentines Day.. They delivered to Greenpoint which was nice and although it took 60 minutes the food was still hot and quite good. The smothered chicken could have been smothered more but was definitely moist and tasty. The mac and cheese was fantastic as was the mashed potatoes.. The sweet potatoe fries were not the best we have had but they were not the worst. The baked beans and spinach rounded out a great finger lickin meal.. Would order again. Curious to sit in the place and try other things as well as this new brunch I here they have...

I've ordered in twice and loved the chicken tenders as well as the BBQ chicken with Mashed potatoes. They were always friendly and even were willing to deliver during the blizzard, so they get an overall thumbs up from me!

The BEST wings, cat fish poppers and chicken tenders! Super friendly staff, too!

After a shaky start they really managed to pull it together. A large, beautiful room, good music, generous drinks and FABULOUS food. I would die for the three mustard honey sauce that comes with the chicken tenders (which were crisp and light and divine). We've been three times and will return.
So far we've ordered Cobb Salad, Smothered Chicken, Catfish, and the Tender lovin' Ribs. Sides included macaroni and cheese, corn bread, candied yams, spinach and biscuits and everything was luscious. The red velvet cake and key lime pies were phenominal, and the staff was very friendly.
Give them a try, they're delightful!

This place is pretty great in my opinion.
The cat fish poppers were awesome, the fried chicken tenders were super yummy, and the fried calamari was nice. The lazy jambalaya was awesome toos, The scenery was really nice after the reconstruction ~ the seats are lazy and comfty. Made it feel just like home, Quiet and relaxing the staff was great also, the drinks are pretty good. In my opinion I would MOST definitly go back there to eat. Keep up the great work !!!!!!!

I have giving this place 3 chances. It is never consistent. The same order always made different, is never that good, and the prices keep going up.
They should hire a real southern chef or maybe its that doomed location thats changed business so many times. Well theres always union star but damn if it doesnt take forever to get delivery. Guess i can wait longer for good food.

This place is recovering from a shaky start. When they first opened I was excited about the potential. After having several meals I vowed not to come back. They were taking to long to procure alchohol and the "southern cooking" didn't even make Cracker Barrell status. On top of that, the seating area to my bewilderment was cut in half by a row of house plants making it awkward to navigate for staff and patrons. Yes the bisquits sucked.
However, this restaurant is in the process of making corrections. They now offer a decent brunch, revamped the menu a bit, and started to offer some more adventurous specials. I had the rabbit in a mustard sauce - not bad. I can't comment on the other menu items that have failed me in the past but can only hope they have improved. The seating in the back is more manageble, and the bartenders in the front more knowledgeable (and friendly). I think they realize they've got a lot to work on. I hope they get it right this time.

this restaurant blows.avoid.throw stones when u pass by.

The hamburger was burnt black and as hard as a hockey puck. It took forty minutes for the food to be served--in an almost empty restaurant. No "Southern comfort" to be found here--my first and last visit. Horrendous. A restaurant to bring your worst enemy to.

Went here for dinner with a friend, and it was awful. Ordered the BBQ chicken that came with a side of corn. That said, the chicken was slimy and the BBQ sauce just poured on top (not cooked with it), and the corn was actually still frozen. We'll never go back and I suspect it won't last long.
Posted by: pal | June 16, 2005 02:23 AM
buttermilk biscuits were too heavy and so dry we almost choked on the crumbs. sweet potato fries were soggy like cooked spaghetti. jambalaya was pretty good. fried chicken was really good, but you could get the same stuff at crown. place was deserted on tuesday night. probably wouldn't go back.
Posted by: me | June 15, 2005 10:29 PM
maybe it's better if you sit down and eat it there, but when I got delivery from them it was pretty gross

some of the best chicken tenders ever (ask for the superb bbq sauce to go along side) - also one of the few places that has magic hat #9 on tap...
friendly staff, good burgers & ribs.

The place was empty on a Thursday night... blended margaritas were horrible. Don't order it. Jambalya was excellent. Wings were kick ass. Fried catfish with fries and cole slaw was nothing to shake a stick at. Would I go there again? Probably, but more for the bar...
