Really, really bad. And I like cheap greasy Indian fast food as well as the good stuff.
I've visited a few times hoping each time it was not as bad as I remembered... I am always disappointed. How is there no other curry joint around these parts?

Genuinely awful. Convenience cook-in sauce type flavor. Same texture and consistency for every dish.We threw it away and made toast.

they gave us free tea last time. food's always hot and delicious, and their servers are always very friendly.

I really wish people would start leaving complaints with NY 311, so this place goes out of business. And I can't believe they changed their name to avoid all the previous horrible reviews.

Never again. We love indian food, but after such terrible service we have banned this place, for-ev-er...for-ev-er...for-ev-er. I wish a new indian place would open up!

We ordered food, waited around for a minute and the guy comes out of the back, with the food in one hand and his other was rammed up his nose trying to unclog his nose. My man was almost knuckle deep, and all the while was extending his arm to hand us the food...so ya, eat at yer own risk...

seriously why is this place still in business?! It's horrible. everyone knows it. we should all pool our money and travel to india to persuad ANYONE to come back with us and whip these a-holes into shape.

this place probably the wrost indian place EVER. you would think that in the recent years with the "bbq" and "thai" places, some motherfucker cant figure out to open a respectable indian place? COME ON!~

This place is has the worst service on the phone and in person...ever. I have been there several times only because of no other options. Kitchen of Bengal that used to be on Bedford right around the corner from this place, great service, and friendly!! They had the best Saag Paneer, samosas and naan ever and closed down because of getting priced out by the owners of the building, now we have Subway there, thanks. But Taj Mahal is simply the worst. The manager got mad at me for wanting to sit closer to the windows and so me and my friend just walked out. Their food is terrible and they are not getting my money again. Don't go there. Someone please open a great Indian place.

Food is sub par. We have eaten here several times and found the food to be mediocre. But combine this with their nasty service and their rude management and you have a recipe for disaster. I suggest you find another spot if you like Indian food.

pretty decent food, a little better than the 6th street places, but nothing to rave about. Hits the spot when you're craving indian and don't feel like leaving the neighborhood. The service can be bad though, and their delivery guy is a dick.

Terrible service. Went in to get take-out and the person taking my order was rude and kept asking me if I wanted more food when I told him that I just wanted biriyani. When I tried to pay for my entree which was $9.75 with my debit card the same person said that they only take credit with a $10.00 minimum. After that I was too sick of the service so I cancelled my order. They are rude and unfriendly. I don't mind driving this place out of business.

Of all the things linking the Burg to the East Village, this is the strongest. It is a mediocre East 6th-style place that charges more because it has a monopoly. Someone please open a good Indian place here!

This place is awful! I ordered the Chicken Saag. It didn't really taste like Chicken Saag I've had at other places. I spend most of the rest of the evening in my bathroom with the runs! Avoid this place at all cost!

went here sat night with 3 friends. food was tasty. nothing jaw dropping, but simple good indian food. service was nothing special, but i was expecting much. i'd go back.

DON'T DO IT! I tried it once--horrible. Tried it a second time--horrible. Tried a third time---guess what, horrible. I'm a bit slow but I've learned the lesson. With so many good restaurants in the area, go somewhere else.

Awful, simply awful. My wife and I tried this place about a year and a half ago, not good, really oily vindaloo, and a delivery that took just under 2 hours. We had a coupon for 2 for 1 entree from the entertainment.com book that we purchased. We decided to give the place another try, hoping things had improved. I went to pick it up, and I was told that they had no affiliation with the coupon book. I was about to pay the regular price, giving up on a valid and legitimate coupon, but the man continued to be rude, so I walked out and told him our order would now be his dinner.

absolutely the worst plate of indian food i've ever eaten. period.

Food is mostly okay but extremely stingy, and service is abysmal. Banana pakora is one of my favorites, yet these are made with tiny chunks of banana and are mostly just deep-fried spiced chickpea flour. Make sure you ask for basmati rice when ordering take-out or delivery, or you won't get any, even though it's supposed to come with the meal. Also be sure to ask for disposable plates/utensils if you need them, or they will not provide. When ordering delivery, expect the person on the other end of line to behave as if they would rather be doing anything else besides talking to you.
But the food is good, otherwise. One thing they are not stingy with is the breads, even if the poori does arrive flat, and their biryanis come with lots of meat - even the more expensive ones like lamb. Never had over- or under-cooked food.

When I first moved to Williamsburg I tried this place and it sucked! The service was great and friendly, but the food was bland, bland, bland. Also, we got some cheese naan (cheese bread), and the cheese was melted American! Gross!

Imperial Palace on Manhattan Ave in Greenpoint is the real deal.
Pass on this place.

this place blows. anybody who thinks this is good curry has never eaten the real stuff.
and they are slow.

Chicken Curry is excellent! Although delivery man was a little flirty.
Posted by: Dilip | September 17, 2005 01:35 AM
I'm not a great fan of this place. The Chicken Saag does not resemble any any chicken saag I've ever eaten before. Unfortunately, Williamsburg is lacking in good indian food all around, but if I had to pick a place to eat, this would be the last option. Kitchen of Bengal was a little bit better, now it's known as Imperial Palace and has moved to Greenpoint.

I also regularly pick up food from taj mahal. Its nothing to rave about but it is always fine if you are craving some indian cuisine... Its a little on the bland side as far as indian food goes - but the ingredients are always fresh. The vegetable samosas, however, are very very yummy, and not bland at all.
Posted by: chundra | August 29, 2005 01:47 AM
i pick food up from taj mahal regularly and have never had a problem. always ready in 15-20 minutes. always good. then again, never had the vindaloo. i stick to the masala and korma.

there was some saran wrap baked into our naan. we were eating in. we didn't say anything. but, um, yeah. baked in!
Posted by: al | June 6, 2005 01:26 AM
i just ate the worst indian food.... ! the chicken vindaloo must've accidentaly had a gallon of oil dumped in to it. the vegetable pakora tasted like plastic packaging and the chutney's had a pissy runny like consistency. awful!

i have ordered delivery from this place and waited two hours, still it never came. i called and they didnt care about their poor service and just told me there wasnt anything they could do about it and hung up. if you're hungry...order from somewhere else. oh yeah..i called and told them i will post this review and they offered to deliver me free food... but i declined because their BS wasnt worth it.

they have a roach problem
Posted by: roach | April 23, 2005 12:05 AM
dangerous, eat at your own risk.
Posted by: leonardo | April 9, 2005 12:54 AM
ive only gotten delivery - but it's way better than that place (that closed down i think) on bedford. they have really yummy veggie options. if you like spice, you have to ask for it though. saag paneer is my fave. yum.
