Saint Vitus Played Saint Vitus at Saint Vitus

Last night, Saint Vitus (the band) played Saint Vitus (the song) at Saint Vitus (the venue). Check out a 25 minute video edit of the one and a half hour long show below. It includes the songs “Dying Inside”, “Saint Vitus”, “War Is Our Destiny”, “The Bleeding Ground” and “White Stallions”. Clips of openers Weedeater and Sourvein can be found after the jump.

Turbonegro played House of Vans

Last night Turbonegro closed out this year’s free summer show series at House of Vans. With support from Night Birds and Doomriders, the Norwegians brought the house down. Their hour long set basically resembled a greatest hits potpourri with a few songs from the new album in the mix. Below is a video edit that gives you a taste of a little bit of everything. Songs included are “All My Friends Are Dead”, “Back To Dungaree High”, “I Got A Knife”, “Get It On” and “I Got Erection”.

Impressions from Doomriders’ and Night Birds’ sets are after the jump.

Wild Nothing and DIIV played River Rocks

Watch clips of Wild Nothing and DIIV playing River Rocks at Pier 84 last night. This was hands down the longest line I have seen for a (free) show since that infamous 77Boadrum performance in Dumbo back in 2007. Thousands of people. Good times.

NSFW! Tinsel Teeth & Doomsday Student played Death By Audio

Punk meets Art. Rhode Island maniacs Tinsel Teeth and Doomsday Student (ex Arab On Radar) ravished Death by Audio on Saturday. Tinsel Teeth are easily amongst the most ‘physical’ live performers out there, while Doomsday Student flat out make your ears explode with their signature No Wave assaults. NSFW video edits of both sets are below.

Trash Talk played 285 Kent with Odd Future

As mentioned in the post below, this show will go down as 2012′s most sweltering event. Even though they do have a new and pretty wicked industrial sized A/C at the warehouse on Kent, condensation started dripping from the ceiling 2 minutes into Trash Talk’s set. Bodies were flying all over the place, swinging from the sprinkler pipes on the ceiling and vanishing in a several hundred people strong mosh pit. It was sheer mayhem and the ruckus was definitely brought to Brooklyn that night. Musically, it wasn’t all that. But hey, what does a room full of explosive energy care about song writing finesse…

Watch Odd Future+Trash Talk playing “Radicals” and “Awake” live at 285 Kent on July 26, 2012.

Thurston Moore+Loren Connors played The Stone

A bit of a belated post, but on July 14 Thurston Moore & Loren Connors played The Stone in Manhattan as part of Spy Fest. Watch about half of the performance below. That day I was convinced, this would qualify for ‘hottest show of the year’. Needless to say, I hadn’t been to the Trash Talk/Odd Future outing at 285 Kent yet.

4Knots Festival happened at South Street Seaport

Despite getting ‘slightly’ interrupted by a fire on Pier 17, last Saturday’s 4Knots Festival ran more or less smoothly. The show was stopped for about 40 minutes, causing set list cuts and delays for the remaining 3 bands on the main stage. At least it wasn’t cancelled altogether as the pier at one point was partially evacuated and the PA system taken down. Be that as it may, the delays in combination with prior obligations made us miss Archers of Loaf’s headlining set. However, we caught Crocodiles and The Drums. Both of which played to a large and very enthusiastic crowd. Videos are below.

7 Seconds played free House of Vans Party

House of Vans continued their 2012 run of free shows last night with a swinging bill of classic hardcore/punk. Next to early 80′s legends 7 Seconds, H2O delivered the goods in a melodic and crowd pleasing fashion. Throughout both band’s sets, the packed out warehouse was full of roving circle- and mosh pits. Even though local openers, Tournament entertained with more of a heavy southern rock feel, they managed to draw the crowd’s attention just the same.
Watch video edits of all three bands below, including 7 Seconds playing their signature line song “Young ‘Til I Die” and the Nena cover, “99 Red balloons”.

More impressions from last night and a full schedule of the remaining free House of Vans parties after the jump…

Codeine played Bell House

New York City slow-core legends Codeine graced the Bell House in Brooklyn last night with a rare reunion show. The hour long set included a collaboration with Stephen Brodsky for the song “Cave-in”. Video of which is below.
