NY MAG SAYS: The sophomore eatery from the owner of Williamsburg’s factory-turned-restaurant My Moon, has quietly opened to the public. The menu skews to the north Mediterranean: Greek, Italian, Spanish, but like My Moon, mostly Turkish -- grilled pizzas, meatball casserole, cheese plates, and several meze. Owner Bener Bilgin has joined with his front-of-the-house manager and another Turkish restaurant friend to open the 70-seat spot across the street from McCarren Park. Though designed by the same artist who gave My Moon its airy, performance-space feel, this smaller location has a more intimate look. Several tall glass-top bar tables are inlaid with stones and sea shells, and there’s a glassed-in kitchen. Plus, Bilgin claims to own the only restaurant in the city that serves Turkey’s Efes Pilsner on tap

Metromix says:
There's nothing too Turkish about the name ("lokal" = "local", big stretch), and there's nothing too Turkish about this eclectic bistro in Greenpoint, either, run by the Turkish owner of Williamsburg's My Moon. Only the red snapper is reminiscent of fare in the former Ottoman Empire; the rest is more simple Mediterranean bistro cuisine like mussels, paninis and burgers. Still, the place has a fun vibe, with striped banquettes and colorful tiles, and a great addition to the Polish/hipster neighborhood

I dream about the french fries from here, they are seriously to die for. thin, crispy, and tossed in fresh rosemary.

I've eaten here several times with friends, the food is always great though I should mention as a vegetarian I've only sampled the non-meat dishes. The veggie panini is excellent, the ricotta ravioli is yummy, and their margherita pizza is always a great choice. The friends I've brought here have really enjoyed it also. It's a great location and the staff doesn't usually mind when we linger over drinks after our meal (provided it's not slammed).

Not worth it.
We've been there 3 times, the first when they just opened. My Chicken 'panini' I could have bought from the deli across the street. My wife's $18 steak was not cooked properly.
So we chalked that up to new restaurant hammering out a new menu, and went back for brunch. Brunch was not terrible, but not great for the $, and the $3 'latte' was not much more than regular coffee with milk in it.
My mother in law got sick from the turkey burger.
I wouldn't go for dinner (ever again) but would consider it for brunch or sitting outside for a pre-dinner drink.

Ate there for the first time last night. I thought the food was good, not great. But the atmosphere and prices make it worth the trip. I'm looking forward to trying some different things on their menu; it's certainly got lots of yummy options.

Lokal is great! Their turkey burger is my favorite burger ever. I highly recommend any of their burgers. The calamari is great too. Reasonable prices, friendly staff. Ignore the haters.

When they open the walls/windows, it's like having a picnic in the park, without the ants. But with very tasty food. Try the Turkish beer.

Not very good. The service is really inattentive and overwhelmed if more than two tables are in the restaurant. The ever-present rosemary sprig and/or seasoning is not appropriate for every dish. It needs work, unless, of course, you don't really care about what you are eating and just want to go somewhere and pretend you are cool.

The place looks and fills really comfortable but the food is too bland.
