NEW YORK MAG SAYS: "Getting to Thai Cafe if you live anywhere but Brooklyn is an adventure. It requires at least two subway lines and either jumping on the elusive G line or a mile-long walk through the predominantly Polish neighborhood of Greenpoint. After you pass endless Polish restaurants, you’ll come across the warmly-lit space, where a team of mostly Thai women whip up tasty, spicy dishes from a semi-open kitchen. The prices are so cheap you wonder if they know or care about inflation. You’re also inclined to try everything on the extensive menu, and there are some hidden jewels among the specials. They do justice to oft-maligned pad Thai, make a clean green papaya salad and ginger chicken, and serve up steaming bowls of curry noodles with shrimp. Service is so friendly it's almost sisterly (or motherly, depending on your server). Paintings hang on the walls, top twenty hits play on the stereo, and the casual crowd make this spot worth a return trip. Recommended Dishes: Green papaya salad, $2.95; steamed dumplings, $3.95; pad Thai, $5.95-$6.95; beef in coconut curry, $6.50."

I've been going to this place for a long time -- like 10 years. It became a family favorite -- the place to bring my parents etc when in town. It did seem to go down hill for a little while, but now I am happy to say that it is back and better than ever. I've eaten there three times in the last week. Squid Pad thai was incredible. Green Curry with Jumbo shrimp and crunchy noodles is my favorite. They've got a new menu with some interesting stuff on it.

i was so exicited when they reopened after renovations. unfort. it was a horrific dining experience. it was me and two friends and my dad.... first they brought 2 main dishes out. (pad thai- drenched in rice vinegar and a bland, but fresh shrimp dish). about 5 minutes later, my dads other bland shrimp dish arrived. after about 20 minutes and my meal still hadnt arrived, i inquired and was pretty much ignored. when my mango duck did finally arrive -20 mins after the first two dishes- it was quite good, but hardly worth it the pain in the ass and asking and waiting. to top it off, when the bill came, it was added incorrectly (to their favor) and after correcting that we were over charged 5 bux for our wine and had to have them adjust the bill AGAIN. who knows, but i did sort of wonder if they were trying to overcharge and hope we didnt notice. it was weird. it just all around sucked as a nice dinner out. i was very disappointed and will DEF not go back anytime soon.

Beware of the chicken/coconut milk/mushroom soup! I made the mistake of eating it the day before Thanksgiving, and needless to say, I was down for the count on Thanksgiving day. Desperate for human contact and gingerale to cure the stomach pain, I consulted my neighbor who informed me that 2 other people had just revealed to her that Thai Cafe was the source of their sickness.
I've eaten at this place millions of times because it's generally tasty, but now begins the hiatus.

I've been there twice and I really don't know why it's so popular. The whole joint reeks of toilet and there are no lunch specials, plus the food is only mediocre. For my money,I I'd go a few blocks norht to OTT--they have a professional Thai chef and the food is sublime, plus it's reasonably priced.

I think this place rivals Khao san in the yummiest thai. unfort. it's so far away (for me) and they dont deliver. their tofu stringbean may be the best ever though. they have amazing specials as well. very good. forget about Sea and planet thai.
