Stranger Than Fiction series @ IFC
The IFC Center’s “Stranger Than Fiction” documentary series continues tonight with On Coal River, a look at the effects one coal mining company has had on the town it infiltrated. Post-screening, the filmmakers will discuss the polluted playgrounds and blasted mountain tops that pitted the residents of Coal River Valley against the school board, local government and Big Coal itself.
If social activism’s not your thing, the weeks to come bring award winning films and filmmaker Q & As on a New Orleans madam, a Sierra Leone war criminal, Marlene Dietrich and more.
