Summer Jams

After jamming out in my corporate office to Al Lover — the free Woodsist remix album posted here yesterday on FREEwilly, I decided to post a few free mixes for the summer, in case your iTunes is feeling empty. Forget the ‘mp3 drought of 2010,’ and check this stuff out.

The always consistent blog Stadiums and Shrines put this mix out in February, and it is littered with psychedelic, summery gems, by bands such as Expensive Looks (who killed it with Pocahaunted and Sleep ∞ Over at Glasslands this past weekend) and Coyote Clean Up — whose incredible FREE record Double Trouble Doo Doo Bubble can be found at ihadanaccidentrecords (zip file).

If you dig tropical or ambient jams, you’ll definitely enjoy the superbly crafted, 12 minute album Land Huxt from London’s Arch M, given away for free at his site.

And finally, if the disco bug has caught you of late, as it has so many ’round these parts, you may enjoy this new mix from Brooklyn’s own Treasure Fingers.

Now throw on those jorts and get outside.

Al Lover – Woodsist Remixed (Free Download)

Alex Gundlach made a fantastic one-track remix album of some of his favorite songs by bands released on Woodsist. Download it for free HERE.

He writes:

This is a project I threw together over the last few weeks. Woodsist is probably one of my favorite labels out right now. Everything they put out is at least interesting, if now really f’ing good. Most of the records remind me of some weird psychedelic shit from the sixties I’d love to sample, with a post-punk aesthetics added for extra awesomeness. Anyhow, I like the music so much I decided to remix some of my favorite tracks from a few of the releases on the label. They are more beats using small parts of the songs than remixes, but remixes sounds cooler. So fuck it, it’s a remix album. Super low-fi, off-kilter, distortion heavy, weirdo beats. This is definitely an experimental approach to beat making for me.

Track list:

The Fresh & Onlys – What Goes in Circles

Ganglians – 100 years

Kurt Vile – Breathing Out

The Art Museums – So Your Baby Doesn’t Love You Any More

Woods – Born to Lose

The Mayfair Set – Three of me

Moon Duo – In The Trees

Meneguar – The Morning, The night

Fergus & Geronimo – Last Letter

Meth Teeth – I Was Wrong

Wavves – Vermin

Real Estate – Black Lake

Woods – Til the Sun Rips

Sali: "Toldya" (Featuring M.I.A.)

Here’s a great new track from Sali featuring a sample from M.I.A. Speaking of M.I.A., Christ was that Times profile brutal. If you’re one of the few people on the planet who missed it (and the shitstorm that followed) it’s definitely worth checking out.
