The Best In Music 2010

Though we’ll be happy if we never hear the term “chillwave” again, we must say 2010 was another great year for music. It was an eclectic year with amazing releases from new artists like Toro Y Moi and new highlights from longtime favorites like Kanye West and Joanna Newsom. Of course, creating a numbered list of favorites is a daunting and highly subjective task — we’re the first to admit that the order of the releases below could change from week to week depending on our mood — but here’s our best shot at categorizing this year’s most accomplished music.

FREEwilliamsburg’s Favorite Records of 2010

21. Toro y Moi: Causers of This

20. Sun Araw: On Patrol

19. Sufjan Stevens: The Age of Adz

18. Flying Lotus: Cosmogramma

17. Julian Lynch: Mare

16. Wild Nothing: Gemini

15. Tame Impala: Inner Speaker

14. Fang Island: Fang Island

13. LCD Soundsystem: This Is Happening

  1. MK says:

Love seeing Lower Dens recognized. Phenomenal record. No Walkmen, though?

  2. count tea says:

wow, you guys really took some chances with this list, bravo! Way to give me some insight into the year in music i couldn’t find at pitchfork, or pretty much anywhere else with an obligatory end of the year list! Chalk up another daring critique from the least pandering, populist, hipsterchampioning publication on the internet! I don’t even know why I check this site anymore…. was it ever good?

  3. Diana says:

Glad to see Sun Araw on this list…fuck Kanye, though…

  4. Emily says:

wow, you guys are seriously jumping on the kanye bandwagon too? i really don’t get it with that one.

  5. said person from andover unicorn says:

The funny thing about all the indies/alt/hipsters against kanye is that he can out perform you mic to mic on any given stage.

  6. christophe says:

I’m waiting for an explanation for including Kanye. Until then I’ll continue to assume it’s a joke.

  7. CHIEF ROCKER says:

I love that Kanye but you guy’s should check out Big Boi. His album is incredible. Thanks for turning me on to Future Island.
