She's not gone - I'm sure of it. She's always incredibly nice to my girlfriend and I. Anyone who thinks she is mean/annoying is way too uptight.

I think the funny lady is gone now. Which makes me kind of sad, because she used to give me free sake to stash in my purse. She would always say,"Hide the evidence sweety..". But yeah, I just ate there a couple times this past week and she was gone. SO I guess for everyone that didn't like to go there because of her, it's "safe" now. Unless she's on vacation....

Oh yeah, and try the mushroom soup, I can't live without it.

You all just need to get over it! You live in NY now. If you can't handle a little annoying woman then you got problems. From the day it opened it was the best and still is the best sushi restaurant in Greepoint/Williamsburg.

I still go there all the time because the food is good. But that waitress has lost her charm. first time it was funny, now she just bugs the shit out of me. I've avoided going there because I can't handle it. If she calls me "sweetie" one more fucking time... and I'd be pissed if I found out that she was ripping me off. God I hate that woman

I've been going to Sapporo Haru for years and know this notorious waitress very well. She's never been rude to me. She has always been kind and personable and recognizes me everytime i walk in. I've never been overcharged by this restaurant. My experiences there have always been excellent.

I'll continue going to this restaurant and recommending it to friends as long as I'm in this city.

give the woman a break, it dosent sound like shes a full blue american, like the rest of you are? anyways, the kitchen is decent, and the sushi is quite acceptable. Basically good japanese food, minus the effort.

OMG, I used to live in the neighborhood and I have the same experience with that horibly annoying woman. When I was in the mood for sushi there was nothing around except for Wasabi and the food is gross there. I would walk by and see if she was there and hope that she wasn't. When i was really craving it, I would hope she wouldn't be as rude and annoying as usual but no way..A real PAIN IN THE ASS! No cuteness here at all. Just rude! Interrupting conversations, being nose etc...Now I know it wasn't just me. I can't tell you how many times I was tempted to call the owner and complain. Now I'm really disgusted about the tip thing because I can't rememeber how many times I have paid with my card. All this makes me want to go over there and curse her ass out!! I don't care how fab the food is.

I've been going here for years and its one of my top sushi spots too. I was kinda shocked by this thing about being overcharged so I ordered delivery two times to go, and left exactly 10%. I checked my online statements and they were exactly what I authorized. So much for that.

All said and done, the fish is all kinds of good and some days is absolutely amazing. The owner is really nice and I like the so called pushy lady. I've never really thought of her as being pushy until I came across this thread. She's just got alot of character. And yeah,, get the chirachi with all the little funky japanese pickles and onions and tons o seasoning on the rice.. Awesome!

delivery is decent here. some menu items (like the yakisoba) needs some work through. Better than the nearby wasabi. Although i believe theres another wasabi on bedford and north 4.

i think you can just never know what to expect from this restaurant. luckily, that crazy lady loves me and my boyfriend, she always brings us free stuff and is chatty and nice. last time we went she charged us 14 bucks for 2 appetizers, 4 beers, and like 4 different rolls.

I agree with you, Lincoln. I have a business on Bedford and have been ordering delivery from this restaurant since I opened. While they can be a little on the slow side, the fish is always fresh and very generously cut. The Chirashi Sushi is pretty darn good...complete with Japanese pickles and rice seasoning. Being Asian, I can't even bear to go to Wasabi or worse, Samurai. I find the quantity and quality severely lacking at both places.

So, I will agree with everyone as far as the pushy waitress goes, she is a bit rude. But if you all enjoy this place so much then why don't you just complain about her to the owner. The more people that complain the better. I have been going to this place from the first day it opened and I have never been overcharged. And I check religiously. I enjoy all of their food. Their fish is much fresher than that of Wasabi and it is always very clean and doesn't smell. You cannot fault the restaurant, the owner and the food for one lousy waitress. After all, she isn't even Japanese.

that's not the point, you dummy. the point is that this lady keeps stealing from customers. most people can take a rude waitress, but you've got to be an idiot to keep coming back if the restaurant is stealing from you. (unless your independently rich and don't care). If being a NYer means being a sucker, I don't want to be one.

I love the waitress!

She's not rude, she's maybe a bit overly helpful – like a Jewish mother. She gives me free sake when I order a big beer, she remembers my favorite dishes (okay, she often almost orders them for me before I've made up my mind – but she's usually correct!).

You guys are a bunch of pansies!

You call yourself New Yorkers?

Go to Boston if you want "proper" service or L.A. if you want "friendly" service.

This place kicks Wasabi's butt, and the rude waitress justs adds to its charm. Very cozy (sometimes empty) and clean restaurant with good sushi. God forbid you'd order delivery here though. Generally delivery takes 45 minutes to an hour and I don't live that far away from the place. Once I called and the mean lady told me "We're crazy busy. Crazy like hell. You just keep calling." Then my food arrived. That place does some most of its business through takeout orders, and you're not crazy to wait because it's darn good sushi.

We kind of like that waitress. She's sort of like a floor show. A bit brusque at times, and she overdoes it with the "sweetie" business, but she does get the food to the table quickly. And what food it is! Certainly the best sushi and rolls in our neighborhood and the takeout portions of such items as donburi are generous.
Its awkward location means there is never, ever a wait for a table, even on Saturday night. But that's no reflection on the food, which is superior.

My experience was similar...They served me fish when I specified many times in advance that I could not eat fish. That one lady was indeed VERY RUDE. Even the manager was kind of a jerk. the food is good BUT ITS NOT WORTH IT, especially in a 'hood with a million restaurants that serve Japanese-type food.

there are probably enough comments on here about the insane hostess/waitress to get the point across, but i'd like to point out that insanity is not her only trait. she is also randomly overly helpful. like, my friend dropped a chopstick, and i swear that before it even touched the ground she had presented a new one like it was a dandelion she'd just picked for her. she also would clear a plate as soon as we finished using it, as if rumpelstiltskin is in the kitchen and immediately transforms used dishes into gold for her. the food is fine but definitely not worth putting yourself in the way of a woman who would probably stab you with a chopstick and then give you a tourniquet for the wound a nanosecond later.

is there a japanese rest. that isn't chinese run?
where the japanese at!!!???
fuck all this china shit! that bitch is crazy.
that menu reminds me of a morbidly obese couple in a 69...
F'n gross!

I used to order from here a lot. (Very fast delivery, and they gave us a bottle of sake at Christmastime!!) The sushi is decent (occasionally great), but the other food on the menu is GROSS. I once ordered "spicy house soup" (or something like that) and it had not been mixed correctly, so there were large, clear brown GLOBS all floating around in it. And then once recently I ordered the yakisoba, and someone forgot to season it (it was just oily with no flavor). Never had a billing problem, never had a hard time with rude staff.

I'm sorry to hear about these negative experiences... My friends and I go here all the time, and we love the "rude waitress!" I haven't scrutinized my bank statements, and that sucks if they really were marking up your bills, but we actually find that waitress charming, and she's never pushed any particular form of payment. The closest she's come to rude is trying to rush us through dinner so they could close shop at night, and even then she was doing it with jokes and light-heartedness. I've had nothing but great experiences here.

omg I thought I was the only one... I absolutely love their rolls, but that one waitress who is ALWAYS there is BEYOND RUDE (she is the oldest one of the bunch, the others are all young girls). I do love their food but she is really making me not want to go there anymore!

oh my god. that is horrible! I gave up on this place because of the INSANELY rude woman who you were talking about. they also would charge me like 2 bucks to add some measly scallions to a roll. must unfriendly place EVER

Beware of this restaurant!
i live on the same block as Sapporo, and go there at least once a week. My roomates and boyfriend go there all the time as well. We all like it better than the nearby Wasabi.
However, a couple of months ago, I called in a take out order. When i picked it up, i gave a 10% tip. Not necessary , but since i go there all the time...
the next day i was looking at my bank statement on-line and noticed my charge was for $2 more than what i left. I wondered if this was a mere mistake..or if it was done on purpose by the really pushy woman who works there (and for those of you have been there, you will know exactly who i am talking about!).
I discussed this with friends in the neighboorhood and didnt know what to make of it. I did not go through the trouble of disputing the charge with my bank...as i thought the $2 wasnt worth it.
now, my boyfriend recently mentioned that he noticed his charge coming through at a higher amount than what the bill was. Again, as if the waitress was altering the tip section to include a 20% tip on a take out order. He wasnt positive, but strongly suspected it. he also told me that the last 2 times he has been there, the pushy waitress keeps saying "you pay with credit card! you pay with credit card!" she seems angered when he pays with cash, AND demanded that her fellow waitress give him his change out of her tips!
Last night we ordered take out there once again. (we do like the food). I told my friend "Let's test this out. I am going to pay with my debit card and see what happens" . I picked up my order. I was told by the waitress "you must pay with credit card". I willingly did, and my bill was $30.32. I signed the receipt and that was the amount I signed for.
Naturally, today i checked my bank account. guess what?? the charge came through for $36.42.
The waitress added on 20%.
I am disputing the charge with my credit card...and will not return. I suggest anyone who is reading does not go.
I understand the $6 is not a big deal...but the fact that they are essentially stealing from me and i am sure others, is a big deal. Especially when we have been 'regulars' there for some time.
