Sleigh Bells – “Comeback Kid”

Last.Fm

Sleigh Bells are back with another teaser from their second LP, Reign Of Terror. This single is titled “Comeback Kid” and it is all we could possibly want from the banging duo. In this track, digital ringing is followed by noisy clashes of electric guitars to the maximum amp. Then, Alexis Krauss sets the song in sparks with her famous layering of incredible high notes. “Comeback Kid” is undeniably loud and playful. The music goes well with the artwork of flaming shrubs. If you forgot, Reign Of Terror will be released February, 21st via Mom + Pop.

Check out this Sleigh Bells commercial

The latest in indie bands being used for in ads for dumb-looking things. MTV used Sleigh Bells “Kids” in an ad for it’s gross-looking new show “Skins.”

Sleigh Bells Rock Webster Studio

“Who knew it was possible to crowd surf under 10 foot ceilings?” Sleigh Bells frontwoman Alexis Krauss was full of surprises as she and guitarist Derek Miller rocked a sold-out show at the intimate – and low-ceilinged – Webster Studio Monday night. Krauss finished out a heart-pumping, sweat-soaked set as she leapt into the 300-person crowd of thronging, sweat-soaked hipsters midway through the band’s hit song, “Treats.”

It was the final thrill in a short but heart-pumping set from the much buzzed-about Brooklyn-based noise pop band, which became an indie darling practically overnight after the release of their first album, Treats, last May.

“This next song is a dance song, so I need everyone to fucking dance!” Krauss howled as she launched into the first chords of “Tell ‘Em.” Easier said than done in the shoulder-to-shoulder sprawl, but the gleefully disheveled crowd didn’t seem to mind getting a little scuzzier.

Krauss was by turns exuberantly energetic and erotic as she powered through hits including “A/B Machines,” “Rill Rill,” and Kids.”

“You guys hot?” she purred before showering the crowd with the contents of her water bottle. Krauss’ high-octane vocals and Miller’s snarling, stomping guitar provided the power for a gritty, raw, and unapologetically heavy show.

For a newcomer like Sleigh Bells, the band’s only shortcoming is a lack of material. Last night’s set only lasted around 40 minutes – which is understandable, considering that their debut album is only 33 minutes long. “We wish we could play more, but that’s all we got!” a halfway apologetic Krauss told the crowd.

Sleigh Bells did thrill the concert-goers with one new song – see it (and the rest of the performance) streaming here at MTV.com starting later today.

Music Video: Sleigh Bells "Infinity Guitars"

Alexis and Derek are totally the cool kids from your high school. If there was any question before, clearly their Ray Bans and jean jackets in this video for “Infinity Guitars” proves it. Plus burning guitars and fog machines and scary dogs and cheerleaders. This was what your high school years looked like, right?

Watch it over at NME. Then go smoke cigarettes in the bathroom.

Jay Bells: Surprisingly Not Awful

Did anyone get the feeling early this summer that everyone else wearing headphones on the L train was listening to the Sleigh Bells record? From the cute girl with the Strand tote bag, to the strung-out dude in the too-short shorts, to the hip mom pushing the stroller. Treats was in everyone’s ears.

So it’s about time someone mashed these guys up with some Jay-Z rhymes! (Apparently people are still into mashups albums?) The Beatles got Grey Albumed by Dangermouse. Radiohead got Jaydioheaded by Max Tannone. And now Sleigh Bells just got Jay Bellsed by DJ O-Face.

Surprisingly, it’s not bad. Although many iTunes libraries have become exhausted from listening to “Tell ‘Em” on repeat, and maybe you’re still on a Jay-Z hiatus to recover from 2009′s ubiquitous “Empire State of Mind,” this is a nice change of pace. Jay spits over six of your favorite Treats tracks, sometimes intermingling with Alexis Kraus’s screech-singing. When you’re blasting this on your next commute, you’ll still feel kindred to your fellow travelers, but with a little more swagger.
