FROM CITYSEARCH: A smattering of paintings by local artists and red walls constitute the bulk of the decor at this Mexican-American cafe. Comfy, worn-out armchairs provided sip spots for cappuccinos and lattes during the day, while servers sling burritos, tacos and burgers to the table seats in the evening. Locals swear by the fish tacos and complain about the sometimes pokey service. The long bar doubles as a pastry counter and mini library stocked with pamphlets from the neighborhood.
From New York Magazine
"Opened in 2003 by Steven Camarillo and Lori Erlitz, this inexpensive restaurant by the BQE has a hip yet all-embracing feel. Its prefab decor of fake brick and stone-face walls-remnants of its former incarnations as a coffee shop, five-and-dime and, according to local legend, funeral parlor-is embellished with tin ornaments, Loteria cards and a glowing tank of exotic fish. Hearty entrees on the Mexican/Southwestern menu include fish tacos, which hold a flavorful, battered filet of sole with ripe fixings, beans and yellow rice plus tartar sauce by request; and Yoli's enchiladas, topped with a mild green sauce, and best enjoyed with tender chicken rather than too-tough steak. Brunch draws an amiable crowd for crunchy French toast and delicious "Cele"citos-crispy corncakes with eggs, jack cheese and skin-on home fries. Service is reliably lackadaisical, but always friendly. -Karen Hudes

Comments

the people who wrote that this food is good are as disgusting as the food itself. they all must be from the midwest. talk about roaches. f*cking gross. gross. yuck.

the chorizo scramble f*cking rules. this place consistenly has great fresh mexican food.

You are soooo wrong!!! Lolas Rocks!! Some times places have an off nite. They have a great mac and ches!! they put like 5 diffrent kinds in. Like i said... We all have an off nite. I stand by the place It is mexican food made by mexicans. the way it should be.

Who goes out for Mexican and orders Mac n' Cheese‽‽‽ That is simply retarded! Unless you ordered it for your three-year-old.

Being from California, I miss my Mexican food and this is the closest thing to real, good Mex I have found in NY. Even when I lived in Spanish Harlem the food didn't compare to Lola's. I always order the chicken tacos and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the chicken. And they don't fuck up the rice by adding peas and carrots like many other places here do. The beans seem to be the only thing that they haven't got right. They are still good, just not very Mexican.

Where should I start? This is hands down the worst food in Williamsburg. We ordered a ton of food and spent a pretty penny. The most appetizing part of the meal was the Pepsi. The Mac n' cheese was nothing more than shells and wiz at 7 dollars, hardly worth tasting let alone buying. The chicken used left such a gross after taste in our mouths that I'm thinking of going vegan. Bottom line- we want our money back. If you are looking for Mac n' Cheese try Dumont, Relish or Union Picnic(best comfort food in town). If you want Mexican go to BEAN and if you want to be grossed out stick with LOLAS. Our final review, "Gag us with a spoon"

Really yummy, but SLOOOOOOW at dinnertime (not at brunch, interestingly).

yummy, fun and cute waitresses
