Modeled after a cabin in the Adirondacks and situated on an off-the-beaten-path Williamsburg corner, Lodge hits nearly all high notes. Sticking with the natural, open-air theme, two sides of the restaurant are thrown open to the sidewalk. Pine shipped in from upstate New York has been carved into paneling and unique carved wooden chairs. The plush lounge section near the bar, where youngsters sip mojitos, limoncello martinis, and low-price beer and single-batch bourbons, has tables made from tree stumps. Counters are made from mortar and stone, and faux antler chandeliers hang above. Dishes change slightly daily, based on greenmarket offerings. Buttermilk garden salad, beer-battered onion rings, Yukon gold fries, and doughy apple cheddar fitters are slices of the American West. Whole salmon is crispy and flaking away, matched well with a barbecue-style potato and green bean salad with mustard-mayonnaise dressing. Fried chicken is a model of what fried chicken should be, with thick battered skin and succulent, plentiful meat, offset by bitter kale and garlic mashed potatoes, both drenched in butter. Even if you're stuffed, consider ordering the understated flourless chocolate cake or the moist and compulsively eatable carrot cake. Lodge is worth the hike.
More than a dozen wines are available by the glass, and there's a wide selection of canned American beers. The single-batch bourbons are worth a try.
Recommended DishesGrilled hanger steak, $12; burger with cheese, $8; carrot cake, $6
From Village Voice
hough Lodge qualifies as a theme restaurant, I'm not quite sure what the theme is. The business card pictures a red Adirondack lodge, while the split-level interior is more Frank Lloyd Wright, furnished with irregular limestone pillars and moody dark woods. Giant windows flung open to BQE breezes display happy diners tossing back cocktails, as drivers cruise by searching hopelessly for the Williamsburg Bridge. A nautical rope shields sidewalk tables that might have been swiped from a cruise ship, and of the antler light fixtures, one of the Pratt kids noted: "I just saw those in I.D. magazine." Meanwhile, the perky waitresses—their hair piled high on their heads—strut around in pastel frocks pillaged from Judy Jetson's closet, or flaunt tattoos so extensive they constitute a diverting costume in themselves.Lodge follows the current Williamsburg predilection for cheap food and expensive drinks, and many diners begin with one of the strong cocktails--including a killer mojito ($8) served in a jar. Well, it almost killed me. It left me reeling, even before the first appetizer arrived. Some starters are distinguished, including a trio of miniature crab cakes with a roasted-corn salad that makes you wonder how they can be so generous for $10. The Pratt kids—a group of design and writing students from Brooklyn's Pratt Institute I frequently dine with—loved the apple-cheddar fritters ($6), furnished with a sweet, dark dipping sauce, though they admitted that the four doughy thumbs didn't taste a hell of a lot like either apple or cheddar. Tiger shrimp ($10) fared better, a pile of large shrimp with a crunchy, bumpy crust. Though the giant plate of outsize onion rings looks great as the waitress whisks it by, the beer-batter coating resembles a head-to-toe rubber fetishist's outfit.
If this is comfort food, it's been tweaked by cooking-school sensibilities. A $10 chicken-and-dumpling dinner drew me in one evening, even after I'd eaten a bowl of weird-but-good vegetarian pozole just down the block at Taco Chulo. I was hoping for the kind of chicken and dumplings served family-style at Stamm House in Middleton, Wisconsin--pieces of boiled chicken in a livid yellow gravy, with dumplings like small loaves of white bread, soaking up all the gravy if you don't eat them fast enough. At Lodge, by contrast, a brown-roasted half-bird is deposited in an herbal broth, with grated lemon peel decorating the skin in little artistic heaps. Shaped like French quenelles, the dumplings that cower beneath the poultry are way too small to be a threat to South Beach dieters. The biggest problem, though, is the serving vessel: a steep-walled bowl that makes picking the chicken apart in the semi-darkness a problem that only you and your dry cleaner will be able to solve. Someone at Lodge evidently agreed with me, because, as of press time, the dish has been yanked.
Here's what the Pratt kids liked: turkey meat loaf, the juicy hamburger, Yukon gold fries served with three dipping sauces, and grilled brook trout. Here's what they didn't: damp and uncrisp fried chicken, underdressed chicory salad, and the Cobb salad, which bears virtually no resemblance to the real thing. There are a couple of decent desserts too, including a flourless chocolate cake and a dense carrot cake with more cream cheese frosting than it needs. Anyway, the food will recede in importance as you drink the cocktails: Lodge wants you to get plowed.

I liked this restaurant but my new favorite has to be Rye in Williamsburg!
It just opened and I have already been twice! Its on 247 South First Street
between Roebling and Havemeyer. The chef, Cal Elliott, takes a new twist on
contemporary American styles such as the House Smoked Sturgeon with Boulangere potatoes, pancetta, frisee & horseradish, Sooo good, Followed by one of their fab cocktails! Love it!!

I love Lodge... cutest waitresses ever.... especially the lovely lady with the tattoos. The food is always consistent and I enjoy that they are health conscience and environmentally concerned! I know that I can always grab a bite and know that there are healthy options and that the food is fresh! These punk assess spending their parents money need to stop complaining and get a job! Boooyahhh!!!

I’ve eaten at the Lodge many times and 8 times out of 10 it’s been disappointing. They hired a new chief last year and the food has gotten worse. Service can be spotty and they make you wait forever. Once they served me a raw pork chop and didn’t even apologies. I’ve sent back food a few of times.
It’s a place I’d really like to enjoy y and support, because it’s owned by locals but every time I walk away telling myself why the hell did I go back.
The prices are expensive as hell, just recently I ordered a sandwich and cup of soup to go from the General Store, paid $14 for a small ass soup and sandwich. They didn’t even pack it right and the soup soaked my sandwich.
If you order delivery be prepared to wait an hour to an hour and half. The guys at the Lodge need to get it right or maybe it’s too late. This time I swear to never return unless I hear it’s changed.

I've had several excellent brunch experiences here, except for one detail: the coffee is always lukewarm and never hot. This makes every great meal not as great as it could be. I was fine with it for a while but now I'm sick of it. My girlfriend is really sick of it, she won't go back because of the coffee. So please, start serving your coffee steaming HOT!!

The food is never consistent and with the exception of one waitress the service isn't great, but the atmosphere is nice so drinks at the bar is the best way to go.

The worst service in Williamsburg, and that is saying a lot.
Posted by: apple | August 25, 2008 09:28 PM
atmosphere can be nice...but where is the waitress?? i know the girl and she still was slow as syrup.
i ended up getting a soggy salad. and the burger was simply okay.
DUMONT is very hard to beat...and I'm beginning to like RELISH again.
For delivery ANYTIME has always been reliable. Warm burger even at 4am.

While the atmosphere at Lodge is great, especially during the summer, their food has consistently gone down hill- from "Great" to "Do. not. want."
To quote a perfectly fair review: "Lodge will make your ass bleed."
And make sure to watch out for the bacon. It comes to you presented as a deep fried weaved igloo!

If you don't like this place, good luck finding something half as good in Manhattan!
I'm a new Manhattanite who went to Lodge, and Williamsburg, for the first time last night -- and loved both of them!
From these reviews it sounds like there have been service glitches in the past, but everyone was nice to us and the food was artful and made from scratch. Unbelievably fresh vegetables and herbs, and the half-jug of house wine for $15 was delicious and more than 2 people could drink. Extraordinary artichoke-cheese dip.
As for the prices, I will just refer you to the prefabricated industrial salt-saturated overpriced offerings in my unfriendly central Manhattan neighborhood. They cost double the $35 per person we spent at Lodge.
I'm recommending the place to all my friends! Sorry! Enjoy it while you can!

came in tonight and sat at the bar alone. the bartender let me try 3 reds until i found one i absolutely loved. i thought that was something special. especially in this neighborhood. left the guy a ten dollar tip on a eight dollar glass of wine. guess there's a 1st time for everything.

while I have met the owner and enjoyed his company socially, i have not heard a single positive review of lodge. my own experience almost moved me to walk out on our bill (which required going to the bar after trying to flag someone down for twenty minutes). i am a very patient diner, but having our appetizer arrive well after the entre (there were two and they arrived 5-7 minutes apart) other things clearly just forgotten, and a generally medicore if not poor(and thus overpriced) food, i was ready to give up.
maybe they have sorted out some issues, but untill i hear some good voices i can trust...no

I know people love this place, but the only time I ever got food from Lodge, a spider crawled out of my burger after my first bite. I don't recall if that bite was tasty, as it wasn't with me for very long.

My experience at the Lodge was fantastic! I'm not one to write reviews.... actually this is my first time, but I felt compelled to say the mix between the atmosphere, the service, and the food is PERFECT! Everything was just wonderful.... if I had enough money (one day) I would eat there every day. I'll be back!

I went this sunday for brunch. The place was packed. The host was very accommodating and friendly. We had to wait for a table for about 20 minutes but was always informed about where we were on the list. Our server was great. He was friendly and fast despite how busy the place was. I loved the pancakes; I was able to add strawberries. My eggs were cooked perfect. Probably the best brunch experience I've had in Brooklyn. Just remember you might have to wait a bit.

worst experience of my adult - delivery order life!
DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY!!!
twice I got the worse food, almost thought it was a joke. I did not complain the first time when my medium rare burger was well done and cold with out any ketchup or mustard or mayo- my sweet potato fries came in a greasy paper bag - stale.
this weekend my boy and I rented a movie and ordered again- I a hunters chiken with dirty mash and grilled asparagus. he a burger with white cheddar medium and we also got a strawberry short cake.
I got collard green and fingerling potatoes instead of asparagus and mash - he got american cheese- yuk- instead of white cheddar and the burger meat was well done.
the strawberry short cake was rock hard eww.
when I called and asked to speak with the manager the hostess felt pressured to deal with me and after i did not want the food remade and asked for my money back she put the manager on - I heard him screm at her for doing so.
HE TOLD me that *every restaurant in the world sacrifices quality when sending delivery* I told him dumont burger and bonita are always heavenly! he got mad and BANNED ME FROM EVER CALLING IN AGAIN! wow.
dont order delivery from here, if you want yummy food avoid this place. The manager is a SCUM BAG.
the delivery guy they sent with my money - thought it was his fault and that I was happening all night! i tipped him 5 bucks and told him that it was absolutely not his fault and that his boss was a horrible man for making him think so.
someone should egg this place.

Pricey mediocre food. It's been said before.
Posted by: John | February 22, 2008 01:16 AM
not good enough. the food isn't terrible. but it's far from great. the ingredients seem like they're of a decent quality but nothing mixes well. i had the burger again tonight and the bun was kind of tough and stale tasting. its supposedly homemade so maybe it's just the recipe. the patty seemed like it might vae been boiled rather than grilled. it was tough and held together too tightly. maybe too many bread crumbs? we also had the pumpkin ravioli on special which was just laughable. it was way off balance in flavor, as if a spice that should have been used sparingly was spilled into the mixture accidentally. we figured we'd not make a fuss but when we got the bill we were shocked to see that the ravioli was $21 bucks! for 4 pieces!
for some reason the place is always busy. the decor is great and the service is always good but the food is just not good enough.

Mediocre food with horrendous service. There is no need to recount my experience; see prior entries they are pretty accurate.

I went there for brunch today. Great burgers, good coffee, nice service. I will come back.
Posted by: Kris | May 13, 2007 07:07 AM
i was lured in by the prospect of sitting outside on a nice summer evening. i've since been pushed away from ever returning by the stinch of garbage two feet from our table and the dirt blowing into my food when there is the slightest wind.
I suggest eating in the garden at dumont or sweetwater where you don't have to watch dogs "do their business" while waiting for your meal.
Posted by: eat at dumont | May 8, 2007 11:30 PM
I go to lodge for brunch almost every weekend. Great food. The servers are cute and nice but, sorry, dumb as bricks. If two people each order a burger, then they should both get that burger at the same time, NOT 20 minutes apart. It happened two weekends ina row, WTF? This has never been an issue at any restaurant for me ever. Maybe I've been lucky. PS- The Blueberry pancakkes are almost worth the dumb-blonde waitresses posing as dark-haired hipsters.

I just went there this weekend for brunch for the first time. I don't know if it may have sucked in the past or not, but right now, it is AWESOME. definitely a place I would return to, especially with friends from out of town.
Posted by: gorditabanana | April 10, 2007 06:26 PM
I like Lodge. There is a good assortment of beer and liquor. The people that work there are cool. Its just a neighborhood hangout. I like the burger there too.
Posted by: Sparrow | December 3, 2006 11:38 PM
I went for brunch and vowed never to return, I mean how can you screw up an omelette?
But then I think hey maybe the dinner is in a whole other ball park of posibility!
I returned with a friend and had an ok time untill I found bits of wire in my spinach, my friend informed me that it was a metal tie they use to bundle it. the waitor was apologetic and took the meal off the bill, but I was creeped out.
this was about 3 months ago,so things may have improved, but I wanted to share my story. having seen that other people have had bad experiences.
I think this place could be great if they cared as much about the quality of food and service as they did about the decor.

I recently placed aphone order from Lodge and then called back 60 seconds later to cancel. I've simply had it with the snotty attitudes and poorly prepared food these new neighborhood restaurants are offering. No more Lodge, Coney's, Union Picnic etc. They're run by novices with pipe dreams. Save your money! Cook dinner with friends! Go somewhere fairly established. Not every restaurant is bashed on this site...just the ones that suck...

good god, this place is horrible. i went for brunch last month and had the worst service ever. we ordered drinks which were promptly served then placed our order. the beatles - abbey road was just beginning when we placed the order. guess what, we heard the ENTIRE thing. after the had passed we asked the waiter where our food was and we were told the kitchen was slammed. i dont know how the kitchen could be slammed when there were tons of empty tables. anyways i wasn't really mad at that point... we ask if we can at least get another round of drinks because if we were kept buzzed we'd at least be able to deal with the time. 20 more mminutes pass and our drinks aren't out!!! at this point i ask for the manager and tell him i want to pay for 1 of my 2-4-1 bloody marys and dip out IMMEDIATELY, at this point the manager apologizes profusely and then brings out drinks. since i stood up i wasn't about to sit down again so i left. anyways my friends stayed and the manager had the audacity to try to charge them for the meal i never saw!!!
2nd time i got dragged out there on a friday night to go drinking. i see the bar isn't slammed so i walk up and the 2 bartenders are talking. both of my roommates are bartenders at some of the busiest bars in manhattan so i have a LOT of patience and sympathy for bartenders. that shit is a hard job! anyways, the 2 bartenders see me but continue to talk for 5 minutes!!!!!!!!!! what the fuck man, i can understand a minute or two, but holy shit dude i know exactly what i want, its a beer and not some fancy ass martini, and you're STILL making me wait.
to conclude, i think this place is the worst. don't go there if you can help it.

Argh!
what happened to this place? my sister was in town recently and i thought it would be fun to take her out for dinner. I was embarassed because it did NOT seem the same as i remember. Whered the hip, cool vibe and hotties go? everything was kinda jerk-ish. i dunno, maybe it was an off night. food along with everything else was blah.
im not opposed to giving it another shot because ive had some fun nights there in the past, but overall it was pretty lame.
i guess everything jumps the shark at some point.

AND THE SERVICE IS GREAT. AND ALSO WHO EVER IS SAYING THAT SOMETHING ILEGAL GOES ON IS JUST IGNORANT DANY IS THE OWNER IS JUST A FAMILY SWEET GUY HIS KIDS AREW THERE EVERY DAY WHO EVER IS POSTING THAT SHOULD THINK BEFORE TALKING LIKE THAT ABOUT SOMEONE DECENT AND GREAT LIKE HIM. OVER ALL LODGE IS A GREAT PLACE.

MC&IC is obviously an employee at Lodge given the advertisement for General Store. But guess what, we're not bored and your wait staff truly sucks ass. We don't even bother going for dinner anymore, as each time has been either a disappointment or a disaster. Stick to brunch, at least they can't fuck up an egg.

Ok. This is seriously what sucks about new york dining. On 2 different occasions, I have had such a miserable experience at this place that have to say: please, for the love of god, do not endure the horrible experience of this place. The food is mediocre, and who ever said it was inexpensive is full of it: $25 for a dry pork chop 'special' is NOT ok.
One of the major problems with this place is the style of waiting they have set up, its a free-for-all. Everyone waits on all the tables, so noone is responsible for one. Its called sections, people. Millions of restaurants can't be wrong.
First time:
A couple tables. Certainly not crowded, and we aren't all seated at the same time or anything. So. We order drinks. Beer and a vodka-salty dog. Over thirty minutes pass. No drinks. No food order taken. Politely ask about drinks. Waitress looks at me like I just shat on her favorite dress. Other waitress brings a beer, but no salty dog. We ask her to take our order, and she says she'll be right back. 20 minutes pass. Still NO drink. I ask about that and ask to have our order taken. She finally brings the drink and says haughtily says that they didn't know how to make it, and that's why it took so long. Cause asking us wouldn't be ok.
AN HOUR LATER, our food still isn't there. I am pissed by now. I eat two bites of my food cause I am beyond hungry. Our bill is wrong.
2nd time-- thinking it was just a fluke, is still no better.
just save your money and time and go somewhere else.

Lodge is awesome. The service is great, the food is the BEST, and the owner is such a nice guy.
I honestly don't get why so many people write such mean, bad reviews.
Everyone who writes those reviews are probably just bored and have nothing better to do.
Lodge is great! =)
And smart people who like lodge should try general store. delicious sandwiches and great coffee!

Awful, awful shithead of a waiter. Literally treated us with hate from the word go. I've lived and dined in NY, Chicago and LA for 15 years and have never more acutely wanted to punch a waiter in the face. Food was not prepared as ordered. Honestly, fuck this palce.

I ate at Lodge the second night that they were open. The atmosphere hasn't changed although it is much more crowded. I honestly am thankful for the fact that this place hasn't been taken over by Manhattan masses. It's still one of the best places to get drinks and food outside late at night in Williamsburg.

I went to Lodge this past Friday with trepidation after reading the great number of negative reviews on this site; however, some friends had said they liked it and so I decided to give it a shot. Sadly, the negative reviews were definitely correct. Now that i've tried Lodge, i can say wholeheartedly that it is probably one of the biggest wastes of money in all of Williamsburg. Neither me nor any of the other four people in our party enjoyed our meal. I ordered the fried chicken, which was bad enough just that it cost $13 (with kale and potatoes or fries), but it was easily the most flavorless fried chicken i've ever had before. Seriously, it was worse than the crap KFC serves (which, though gross, at least has some kind of flavor to it). Fried chicken ordered by my friend was equally as bad. Also bad were a fried shrimp dish (crappy not just because it was flavorless and below Jersey Shore boardwalk quality, but also because the menu didn't mention the shrimp was served fried). Mussels ordered by friends were less bad, but nowhere close to "good" or even "flavorful". Keeping in mind the whole time that none of this food is inexpensive only worsened the pain after the meal was over. The only positives i can say is that my fries were decent, and that they have an assortment of $2 canned beer (Schlitz, Reingold, etc), which barely begins to offset the silly cost of the terrible food. Also, the dining area is spacious, so you at least won't feel cramped while you eat your sub-mediocre food.
BOO!!

Slop. Hasn't changed since day one. Shame it hasn't improved the food. But the location has seemed doomed for years. One bad eatery after another.
Sure, go drink and enjoy the antlers. But don't expect a satisfied tummy.

I recently went to Lodge for the first time for brunch and was terribly disappointed. The service was terrible. My coffee was cold and my friend got tea which was an overstuffed bag is a small cup of hot water. Didn't you know that most people use pots now a days? The food was greasy and unexceptional. It seems obvious that this place is trying to bite off of Diner as much as possible, even more so that they are opening a deli next door. Go to Diner instead.
Posted by: local | June 6, 2006 08:34 PM
Decent brunch, and they finally grasped the concept of having salt and pepper on ALL the tables. Took them long enough. Now if only they could add a couple 'standard' teas to their list. We went to their brunch several times, and each time my husband who doesn't drink coffee would ask for green tea. Sorry, don't have it - you want mint? You have mint but not green tea? Who doesn't offer green tea these days? How about walking across the fucking street to C-Town and buying some then? Jesus.

I was at Lodge last night and had a great time. I had my kids with me and I felt very comfortable being there with them. The owners are always there with their kids and make you feel super welcome. Great place for having a good dinner w/ the kids! Good to know in Williamsburg with all the places that have that anti-kids vibe.

recently, heard from a guy in queens this place is a cover-up for a lot of bad shit. like the new yorker said more than just beer comes out of a can at lodge. but, more importantly, supporting young kids getting popped and hooked on who knows what is not my idea of a place i want to frequent.

Lodge is my favorite place for brunch. It's the best. Trout and eggs are amazing. The bloody maries are incomparable and plentiful. The atmosphere is great. The whole place rules, basically. From their website to their decor to their late 70s/early 80s lite/ironic choices of musical backdrop (see: "Rhinestone Cowboy"), Lodge is more interested in cultivating their theme than they are their food, which is sub-par at best. Someone should tell them that you can't eat a scene.

oh god this place needs help.. FAST!
i can safely say that I'd be perfectly happy if i never go into Lodge again.
THE FOOD IS TERRIBLE, with a capital T !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i've had brunch there and dinner and they were both over priced and crappy. the coffee sucks, it's freezing in there during the day and the service is crappy. i went to bed with a stomach ache after waiting for my food for an hour!
the tainted lady is right around the corner, go there, the food is better and the music is too.
just because some new rich kids moved into the hood does not mean that we are all suckers for a $8 mochito, please!

this place is excellent! the food is awesome. i go for brunch there as often as i can. ttwo mimosas or bloody marys for six bucks. and the best damn steak and eggs i think i have partaken in in a while!

The place is beautiful but the food is not the best.

the pork chop was FANTASTIC!!!!! cute and friendly waitresses, good wine and tasty food.
Posted by: sarah | February 3, 2006 06:01 PM
so so. the appetizers are better than the entres. ask about the prices for the specials before your order them.
beer is either on tap (okay selection) or canned. Not sure what they have against bottles. corona is bad enough without the aluminum aftertaste. shlitz does not go well with anything.
service mixed. waitress gave us a realistic estimate of the wait and we were summoned from the bar promptly when the table was ready. then it went downhill. waited forever for water, didn't take our entre order until after we were finished with the appetizer. porkchop was tough and fatty with a tasteless cheese sauce. turkey meatloaf was much better.

forget lodge and diner........MOTO, DUMONT and SWEETWATER are the best places to eat in williamsburg!
Posted by: ben | January 3, 2006 01:49 AM
i ate at lodge this evening with my boyfriend. we walked by the restaurant several times during the summer and thought this chilly night would be a perfect time to check out the place. i would say lodge is at best mediocre: luckily, food far surpasses service and cheesy atmosphere. first of all, it's dreadfully heated and we sat through our meal wearing hats and scarves to keep warm. after forgettable salads, we sat with our plates in front of us for twenty minutes while being forced to listen to the hipster drivel of waitresses having a very leisurely staff meeting two seats down from us. it was innapproapriate. finally, we recieved our main courses. my meatloaf was an excellent texture with great spices, and the gravy doused stuffing was warm and comforting. my boyfriend's trout was light and airy, cooked very well. lodge is ok, but moto, dumont, and diner take the cake...

Is it just me or are the reviews here almost useless? Everyone has a strong opinion: either "it sucks worse than anything forget about even thinking of this place" OR "It's the best thing since orgasms! Go here NOW!" Useless! The summary you get from reading a blend like that is "go find out for yourself".

WARNING!
Eating at Lodge may lead to necessary medical attention!

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE EXTERIOR! this place sucks!!
compare to moto or dumont it's not even worth stepping near.
the wait staff is slow and inattentive. the food is greasy. the men are dirty looking. and recently two friends told me they barfed an hour after eating dinner at lodge. i will never step foot in that place again.

I went here in September and I have to say I thought it was kinda pricey for what it was. Our waitress was a total flake.

this was the best place i ate at in my intire life! the burger and fries with a cob salad were awesome!!!!!! the $2 can beers are the crap (they rock)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all of the other drinks are cheap and delicious too. GO TO LODGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i really want to like this place but i just dont. i have given them many, many chances and i am always disappointed. the only thing i go back for is the any style eggs brunch and it isn't consistant. if you are going to spend that much make it worth it.

checked out lodge last night and was loving it... it was pouring so the patio was obviously closed, but inside it was totally cozy and woodsy and so not industrial williamsburg... sat by the window and felt half in a rural log cabin somewhere and half in an edward hopper painting. food was great, i got the avocado salad (awesome sweet/tangy combo, with roasted corn and lemon dressing) , then we had the turkey meatloaf and veggie plate-- both totally perfect for these increasingly cool nights. split a really nice inexpensive bottle of argentinian red wine and had rich, delic choc cake for desert, with a nice port. had the friendliest, cutest waitress too.
overall, love the place. i've lived in the southside hood for years and am thrilled to see something NICE come our way! lodge has really brightened the area in my eyes. (ps it was surprisingly cheap overall-- entrees about $10, the wine $20. the bill was a pleasant surprise!)

i just ate at Lodge and had a wonderful experience!! my friends and i shared a salad and the crabcakes to start- both delicious! we followed with the monkfish, a steak, the trout and a cheeseburger; all of them were perfect! we had chocolate and carrot cake to finish. one of the coolest things about Lodge was the 1/2 gallon jug of wine we all shared for only $29!! we all left full, happy and a little tipsy!! A++++

The food at lodge rocks. i love the cheap drinks and the great cozy lounge and dining area. I think my favorite dish is either the monk fish or the seafood stew. my favorite apitizer is the crab cakes and the fried tiger shrimp. their deserts are awesome. i could die for the flowerless chocolate cake and the pumkin pie gelato.
GO TO LODGE!!!!!!!!!

The decor is adorable, the music is great, the service was friendly -- and the food is patently awful. They left the retractable windows open, too, which meant I sat through the entire meal wearing my coat. My food was so bad that I ended up mostly just picking at it, but I guess I ate enough to make me sick, since I spent the rest of the evening being violently ill. Obviously I won't be going back.

The room does indeed have great atmosphere, and would certainly be a nice enough place to chill out with friends or without as I did. The skirt steak I went for was excellent, but I seemed to dissappear to the wait staff as I came by myself and didn't have four friends sucking down PBR's every two minutes.

We ate here the other night and loved it! The can beers are $2. I had the turkey meatloaf sandwich and it melted in my mouth. My boyfriend had the burger and said it was fantastic. We will be back.

the lodge is good, cheap, and reminds you how sometimes going to a restaurant can make you feel like your nan is cooking dinner.
drink beer (it is $2 a can). drink manhattans if you like (they are only $9, which is justified by their fecking enormous size and pricing parity with everywhere in new york). the food is greasy, the wait staff have no real idea of what is going on, the owners haven't realised a restaurant needs a host to function properly - but it is still great. really great.

I LOVED the room. It was large and spacious, a fete in itself in Brooklyn, and also all wood-paneled and dark and warm as well. The large wondows brought in a gorgeous breeze. The drinks were a bit pricey and not particuarly fabulous but for bourban and beer you can't go wrong.
We started with the apple cheddar fritters which were AMAZING, then had chicken and dumplings and the turkey meatloaf. the chicken and dumplings were uninspired, but the turkey meatloaf was delicious. Everything is home made, fresh and, with the exception of the bland chicken and dumplings, delelctabe.
Well worth a second visit, if only for the original atmophere and an order of thier amazing fries.

I'm confused, the restaurant we went to last night had the most amazing food! I bet the kitchen had to work some kinks out during the first month... I think Lodge has been open 6 weeks...so I'd take the other negative reviews with a grain of salt... Personally, I prefer to wait a bit to try new place so that kitchen/wait staff get their rhythm together.
This place makes their own rolls, ketchup etc. and was so tasty, I wanted to cry and write to mom. Cobb Salad, Burger, Apple Cheddar sand-o, Chicken & Dumplings - all totally delish. The food is a bit heavy for this 96 degree weather but I have a feeling I will be living at the Lodge come fall/winter.

So the antlers are white, acryllic and enormously expensive, and the overall atmosphere is more design magazine kitchen than genuine lodge but there's space aplenty, a laid back vibe and the promise of the Tainted Lady next door to recommend Lodge.
Service can be spotty and the food is still working itself out - we both ordered the fish and had radically different experiences but when the summer heat is receeding into night, the big windows are open and the lights fade to serenade mode it doesn't get much better
A welcome addition indeed

I really love the staff here. Cheap canned beers. Busch and Bud in cans with a nice halibut dinner. You can't go wrong.

At at Lodge last night -- food was excellent! Had the Turkey Meatloaf sandwich -- very tasty, a bit spicy and excellent bread / biscuit. Fries were better than average and a fab flourless chocolate cake for dessert topped off a fun night. Cheap prices will bring me back...but drink ahead of time. Beer prices are not bad but the mixed drink prices will get you.

The atmosphere at Lodge is fantastic. I love the outdoor seating and the decor. Great people watching. UNFORTUNATELY, the only thing worth coming back for is the burger. I ordered the special entree one night and when the bill came, it was three times as expensive ($25!) as anything else on the menu -- I wasn't warned. My brunch the next week was the smallest dish ever, and I swear it was a dollar more on the bill than on the menu. AND the snooty ex-model running the place isn't even slightly welcoming. Try TAINTED LADY next door is AWESOME for brunch instead.

expected great food from the lodge, was served absolutely inedible slop. the menu doesn't give you a real description of the food - ordered the shrimp expecting something fresh tasting and grilled and got greasy fried food with nothing but soy sauce as an accent. the cobb salad was a plate of the most oily greens imaginable. the green salad was not green, it was white - from being coated in too much dressing. the burger looked and tasted much like the meatloaf, and was dripping grease. when we complained about the food, we were told that it was unfortunate that it was "not to our taste" - not comped for anything but the shrimp, which was sent back as soon as it arrived at the table. the lodge is horrible, overpriced, overrated, and disgusting. better food, atmosphere, and service can be had at diner, dumont, or relish.

Good atmosphere, great food. Everything is homemade, from the ketchup to the rolls they serve their sandwiches on. The turkey meatloaf and chicken and dumplings are very tasty.

met up with friends there for a drink and some food. loved it. the music was good and loud. wait staff were cute and friendly.ordered the turkey meatloaf and was well impressed. although it was a bit much for a muggy summer night- come December that will be a weekly necessity. also really enjoyed the faint smell of wood ( ceder perhaps?) that they used to give it the rustic feel. if only I lived in Mammoth lake for real...oh well, lodge is the next best thing.

This was a fun place to enjoy a glass of wine outside on a summer day. Great music, excellent food (especially the halibut), and a friendly wait staff make this place worth returning to!

met a friend at lodge for drinks one night a few weeks back. the fact that they made their own maraschino cherries was neat, but my wife would have preferred the sweeter real (erh, fake) things in her manhattan.
i had a mojito, and it was the weirdest one i've ever had. not recommended for the mojito. and year, it was freakin' expensive.
Posted by: peter royal | July 13, 2005 03:52 AM
The food here is alright. The atmosphere is quaint. The food prices are low. The drink prices are laughable. We were offered the mojitos and jumped on them. They ended up being 10 bucks a pop. Ridiculous. Gave it another shot for brunch and got stuck with miniature 8 dollar mimosas. Ridiculous. Maybe the food will get better and the drink prices will come down to a realistic level. Until then, there are better places in the hood.
