Sigh. Outdoor hangs are starting to get chillier. Locals are fervently taking what brief escapes from the city they can attempt. And new transplants are moving in and friends are moving on (as they do in this transient New York life). So it’s only natural that the summer calendar is starting to look a little sparse. Despite the winding down of free concerts and festivals, the boroughs are always thriving.
Here are picks for some events you can hit up as summer slowly fades:
It’s been almost a week since Amy Winehouse passed (pouring one out in her honor). So why not pay your respects tonight at the Amy Winehouse Tribute by doing what she liked best – partying? Check out the details below on this event and more:
And, yeah, this post is a bit late. But let’s be serious. Stay home. It’s damn fucking gross out there.
But after you cool down, rest, hydrate, watch the entire first season of Game of Thrones (so awesome), and hang with your hobo friends camping out on your floor to mooch the A/C, venture out this weekend. Cuz the hydrants are a-flowin’ through Brooklyn and our borough is poppin’ hard!
Check out super fun BK Saturday along with the rest of our picks for the coming week:
A few weeks ago, “inter-borough dating” was a mini-trend among the New York blogosphere after How About We surveyed locals if they would dare bridge and tunnel it for love. Not surprising that, in a city of sexy things walking round every corner, a “yes” was predicated on level of hotness. Oh New Yorkers, you so shallow.
But while some may be crossing the East River for romance, others have realized the single best advantage of doing the walk/bike/train/ferry of shame to true love – having a good time inventory scattered throughout the boroughs. According to Gothamist and The New York Post, ”double-borough dating” allows one to have their cake (Bushwick struggling musician?) and eat it too (Wall Street papi?). Whatevs. No judgment.
Anyways, this week is perfect for showing your special someones how you kinda care (but not enough to be exclusive or faithful or anything):
As we all know, July is the for reals start to the summer season with its sudden spike in free concerts, outdoor movies and rooftop parties. But truly it isn’t summer without a Jelly Pool Party, right?
Well, JellyNYC has forsaken its old Williamsburg stomping grounds and is resurrecting the slip n’ slide down in the Rockaways. The 6-series party kicks off this Saturday, July 9. And even though it is now set in this far away Brooklyn land, you can catch a roundtrip party bus for $20 from Manhattan and Brooklyn. Or a better suggestion: bike your bikini bodies down to add mobile access to nearby Fort Tilden beach. This back and forth will undoubtedly tire even the best of us, so luckily the last three shows (August 20, September 3 and September 10) will feature urban campgrounds for us to sleep away our hangovers before the trek home. Um. Awesome.

Hey guys! We’re still free from colonial power. Sorry US-installed puppet regimes and imperialist satellites we call “territories.”
This is awkward.
ANYWAYS, next weekend is our favorite (and only) summer holiday – the Fourth of July. So here are some picks on where you should shake that sexy freedom all week long.
Featured pick is a four-day electro dance party because dance parties are so United States right now: Governors Island Dance.Here.Now Festival: July 1 to July 4
Featuring Paul Van Dyk / Fat Boy Slim / and more
Ticket prices vary $36 to $350
And here are more picks for this week:
This week, New York celebrates all you hotties of any sexual / gender / age / ethnic / time period / transportation / non-categorical orientation. So go out there and exercise those fundamental freedoms!
How About We – the dating site where you choose potential love based on individual purchasing power – is asking New Yorkers if they would date outside their borough. Personally, I’m out if I have to wait for the G(host) train. The G takes FOREVER.
But if you’re into this whole inter-borough dating thing and find yourself in one of those pretty places where grown-ups live in brownstones and wear non-skinny jeans, maybe some of these event picks will increase your chances of scoring (aw, yeah):
