METROMIX SAYS: Adventurous types can feast on pig knuckles and legs at this authentic Central European joint. Those looking to play it safe can try one of many unique soups, such as sour grass, white borscht, or pickle soup; the beef goulash over potato pancakes is an excellent choice, too.

From Village Voice
"When the frigid wind knifes off the East River, pop into this Polish cafe for a bowl of sour grass soup, made with strong meat stock fortified with cream. The little bits of sour grass floating on the top look like something mowed in your backyard, if you only had a backyard. A hardboiled egg is submerged, and alongside comes a loaf-shaped mass of mashed potatoes sprinkled with plenty of crumbled-up bacon. You're supposed to dump the potatoes and bacon into the soup, which turns a light meal into something much more substantial. By the way, it's delicious."
