GRIDSKIPPER SAYS: Don't blink, or you'll miss Yola's Cafe. This Mexican hole in the wall, located a few steps below a busy stretch of Metropolitan Avenue in second-stop Williamsburg, Brooklyn, isn't much to look at, but the food is so good that it's rapidly becoming one of my favorite restaurants in New York. I've always been a fan of their big beefy burritos, but lately I've been working through their recurring daily specials, all of which impress. Corn shuck-wrapped tamales come stuffed with tangy chicken or sublime adobo pork. Fish tacos, each with a perfectly flaky flounder filet swaddled with salad and guacamole in two flour tortillas, could easily be served at a fancier restaurant at twice the price. Yola's is mostly a take-out and delivery place, but there are two tiny tables as well as four revolving bar stools set against a six-inch-wide counter. To kill the seven or so minutes it takes for your order to be ready, go to the bodega next door for a $3 quart of Tecate (last cooler on the left, bottom shelf), pound a tequila shot across the street at the Subway Bar, or just enjoy the hilarious Spanish-language soap operas on the TV.

love love love yola's. i don't recommend delivery tho, seriously, an hour and a half. BUT it's worth the walk to go eat there so long as you get one of the 3 tables outside. you'll want the walk afterwards anyway after yourself with the carnitas tacos which are SUBLIME.

Food is ok but delivery service is terrible! Both times i ordered delivery took over an hour when the person who too the order said it would be under 1/2 hour.

Pretty mediocre food, but consistent. Good if I want something late at night. I tend to end up with a bellyache though.

The tamales on Sunday are great... especially the chicken. If you want a veggie burrito, go down to El Loco or something.

the beef milanesa torta is great.
crusty bread larger than the usual bolillo.
worth the 6 bux.
p.s. just give up on the veggie burrito crap.
it's Mexican for crists sake!
If you want a veggie burito go to one of those tex-mex/mission burrito(sic)places or order chile rellenos(stuffed with cheese) from a sit down Mex place.
If you are vegan you are s.o.l. but I'll whip you something up.
gimme a buzz.

I love Yola! The chips and salsa are homemade everyday, yes, even the chips. Hot to order every time. I stop and get them on my way home multiple times a week. They're only $2, so it's great! The people that work there are really nice too, they're teaching me to order in spanish.

Their food is pretty good, most of the time. Sometimes it is not. It does take forever and sometimes the wait is worth it, and sometimes it is not. This place is hit or miss, but there aren't too many choices around here for mexican take out.
By the way. Make sure you check your order before you leave. On several occasions I have not and have gotten ripped off.

Great food, fast delivery, reasonable price. Alot better than other Mexican food I've had inthe neighborhood.

wow - literally the worst burrito i've ever had. terrible. tasteless, low-grade ingredients.

Yuck. The delivery was superfast, but the food was awful. I got the veggie burrito. It was huge but made with all that cheap, lard-based stuff and was easily the worst I've ever had - and I've had a lot of bad mexican. Also, the menu prices listed here are out of date, so I paid $7.50 for a burrito when I would have done better to pick one up at a convenient store and microwave it. I don't know what these other reviews are talking about "fresh" and "yummy," maybe I hit them on an off day, but it's not the kind of mistake I could walk into a second time.

i got a taco once, it was looking at me when it arrived in my hands....we were going to make love. and then my drunken hands let go. its was the saddest day ever.
...I once had a taco from yola's.

Not too bad -- delivery can be a pretty slow, and of course be careful of the fact that they don't speak English terribly well. Takeout: it seems to take them about 10 minutes to make a simple burrito, so my advice is to call ahead, then pick it up if you're close.
PS: "Joe" above sure looks like a shill for this place. "Grate timing" indeed.

this has got to be one of the best mexicans restaurant's I've been in, the best tamles on sundays... and very good delivery, I'm about 20 block's from the restaurant, my food gets here in grate timing... I would recommend it to anyone...

I love the food ... they deliver my food fast, Quick is the right word for it, and I am 20 blocks away.
I will recommend it to any one, as a matter-of-fact I will order some after checking my E-mail's

Sloooooow. They said my delivery would arrive in 1/2 hour. It took 1 1/2 hours for them to deliver my food a mere eight blocks. I thought it was a fluke so I gave them another chance. It happened again. Food is fine, but it's not worth the wait.

fresh? yummy? how bout overpriced? the food portion is proportional to the size of the place. plus, it doesn't taste good.
