The latest episode of Broad City, a webseries about Abbi & Illana (BFFs exploring life, love and lipstick in The Big Apple), is in McCarren Park. Natch, it’s our duty to share with you. Check it:
We’re still not sure why singer Jamie Stewart was folding his left wrist like that for the entire set, but Xiu Xiu and Deerhoof’s full rendition of Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures was a pretty great way to start this summer’s Pool Parties. “She’s Lost Control” was the highlight (thanks for the video unartig) to a fun day in the sun. We were happy to see that Roberta’s and the Meat Hook were added as vendors. And left utterly perplexed by the fact that people seemed to enjoy the band Why? Why indeed! We’re already looking forward to next week’s lineup.

A reader sent in the below footage of a little situation involving an upset police officer interacting with multiple people on the 8th Avenue L Train platform and a superior officer scolding him as he tries to calm him down.
The tipster writes:
Me and my buddy were attacked in the subway station tonight by an office [sic] Kann from the NYPD bag [sic] # 13225. And we were hoping you guys might know anyone or could get the word out to anyone who was one the 8th Ave L train stop Friday July 9th 2010 around 11:20PM. Any help would be appreciated, for this abuse in power.
We need a little more context before coming to any conclusions. This doesn’t really constitute an “attack,” when compared to others, but it does offer a rare glimpse at how a senior officer acts when a junior cop is a bit out of control.
Kudos to him for keeping his head in the situation.
RJOiii sent in video of Future Islands playing the Silent Barn Saturday night. Here’s Inch of Dust:
He writes:
Future Islands played the Silent Barn in Brooklyn last night. I was there with my camera. This is video of the track “Inch of Dust”. You can’t see it, but the floor was shaking.
Behold, the sweatiest, happiest, most bad-ass show I’ve seen in a Brooklyn DIY venue in a long long time.
Future Islands wrapped up a two-month spring tour last night and have a month off before starting back up in July for a week. Then, they’re off to Europe in September. They released their latest LPIn Evening Air May 4th.
España’s Delorean have been gently rocking our socks off since the Ayrton Senna EP which, considering the band formed back in 2000, seems a little off. Almost a decade of tweaking details, slightly altering the band’s lineup, and what sonically translates to frolicking along a golden hour beach, the band’s pinnacle release is here– Subiza, out in the U.S. on True Panther this coming Tuesday.
If you haven’t been listening to this coastal four-piece, let us introduce you to your summer go-to album. Unfortunately for most of you, Delorean’s New York shows (starting tonight at Piano’s) are SOLD OUT. But for one lucky reader, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Just head on over to our Facebook page for your chance to win a pair of tickets to see Delorean, along with Restless People and MillionYoung at Glasslands this Saturday.
Check out the video for “Stay Close” after the jump…
