From Village Voice
"Thais have been springing up over the last five years in W'burg, Greenpoint, and Carroll Gardens, offering a take on the cuisine that, while good, is blander than Queens Thais. Best is Tai Thai, located right in the 'Burg tenderloin, offering tangy salads and coconut-laced curries a cut above the rest. Favorite dish: duck with chile sauce."
From New York Magazine:
"Getting to Thai Cafe if you live anywhere but Brooklyn is an adventure. It requires at least two subway lines and either jumping on the elusive G line or a mile-long walk through the predominantly Polish neighborhood of Greenpoint. After you pass endless Polish restaurants, you'll come across the warmly-lit space, where a team of mostly Thai women whip up tasty, spicy dishes from a semi-open kitchen. The prices are so cheap you wonder if they know or care about inflation. You're also inclined to try everything on the extensive menu, and if you can read the specials on the fading chalkboard, there are some hidden jewels. They do justice to oft-maligned pad Thai, make a clean green papaya salad and ginger chicken, and serve up steaming bowls of curry noodles with shrimp. Service is so friendly it's almost sisterly (or motherly, depending on your server). Paintings hang on the walls, top twenty hits play on the stereo, and the casual crowd make this spot worth a return trip. —Noria Morales (Recommended Dishes: Green papaya salad; Steamed dumplings; Pad Thai; Beef in coconut curry.)"

I've avoided this Thai restaurant since it first opened til tonight...I was hungry and it was on the way home, so I stopped in for some take-out. I ordered a green curry with beef. I waited awhile for my order and when I got home and tasted the beef, I was so pissed...it was so tough and completely unchewable...When I called in to let them know how dissatisfied I was, all I got was a sorry. First and last time there!

never ever ever again.. went here a few times when i first moved here a year ago, and then gradually become so unneerved by the terrible, aloof 'service' that i decided to never go back.. yesterday a friend from out of town wanted to meet there and i relented. my friend was already eating when i arrived. the waitress came over to fill her water a few times but never, ever acknowledged me. i sat there for 20 minutes and the waitress never offered to take my order, never offered me water, nothing. after 5 minutes of being ignored i decided i really didn't want to give them my money anyway; after that it became a game to see how long i could sit there without being acknowledged--i finally left. screw this place, as a previous poster said, go to khoa sarn instead.

The worst dinning experience i have had in a long time, topped off with dry overcooked food. I would not suggest this restaurant to anyone who has any taste. PERIOD.

maybe im not being paid to write this but, i ordered a take out once and i was so dissapointed. not only did i spend 11 dolalrs for an entree and an appetizer (which btw, is not cheap, cheap is at least 9 for an entree and appeteizer) but the food was so, how can i say it, WHACK. i ordered a pad cee eew which was just "ew" and the chicken dumpling, first of all, dryer than vegas, second of all the sauce, should not be eaten with the dumpling, its jsut not a good mix of flavors. i now hear that their prices have gone up, i sure hope the quality of the food has but i am never going back there. one time was enough.

I love this resturant. It's cheap and has yummy food.

We used to go there at least one a week, enduring *bad service from the surly hipster waitresses (and thier utter refusal to make totally reasonable substitutions) because the food was so good and cheap, but since the menu has changed it is just not worth it anymore.

The food is mediocre, the prices are bad, and the service has gotton so much worse I actually left without ordering last weekend. If they feel that even in an empty restaurent they don't need my business bad enough to aknowledge me then I don't need to be there. I went to East 66 next store, had the chicken in basil sauce and didn't mis Thai Tai's crap music, service or food one bit.

*The one dude who works there is charming and efficant, unlike the girls, who are just consistantly chock-full-o-'tude.

You guy, Tai Thai is the best food for you lunch and dinner. I never change the others restaurant. That's it.

I was a big fan if Thai Thai BUT lately the employees are surly and the service is non-existent. The last two times I visited my meal was practically thrown and me and we had to do a lot of hand-waving and sign language to get our "waitress" attention.

I went to tai thai for dinner on monday (holiday),and i fell in love with the food and the service. there's busy but the service was great, friendly and the wait time not too long.
i think i gave tai thai be a winner of my mine and i will tell all of my friend to go there.
i love it...

I've gone three times and each has gotten steadily worse, to the point that I recommend no one ever going. I went for the cheap dinner, so I wasn't expecting the best Thai of my life. But the bland sub-par food and rude service (cold stares, long waits even though the restaurant was near empty) will ensure that I never go back. They had their chance(s).

Our favorite Thai in Brooklyn---check out the unbelievable lunch specials. They were $4.95 but they added a dollar and it's SO worth it, you get so much food! A spring roll with a huge portion of veggies or chicken in garlic sauce (to die!), chili peanut sauce or pad thai, plus millions of other choices. ((((I'm sure it's good for dinner, too,but we always get lunch---we go at least once a week!))))

The worst Thai restaurant in NYC, by far! I was tricked, I thought Brooklyn had the best Thai food. Planet Thai and Sea are right around the corner, don't eat here! Ordered the pad thai shrimp, and som tom. One bite of the som tom and I sent it back. They gave me a hard time, what was my reason? It was the worst som tom I ever had, and I've been to Thailand about 7 times. I replaced it with the fish cakes, or should I call it fish quarters.. as that is the size they come in, teeney bites, come on now, for $4 bucks they should be edible sizes. Then the Pad Thai, it gets worst and worst. It was unedible, soggy, full of lemon.. Lemon, lemon, lemon, I had to force myself to eat all of it. It was terrible. Service was bad with attitude, the check was $12, and they refused to let me pay my credit card, I had to go to the ATM as I refused to give them $15 (the minimum for credit card charges). So tempted to just make a run for it, but I didn't.. Too bad.. Ridiculously bad food, don't go there. It might look cute from the outside, but its the worst thai food - EVER!!!!

Not for human consumption. We ordered basics and it was terrible. The sticky rice was stale and had a weird smell. And that goes for the rest.

Cheapest and best lunch specials....&4.95 for a Spring roll plus copious amounts of curries, pad thai or my husband's fave, chicken with garlic sauce. Great food, great bargain.

Try the Peanut Noodles. Perfect!
And the service is incredibly friendly.

While popular and cheap, the food simply okay. But then I wasn't expecting miracles for a 5.50$ lunch special. However, the food is a bad joke compared to Khao Sarn.
