That’s right, James Mercer and company (along with Richard Swift, Crystal Skulls’ Yuuki Matthews and Modest Mouse drummer Joe Plummer) will be playing North 12th Street and Kent Ave for, oh, just $45 a pop, plus Ticketmaster processing fees, but what’s that as compared to an evening with Zach Braff’s favorite band of all time? This music will change your life. Again. Just like it did when you were a junior in high school, and you listened to “Kissing The Lipless” on repeat and your AIM screen name referenced New Slang. Whatever, we’re in. Tickets go on sale at noon on Friday; BYOB emotions.
From the established craft brewers to the mid-majors and up-and comers, the diversity and creativity of the Craft and Specialty Brewing Community has proven to be limitless. “The Catskills is the new Williamsburg. There, I said it! There is more artisanal pork being butchered there than anywhere else.” — John Flansburgh of the great, They Might Be Giants.
Read the rest of the interview over at Gothamist where Flansburgh discusses the band’s new album “Join Us“, Witch House and the Williamsburg Waterfront –among other things. And, as if we need to remind you, They Might Be Giants will play the Waterfront for free next Friday the 29th with Comedian Eugene Mirman kicking things off.
For now we leave you with TMBG’s first ever music video for the song “Put Your Hand Inside the Puppet head” which was shot at the Williamsburg Waterfront in 1986, presumably before artisanal pork was being butchered in its vicinity.
Burned Green – a site listing Brooklyn volunteering opportunities – and Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn are asking folks to spare one hour cleaning up the streets of the Burg in exchange for free admission to the 2011 Williamsburg Waterfront Concert Series. Select volunteers will be split into groups of four and provided with gloves, trash bags and trash grabbers to clean up North 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th streets between Kent and Bedford Avenue.
Volunteers can choose to:
1) Watch the show(s) of your choice and do an hour of cleaning beginning at 9:45pm ; OR
2) Clean up after any one concert in exchange to see a future show(s) of your choice.
Space is limited. So to be considered for this in-demand opportunity, email info@burnedgreen.com with the subject line “Williamsburg Waterfront Volunteer” and the following information:

Hey, maybe if you get those streets sparkly, we can have those Jelly concerts again. Oh to dream.
This weekend, the Brooklyn Flea will make its Williamsburg debut. That’s 120 vendors taking over the Williamsburg waterfront offering their wares of vintage-chic clothing, cool antique things and delicious foodstuffs. It will still remain in the popular Fort Green location on Saturdays, but Sundays through the summer will be at the East River park.
I’m sure every vendor there is already sick of it, but this is the perfect opportunity to put a bird on it.
Since so many of you have written to find out about tomorrow’s show, YES, it’s still scheduled to go on, despite the impending monsoon. It will only be canceled if there’s thunder & lightning — since neither of which are even remotely twee.
Doors open at 5:30 and set times are as follows:
Teenage Fan Club 7 -745
Belle and Sebastian 8:15 – 9:45
This Friday night, Weezer’s playing the Williamsburg Waterfront with AWOLNATION and Rival School. It’s gonna be nice out! Like, 93 degrees and sunny nice. But here’s the thing: tickets are $54.
Luckily for you guys, some reps from AWOLNATION hit us up and are offering a pair of tickets for our readers.
We’re still not sure why singer Jamie Stewart was folding his left wrist like that for the entire set, but Xiu Xiu and Deerhoof’s full rendition of Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures was a pretty great way to start this summer’s Pool Parties. “She’s Lost Control” was the highlight (thanks for the video unartig) to a fun day in the sun. We were happy to see that Roberta’s and the Meat Hook were added as vendors. And left utterly perplexed by the fact that people seemed to enjoy the band Why? Why indeed! We’re already looking forward to next week’s lineup.
