Period-Themed Gay Night At Bushwick’s Bizarre Bar

Via Bushwick Daily

Have you heard of Bizarre, the new absinthe bar located off of the Myrtle-Broadway JMZ stop? Of course you have! It’s the neighborhood’s newest, stylish space complete with huge windows, a projector playing scenes from silent movies, and quaint antique decor. Some might even say it’s the Cat’s Meow. Luckily, the management and hostess Merry Cherrie have noticed the buzz and have begun a new, monthly queerparty named just that.

Cat’s Meow occurs one Saturday a month, and queers and allies from all over Brooklyn can enjoy the beats of DJ David John Sokolowski, the humor and grace of Merrie Cherrie, and performances by performance artists, dancers, and drag queens of all kinds. The debut Cat’s Meow occurred this past Saturday, March 9, 2013, and featured a 1920’s to 1940’s period theme.

More information about Bizarre Bar in our listings.

We’re hungry already:

The Best Wings In Brooklyn Competition is an annual event where restaurants, bars, and other vendors throughout the borough of Brooklyn showcase their wares before a panel of judges – and hundreds of Brooklynites – in a quest for the coveted title of The Best Wings In Brooklyn!

This yearly competition brings people from all corners of Brooklyn together to feast on, vote on, and just out-and-out celebrate one of man’s greatest creations – WINGS!!!

Wings, wings, and more wings!!! How do YOU like ‘em???

THE BEST WINGS IN BROOKLYN COMPETITION was originated at, and is hosted by, Red Star, located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. While some may attempt to imitate or duplicate, rest assured there is only one true “Best Wings In Brooklyn Competition,” and it’s right here, each and every February!

If you’re a purveyor of wings or if you’re a wing aficionado… this is your Super Bowl, folks!!!

This Friday: Russian Party – Dance Your Ass Off To 80s and 90s Soviet Hits

Best of all, you don’t have to be Russian to enjoy:

Droves of Soviet ex-pats lamenting the fall of the mighty Soviet Union (with real tears!), staring blankly at a mixed American crowd, all dancing to exclusively Russian 80s and 90s disco and rock tracks, everyone spinning, spinning closer to proletariat utopia. Premium.

Hopefully, someone will be spinning this classic:

This Week’s Art Crawl: Skin, Spock, Sounds, Suburbs

First, a compulsory “Oh right, it’s Armory Week” note: Oh right, it’s Armory Week. Keep it local this Saturday, March 9th, ’cause it’s Brooklyn Armory Night and the 11th anniversary of Williamsburg Afterhours. Galleries in Bushwick, Greenpoint, and Williamsburg will be open until 10pm with participating bars/restaurants; thanks to WAGMAG and Pernod, there’s an app to make you a well-informed lushexcursionist.

Second: Here’s a list of some other picks, much shorter and sweeter than a 12-hour filibuster.

Yours truly,
@kaleidofox

Rachel de Joode: “The Hole and the Lump” at Interstate Projects

I know nothing about clay except for the fact that it makes me think of Patrick Swayze, shirtless, in Ghost. Uncouth? Maybe. Rachel de Joode, a Berlin-based artist and founder of META Magazine, has thought about it differently after talking to a Mexican shaman about the Mayan belief that human bodies came from clay. With this in mind, “The Hole and the Lump” is corporeal in more ways than one. Through March 17.
