The Crif Dog Classic is a bit of a backyard roast for Takeru Kobayashi, the Japanese competitive eater who had a falling out with the Coney Island contest after six consecutive victories. In addition to a competition between Kobayashi and nine of North America’s most talented eaters, the afternoon features celebrity guests and live music from FOTP, the Electric Mess, Andy Suzuki & the Method, and our favorite rabble-rousing band from Brooklyn, the Wild Yaks. Sunday afternoon the first Zombie Dash occurred on the industrial streets of Greenpoint. This informal 2.5 mile race originally started as an idea between friends and quickly evolved into a large event with about 150 participating runners. You could sign up as a human or as a zombie. These were not the slow moving zombies of years past but super fast and in shape runner zombies who definitely kept the participants on their toes. Keep your ears open for a more formal, sponsored zombie dash around Halloween.
