This Weekend: Hipster Dog Show In Greenpoint

042513hipsterdogVia

The fashion show/contest is part of a bigger event called Bark For Life, “a noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer.” There will also be face painting and magic shows, which were sort of cool like five years ago.
It all goes down at Monsignor McGolrick Park (at the intersection of Russell and Nassau Avenues), with the dog show competition starting at 10 a.m. For a small donation, you can register your dog to “strut the doggie runway” and compete for prizes for Most Fashionable, Best Celebrity Look Alike, Best Haircut, Best Trick, and Hippest (Dog that Looks Most Like a Hipster).

Try to find yourself in the LCD Soundsystem trailer

It’s like the 2012 Where’s Waldo calendar where young, hip New Yorkers try to find themselves in the crowd in this trailer for LCD Soundsystem’s Shut Up and Play The Hits documentary about the band’s end. I wasn’t there, so instead of looking for myself and friends, I am just looking at James Murphy’s cute dog. So there’s something for everyone.

Just to follow up on this once-terrible piece of news, the dog that woman tweaking out on drugs had bodyslammed into the pavement at North 7th and Driggs is doing OK at a vet hospital hanging out with stuffed animals and the cop who saved his life. The Mayor’s Alliance is fronting his bill, so if you’d like to help pay please consider a donation here.
